I've always knew about Herobrine, but I didn't know about White Eyes until recently, when the Minecraft Wiki (which had just moved off of Fandom) brought it up and mentioned it as a predecessor to Herobrine. All these years and I just assumed the Creepypasta that first mentioned Herobrine by name was where it all started, and that there wasn't any predecessor to it before then.

​@unicornbr1588Well techinicaly its his or its real name. Herobrine is probably the user name it used to send the messege to stop to the individual who encounter it. Like theres a site that is just called "Him" whit a Steve head and photo realistic eyes. Because it dosent really have a name its just...Him. People started calling Herobrine because of the forum user that had sended the messege to stop spreeding the info. Even Mojang started saying that "Herobrine" is a very awfull name (its in the official Minecraft wiki where i found the info) and its honestly silly.

the thing i like about this myth is that its just two white pixels and as a result something really easy to accidently think you've seen yourself. i could imagine being a kid and catching something glowing in the corner of my eye and being freaked out

Once on the Xbox 360 edition I heard the cave ambience for the first time (on Xbox SPECIFICALLY because I had never used it before) my screen flashed two big white squares in the approximate locations of Minecraft character eyes and I took 2 hearts of damage then got attacked by a hoard of zombies and died. RIP that one piece of iron I got.

i dont think it was white eyes or any myth but i was playing minecraft on my 3ds a few days ago for nostalgia and i had a T shaped strip-mine and i was going to the top of the T and something sprinted past the little hall, i checked to see if it was a mob but there wasnt anything, it was like a weird spider thingy, anybody have an explanation? im genuinely freakin out over this

I remember playing Minecraft pocket edition back in 2017 with that now defunct Chinese mod manager. I remember mining in complete darkness in a cave system. But despite the brightness being set to max, I couldn't understand what had killed me so quickly. And on the death screen, I just saw two white eyes staring at me. This caused me to stop playing Minecraft for a year, and I am still confused about it.

Minecraft was the direct catalyst for my introduction to the internet, and Herobrine was a massive part of that introduction. To this day, I devoutly believe in Him - though my "belief" has evolved as I've grown up, the way a child's "belief" in Santa Claus might, from believing in the literal entity physically existing and actually doing the things they're said to do to just believing in the entity as a metaphorical concept that exists in its own unique, unquantifiable way. Either way, though, it is very interesting to learn that His legend has origins that stretch back this far. Thank you for this breakdown. :)

Have you ever stopped to think that some of the legends present in the alpha versions will never be able to be completely disproved? Of course the part about mysticism and ghosts can be disproved but.... The fact that these entities have already existed does not mean, even if we do not have concrete evidence that they have already existed, we also have nothing that does not prove that they did not exist in the pre-alpha and alpha versions
