Ironically, it was Rosemary Clooney who said Bing made it so easy that “ if you can’t sing with Bing Crosby, you can’t sing.” I got to see her in concert a few years before she died. She was better than ever, and so in touch with the audience. In retrospect it was an honor and a privilege to have been there. Truly one of the greats.

I have a special place in my heart for White Christmas and Ms. Clooney. Family lore says that after WWII my grandfather was working at a radio station in NYC and met Rosemary. He asked her out to dinner and they apparently had a great time (“but no funny stuff” I’m told lol). He said she was even more beautiful in person and had the best personality. She loved to joke around and had a beautiful laugh. I loved hearing that story as a kid 😊

Tuberculosis (TB) is a global pandemic such as the world has never seen. 1.5 million died from it each year. It is the “most contagious disease in the history of mankind.” It is spread from infected people talking, singing, laughing, sneezing, coughing or spitting. So, why were/are there no TB pandemic response demands from the WHO, CDC, governments, doctors, or the UN to wear masks, washing your hands? Where are the food shortages, toilet paper shortages, disinfectant shortages due to TB? The job losses, the shut downs, the layoffs because of TB pandemic? The quarantines, the social distancing because of TB? TB has ALWAYS made flu-viruses like Covid-19 look like the sniffles. The ‘protective’ measures the CDC and WHO have recommended can’t stop it! In fact, herd mentality history indicates that those ‘preventative measures’ make it much worse. Covid’s real but the toxicity is exaggerated and the mortality rates are inflated for the sake of monetary greed within the medical profession and for the benefit of liberal politicians and their power grab.

There is so much talent in every aspect that makes this movie so emotionally triggering. I literally cried when Netflix quit streaming it after Christmas...now I need to get the DVD since I can't buy the streaming version from Amazon. Irving Berlin is a genius. Edith Head is a genius. The actors are geniuses. An overly stimulating movie with so much song, dance, and don't forget the story line of the General...that one tear in his eye at the end pretty much sums up life...and it was said in "It's a Wonderful Life" at the end..."No man is a failure who has friends". I love The Holiday Inn, but, White Christmas was so lavish, and beautiful with so many stars that it immediately became part of our Christmas Movie tradition.

Hard to believe this film was actually made in '54, because it still holds up so well today. Rosemary Clooney was my first movie star crush, too. When I saw those baby blues and blonde hair, my heart went ka-flooey!! Btw, if you'll notice at exactly 2:24 minutes in to this video, you'll see her dancing with a dark-haired, handsome lad. That dancer was George Chakiris, who would actually go on to star as the leader of the Sharks, 'Bernardo,' in the movie version of "West Side Story" in 1961, when he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

I think George Chakiris was also one of the dancers in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in the scene where Marilyn is dressed in a pink strapless gown singing Diamonds Are A girl’s Best Friend.

@@janeiwasduncan8463 Hmmm, there are so many good ones! The 1951 British adaptation of A Christmas Carol with Alistar Sims is another top 5. Honestly there are so many great ones I should have said top 25 with no particular order. :) Then in addition there are those great kids TV specials from the 1960's such as A Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Some minor gems that I have come to greatly appreciate are It Happened on Fifth Avenue and Christmas in Connecticut. More modern are Santa Claus 2 and Elf. If you ever get the chance watch Stealing Christmas (2003) with Tony Danza and Lea Thompson. IMO it is Danza's best acting. His character is not very likable especially in the beginning but his transformation is slow but steady without overwhelming the viewer with sappy sweetness if you get what I mean.

My best friend of 55 years & I have been huge WC fans since we were kids & have memorized virtually the whole dialogue. The past few years, it has played in theaters for a few days in December, we've gone with my daughter & granddaughters. The grands can't quite believe we can recite ALL the lines right along with the stars. I highly recommend watching it on the big screen if you have the chance, especially to see costume details.
