My full fluffy bread video and the recipe are here. www.maangchi.com/recipe/ppang
Do you want to make white fluffy bread? It's called my pandemic bread because I developed this recipe during the pandemic when my favorite bakery was closed. : ) Ever since then, I never buy a loaf of bread and always make my own.

I made this but instead of two loafs. I made one loaf of bread and cinnamon rolls with the rest. Omg I’m so in love with this recipe. The best. You can convert this dough into dinner rolls, dessert bread. Just add your cinnamon roll filling and 400 14 mins. Heaven!

It’s a basic sweet bread recipe and it’s delicious and simple !! When I lived in Japan I made dozens of these but I fancied them up with cinnamon, nuts, other spices and candied fruits , I didn’t split the dough but made long strips that I made into braids , wreaths , “ candy” cane’s, etc I sold them at a Japanese farmer’s market for 50 bucks each . 💜

The word came to Japan and Korea in the 1500s with Portuguese traders - so that’s how that similarity came about!

@@ana419 They did technically, but it wasn’t like the brown crusty exterior breads that Europe made in ovens. China had Jin Dynasty historians writing about leavened and unleavened breads going all the way back to the Han Dynasty (roughly 200 BCE to 200 CE). But by and large, these would have been like steamed bread buns steamed in baskets with more moisture, allowing them to puff up and get fluffy, but not getting a crust like European breads. And in southern parts of China and more tropical areas, wheat wasn’t a major crop, so these buns weren’t as common. And these cultures all have their own words for those kinds of bread. So it was European breads that became known as ppang or pan. In Japan you also have panko bread crums (“pan” meaning bread, and “ko” meaning flakes/crumbles/flecks - you see “ko” meaning these things in other Japanese words like “hi-no-ko” [fire flecks - aka sparks] and “hakuriki-ko” for cake flour)

No bread on Earth was nice and soft like ours today until the heavy introductions of commercial yeast as well. I grew up eating the Puerto Rican style of pan de Mallorca, and they were some super soft milk breads. Then in Seattle it was actually shokupan. This is quite a special recipe for the home baker though I think. The way it uses leftover heat from the melting the butter and the whole thing is then put right on the pan is genius!

"Ppang" is a word for bread in Portuguese 🇵🇹🥰. I went looking for the origin after hear you say "ppang" Explanation: - The Portuguese took the recepie to Japan, like there are lots of Portuguese cuisine influence at Japan by the century XVI. Then the Japanese took it to Korea 😊. No internet at the time, do far away from Europe/ Portug🇵🇹al, still those people were brave adventurers. In Portuguese the word is "Pão", but as you say is perfect 👌just exactly as you pronounce by reading "pão". By the way I'm Portuguese and love your recepies. You are very happy and nice. God bless you!!

I don't really care for bread that much, but I'd pay good money for this. I can just tell it's so yummy...some butter and a cupof coffee. Seems like the best snack ever...
