I like the blue one, I'd sharpen it up & throw it in my tackle box, (plastic handle & "rust free" steel) where it would survive years of fish guts & worm excrement! I have a Whitby pruner in a basic straight, almost completely round hardwood handle - actually a quite appealing look to it. Take Care My Friend! 🙏✌️

Warthogg in retrospect, maybe I was a but hard on these wee working knives. They’re super cheap, almost disposable, so great for real dirty jobs.

I picked up a Whitby Foreign ramsfoot with what looks like ram horn scales (but probably not) in a 2nd hand shop in Grantown on Spey last year! Would be most interested to kno where it originated from?

Interesting side story about Stoker’s Dracula, one of my favorite books. My bet is it could also be made in Pakistan. I’m wondering if Whitney is subcontracting through Linder of Germany that has quite a few knives made in Pakistan. Just thinking out loud. Did the knife come with packaging- (blister pack, clam shell, or box. Some times the place of manufacture hides in the small print.
@slick_slicers4 жыл бұрын
Tobias Gibson I enjoyed Dracula too. I checked the card from the blister-pack it came in and, surprisingly, no clue. There is an address for Whitby & Co in Kendal, Cumbria, England, but I’d be very surprised if it was made there! There is a website at whitbyandco.co.uk. I was a bit hard on these knives, but they’re cheap and can sort of cut things, so maybe I’m being over critical.

@@slick_slicers I was checking out the company online. They've actually got some higher priced knives that look quite nice and actually identify their steel types. including 8Cr, which suggest Chinese made. They also so have two low priced sod buster style knives in yellow and green. Their EDC knives are located here: www.whitbyandco.co.uk/collections/edc-knives

@@slick_slicers, you said: 'I was a bit hard on these knives, but they’re cheap and can sort of cut things, so maybe I’m being over critical. " I'm working on a video about Jim Frost knives. This knife and som eof the other budget knives you showed remind my very much of some of his $1 knives. I think it is fair to say how poorly they cut so long as you add the caveat of how much the knife cost. The question is does someone make a better knife in that price range? You're not comparing it to a Benchmade. You're letting us know what you can get for that price.

Tobias Gibson I’ve just looked at their website. They have over 400 different knives in stock. I can see myself buying a few of them!

Charles Cha it’s the usual two and a half or three quarters inches. These knives were each £5-7, except the CK ‘Real Lambsfoot’ which was £13!

It is hard to muster up much enthusiasm for these plastic handled budget knives. I do like the blue colour at least. Your range of knives is very extensive. Still enjoyed the video.

Steven Shipley when I go to pick a knife to put in my pocket, these are unlikely to jump out at me, unless I want something effectively disposable.

Whitby knives..... The one I have is perfectly serviceable though the fit and finish is a little not so good. They know their niche, tackle box and tool box knives. I would have been very happy with many of the Whitby knives as a kid, and they're perfect for that, cheap and usually fairly durable. Definitely a brand that has its uses.

I had a whitby that I've since parted with, side to side blade play (a lot of it), covers falling off really poor for the £20 it cost me, I think simple is better for them.

Poor mans pocket knife. Its interesting how you can do such a review on such cheaply made plastic knives. My first pocket knife was a whitby in 1977. This design was of far superior quality then, i remember it costing 87 pence as well!!. Sadly they have largly gone downhill and not really considered an enthusiasts knife now. Having said that, you can still pay up to £300 for a hand made one although most collectors look out for old rare ones. Yes these are nocked out in Germany now whilst you can still get one made in Sheffield. Interesting video nonetheless.
