Can you tell me the best way to clean the crinkle finish on this machine?
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. You might try vacuuming with a brush attachment and then a soft toothbrush and dish washing liquid with water. Hand cleaner can also be used. I would not use any solvents that might damage the finish.

Thank you for your response. I also have one other question if you wouldn't mind to answer. I have it threaded and bobbin installed. Bobbin is up but it won't form a stitch. What am I doing wrong.

I thoroughly enjoy my White Rotary Model 77--fully restored via the guidance on your videos. It's my daily go-to machine. Quick question please: I removed the rear circular access plate to resolve a clicking problem. Problem solved. Do you have a trick at re-attaching the rear circular plate? Thank you.

Hello Bill. I no longer have my Rotary which would make it much simpler for me to look at and spark my memory. Take a look at your manual as it might show this. I seem to remember that it had a funny way of reconnecting. Look on the back of it (side that will meet up with the machine) and see if there is a piece that fits into the machine. It also might depend on the position of the take up lever/needle bar so try adjusting those to see if that helps.

Thanks. I accomplished it once before. I'll aim to remember it and gentle fiddle with it. I'm sure that you'll agree that there's an art to exploring these machines and eventually arriving at an understanding of their design. Over time, hopefully, confidence and ease will replace trepidation and apprehension. ;) Thanks again. Your work is awesome.

I recently bought this exact model machine, complete, with accessories, in running order, original owners manual and original certificate of authenticity from White, dated April 1947. I paid $75.00 for it. It’s sat in its carrying case it’s whole life when not in use, even the wiring is in good shape. Do you think I paid too much? The seller was originally asking 100 dollars. He came down to 75.00. It’s literally built like a tank!

Hi Danny. Well, you may have answered your own question since the condition of a machine is a very important factor when considering price. Most of the cheapest plastic junk machines that you can buy new are over $99 so given how nice you describe the condition of your machine, it sounds like $75 may have been a bargain. Only you can judge for yourself, but consider that just as with vintage cars, the better the condition, the less you have to spend on restoring. Yours might need "some" maintenance to bring it back , but yours sounds really nice. Congrats!

I just got a machine just like this one today (was blessed to get it for $25.00). Paint on the bed is a bit messed up. That green krinkle. Can you still get this paint for restoration?
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi. I do not believe that the original paint is available. You might try looking at a hobby shop actual or online. They sell Testors brand paints. If you choose the original solvent based versions (NOT the acrylic), they have a number of colors that might work to get you close or you can try mixing some to get a similar color. Be sure the surface you are touching up is very clean and free of oil/dirt. Note that you should always test a spot for applying any paint to a vintage machine in an inconspicuous spot such as underneath the bed to be sure it is compatible with the original paint. A second possible solution (that also should be tested before fully applied) is to search for colors of nail polish that might be a match.

Vintage Sewing Machine Garage Ok. May try that. Also, it’s missing one of the sleeves for one of the spool spindles. Any ideas?
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 5 жыл бұрын
When you say sleeves, I assume you mean the metal sleeves at the base of the spool pins? I would check the same website for those although you might need to purchase the whole pin.

How is free motion quilting done on a vintage machine such as this one? Most of them are missing the hopping foot and I hate to pass up great machines because of a hard to find foot. Any suggestions?
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Hello. How easy or challenging it is to find a free motion foot will largely depend on the brand of sewing machine. Brands that sold in smaller numbers (aka most of the European brands) will be tougher to located. If you are working with most Singer brand machines, it should be somewhat easier to find a foot for that purpose. You can also find some new and/or reproduction feet that can fit some of the vintage Singers.

Hi, I watched your previous video and have my mothers machine which I am trying to get back into service. Where do you suggest I look for diagrams of the wiring, esp for knee control? I appreciate any help you can give me.

Many of these machines that had the kneel control feature where hard wired into and thru the cabinet!!! I learned this when I restored a Kenmore version of this machine. If you want to get the machine into use quickly, you can purchase a new power cord and foot pedal and use it by unplugging the old cord. If you ultimately prefer to use the knee control, all of the old wiring needs to be inspected and replaced. It can be done, but likely involves taking several parts of the cabinet apart. It is a VERY time intensive project. Whether you take it on depends on how much you want the knee control feature. If for some reason your wiring is easier to get to, you might have an easier time, but just an FYI before you begin.

All sewing machines vary in how they sound. Its based on their design/engineering. To your point, normal oiling of a machine requires just one drop per lubrication point/hole. However, when restoring machines, I often have to use more oil since the machines are bone dry from having sat for many years. Always be careful not to over oil, but try adding 3 drops per hole when first getting the machine back up to par. Once you have it running and in use, fall back on manual suggestion of one drop. NOTE: NEVER OIL THE MOTOR. Motors for this machine require bearing grease (Singer lubricant comes in a tube can be used). If you google this, you may find instruction on how to grease the bearings, but the first thing to try is getting a bit more oil in the machine. Good luck

thank you I was estatic to find them for 50.00 each. the necchi has everything including the oil container. singer is not complete but I make a but some of other applications might work. I have a singer 99 which is now available in its #49 cabinet. sews like a charm.

The good news is that if you were going to have any of these machines to be "incomplete" as you mentioned, the Singer is the one you would want that way as Singers are the easiest of all brands to find parts for generally. Always try to find vintage parts before seeking new aftermarket. Vintage quality is superior, but you can use new reproductions if you have to. Good luck

hi I have one just like that can you tell how to tell if your machine needs a motor serial number starts with 43
@VintageSewingMachineGarage
@VintageSewingMachineGarage 5 жыл бұрын
One place to check first is the rubber pulley that presses against the hand wheel. If that is dry rotted or has a flat spot, it can be one cause of the motor not turning. There could be other issues as well, but the rubber pulley is fairly simple to check.
