White Hart Lane, Tottenham Hotspur 1979

Following an agreement with the copyright holder reproduced here is short film footage of a number of English and Scottish Football grounds taken during the 1979/1981 seasons. The original Cine film was shot in Super 8 format in colour and last approximately 90 seconds the quality is variable. (This version 640x480).
The footage captures the scene in and around grounds revealing the stands and terraces and they are a unique snapshot of crucially how the grounds appeared at the time before some of which disappeared forever or had yet to be redeveloped. Clubs not featured were either never filmed or they refused permsission to film at their ground.

Just been on the tour after going to matches since 1993. Gonna miss the old girl. Beautiful film of the old stands- they should publish a book of WHL's evolution to commemorate the new stadium

Incredibly distinctive ground. Had already lost some capacity since its heyday tho. New grounds should be a mixture of old and new characteristics. Big towering stands, but old styling and individuality with big terraces.

Been there loads of time with MAN UTD and once nearly got the sack from work as was supposed to be working one sat afternoon back in 79 when my area manager saw me in the away end stood behind Alex Stepney taking a goal kick on MOD.

It kinda reminds me of Fulham's Main Stand nowadays, not surprising since it was designed by the same guy who built the original stands for White Hart Lane, and also it survives to the present day, unlike the Lane unfortunately.

I went to my 1st ever game against Spurs at St James Park. I was 10 or 11. I remember being loaded of cold and just wanting to go home ASAP as I was freezing and felt terrible. I think it would of been either the 87/88 season or 88/89 season. After this I never went to a game until the 93/94 season when I used to skive off of college and go to a few away games with my mates. The last game I went to was in 2005 football is way to expensive nowadays and I don't tend to get much time off.

As you see it this stadium with no developments held 70,336 people for a match on the 18th November 1950 vs Newcastle. Bigger than Old Trafford bigger than Highbury, Where they put them I don't know......

That's incredible. The shelf stand held the most fans. The Park lane and Paxton Rd ends look small but Tardis comes to mind!

The biggest crowd I went to at spurs was 54,000 against man utd 1979.

Up until the 50's both park lane and the Paxton were all terraced, hence the large capacity. The record is over 75,000 in 1938 against sunderland. COYS
