White Horns (W) vs Mono Black (B) | Old School MTG 93/94 | Atlantic Rules |

Time for another old school Magic the Gathering duel! This time, we are playing a game of Atlantic Old School Magic and that means Fallen Empires is allowed and mana burn is real. In this episode, I am playing with a brand new white weenie brew that I have names, 'White Horns', because it includes multiple copies of the reserved list card, Conch Horn (aka the Ancestral Recall of Fallen Empires). My deck will have to battle against its arch rival, a mono Black discard deck piloted by the Canadian players Alexander.

I think it would have been an interesting line in game one for black to have purposefully missed it's second land drop. I feel like the Specter's value was negated/outpaced by the Tax, so skipping drop #2 forces white to either also skip, or play their own land which negates the Tax on subsequent turns. Hard to say if that kine wiuld have been good, but I think it would have been very interesting. Great games, though, very fun watch

I don't know the cards from Fallen Empires so well so I thought it was great to see cards like Conch Horn (the artwork alone is already 😘). It's nice that you always try something new and build something into the Decks that you usually don't see that often! 👍

I'm a fan of running Brass Man and/or Yotian Soldier, or even Living Wall, in these mono color decks. That protection is a pain. I really dig these "hate" matches.

Cool idea, Soldiers and Brass man offer lots of value for their casting cost.

@@TimmytheSorcerer , that's how we used to play it back in the mid-nineties. Back then we didn't fully understand the value of Mishra's Factory, plus under those older rules the Factory was categorically worse than it is today.

Fun match. I think this might be why you dont see WOTC bringing back color based protection as it can totally dominate the game play.

Absolutely, that is why playing with the right artifacts is so important when you choose to go mono colour in old school.

I think you should drop the Ankhs. You need 4 White Knights and 4 Crusades. You're running Armageddon, so 1 Serra is enough. Sol Ring may not be good enough in this deck. Thunder spirits may be better than Serra. Conch Horns seem really bad. Three Land Tax is too many. You're aggro, so play aggro. Balance is for the side board. You can make this deck super powerful by changing out 11 cards.

@@mikelong2756 that doesn't mean you should play to lose...LOL. Though it really is fun to see decks with cards no one uses regularly. It adds a flavor to the game that I really appreciate.

Is crusade banned in the Old School formats? Or is it just banned at certain tournaments? Crusade is such a silly card to ban and banning it makes white weenie much worse. Why not ban bad moon as well?

Hi Joe, for most cards I leave it up to the players to decide what they feel comfortable with. What I understand is that it is up to tournament organisers to decide what cards are and aren't allowed. Obviously it is important to take feelings and sentiment into consideration. The last thing I want to do with my channel is offend anybody. Timmy Talks is about showing how cool and fun the old school MTG format is. I hope the games and tournament reports show how open, relaxed and accepting the OS community is to all.

@@TimmytheSorcerer Thanks for the reply. Crusade is a playable card in old school white decks, so I was wondering how the rules work. I also play with stone throwing devils. Your channel definitely shows how fun, cool, relaxed, and accepting old school is. My personal issue is the high cost of some of the cards. I just wish it was more affordable. With that said, your channel shows you can have a lot of fun with budget decks.

@@TimmytheSorcerer you mentioned it. I was agreeing with you. When he didn't pump the Ebon Hand, he had played a land under your ankh but didn't drop his life total. You were dead anyway, but 2 damage from ankh is significant.
