#NBA is being dominated by white dudes for the first time since Larry Bird. Ok, not really… there was Steve Nash, who was Canadian. And there was Dirk Nowitski, who was German. They were white dudes but they were not American White dudes. In fact, an White American dude has not won the M.V.P. award since Larry Bird did in 1986. That’s approaching 40 years since a White American won N.B.A. M.V.P. And, you might ask, what does this matter? It does not, I guess. But consider the millions of White kids in America that have played basketball over the past 40 years, who have not won MVP. Not one. That is insane.
So when you are talking about the great replacement in the #NBA, you are talking about Europeans replacing Black Americans. But you also have to ask yourself, why are White Europeans better than White Americans? Both things can be talked about simultaneously. Because on one hand, a White kid from Ohio might watch the slow footed Luca Doncic and think, “I have a chance!” But on the other hand, while Luca might look like that kid's uncle, he’s not from America. Something different is happening in Europe.
And if you are a Black American, and you’ve watched Black Americans dominate the NBA for years, you might be thinking, “what are they feeding these white dudes in Europe!?”
So all of this can be considered without starting a race war. Or a European war. Or World War 3. Or a civil war. Or whatever. We can talk about these things around a camp fire and sing “Kumbaya”, because at the end of the day we just want to understand what makes basketball players great.
#nikolajokic Jokic
Nikola Jokic is a Champion and Finals MVP in 2023, a basketball genius, and the patron saint of horse races. It’s the only natural choice for the number one spot on the list. Jokic is, after all, a three time M.V.P.
Giannis Antekokounpo
Giannis Antekokounpo is the only other player on this list that has the accolades to rival the Serb.
However, the Greek Freak and Milwaukee had a disappointing end of their season, which can end up being the right motivation for this year’s run to the title, especially after the addition of Damian Lillard.
#lukadoncic Luka Doncic
The youngest of the modern European “Holy Trinity” of the NBA is just behind Jokic and Giannis, simply because he hasn’t achieved yet the level of success of the two top players on this list.
Still, it seems just a matter of time for him to make it there and jump to the top.
#domantassabonis Domantas Sabonis
The Lithuanian big man has established himself as a European force, a perennial All-Star with three participations already under his belt, and a championship contender with the Kings.
On an individual level, he is not on par with the Top 3, but basketball is a team sport and he is an ideal teammate.
Lauri Markkanen
Moving to Utah proved to be the right choice for the Finnisher and also for the Jazz.
He flourished in his new environment, proving that for real he is similar to Dirk Nowitzki, and that makes him a candidate to improve his status this season even more.
#victorwembanyama Victor Wembanyama
A rookie in the Top 10? Victor Wembanyama was not just a “rookie”.
He has all the tools and the right environment in San Antonio to become one of the All-Time greats, if not the greatest of all. Wemby proved all doubters wrong in his first season and the sky is the limit.
#NikolaVucevic. Nikola Vucevic
The Montenegrin big man of the Bulls remains a force in the paint and one of the most underrated players in the league.
Can he do more not only about his solid numbers but for Chicago to have success in the post-season? That’s the big question and the even bigger personal challenge for him.
#franzwagner Franz Wagner
While he was second-in-command in the German national team and out for most of the tournament due to injury, he is clearly the future of his teams.
Yes, it’s plural because Orlando is also included and Wagner is just starting to show what he is capable of.
#kristapsporzingis Kristaps Porzingis
After injury woes and the failed experiment of pairing up with Doncic, Porzingis is back for good and after a great season with the Wizards, he moved to the Celtics.
Can he be the missing piece for Boston? It remains to be seen and to remind everyone why he started the “unicorn” trend.
#rudygobert Rudy Gobert
It was a hard and debated choice. After all, not so long ago Gobert was among the Top 3 European players on this list.
Having said that, his move to Minnesota so far has not helped his status, neither the Timberwolves on the level it was expected, but he remains a three-time All-Star and a three-time defender of the year.

And tell me after looking at this list, do you think the next NBA greats are going to come out of Europe or America?
