James, you said all expansion vessels have a 3/4male fitting, the last 3 I've fitted have been 22mm nut and olive! Absolute pain in the arse when I had the 3/4 female fittings ready! Incidentally, two of the EV's had been fitted to the balanced cold!! OMG!!! The temp & pressure relief valve stopped the cylinder from blowing!!

I thought expansion vessels are meant to be fit with the inlet/outlet facing towards the bottom (not sideways like you mounted yours)?

James only just latched on to your site, excellent, really great tips and love the way you cut through all the nonsense. Im retiring from my Job as a Mechanical Surport Engineer for a big Pharma company. (Sounds posh doesnt it, It Isnt !)Ive always been handy done lots of plumbing jobs you know washing machines, outside taps etc.. I trained as a welder so Im handy with the blow touch, but im trying to get more clued up with the heating side of things, so when watching your video on Gravity Feed Heating Systems (The one with your symatic on the big piece of wood, what would have been handy for me in that Video would have been to draw in the doemestic water sytem side (The feed for the taps).ie where would the expansion go from the emersion heaterAlso when you were fitting the new GWS expansion vessel why did you choose to mount it on the floor ? and lastly the expansion vessel was white what is the Red vessel behind you used for.Cheers Bob P.S. You should get a book on the go, it would be a great reference when on the job (Like stuck in a airing cupboard ! ) Did Joe Wicks no harm !!! :)

Thanks for this vid. Good explanation. My pressure vessel (potable, unvented system) fails regularly, causing the pressure relief to go. Plumber comes (I've used different ones for 2nd and 3rd opinions) and says, 'yep, I'll need to replace the pressure vessel'. This happens about once a year, and then low and behold, it lasts a while and fails again. I asked plumber after plumber why this keeps happening, perhaps another more systemic fault -with the multi valve perhaps?? But everyone just says replace the pressure vessel... Oh, and they tell me off for the pressure vessel not being mounted on the wall... it starts off on the wall but when its gets heavy with water (when it fails), it falls off. Also leaving on the floor makes it easy to feel how heavy it is and tell when its getting near needing replacing again!

I have just bought a replacement vessel 12l but the details say it's been precharged at under 2 bar, my ariston contract STi indirect cylinder says the vessel should be charged at 3.5 bar. Which is correct. I noticed your video did not show you checking bag pressure

Would fitting a non return valve on the mains and say a 300litre potable water vessel straight after boost mains pressure? My house has pretty good pressure but the flow is terrible due to the mains being only a half inch pipe about 50m long
