Your direct and simple approach is much appreciated. You are one of the best KZbin reviewers and I really enjoy how you target us relative newcomers to the espresso world . I have just 'upgraded' to an Opus grinder and my espresso's are much better. Wonder if I should have waited for the '54' on screen.

Gaggia made a dual boiler espresso machine for Kitchen Aid labelled as their “Pro Line” model. From what I’ve read, it was a standard Classic, with a second boiler, dual temperature gauges, pinarello wand with a very Kitchen Aid looking shell. It also had a 5 year warranty. And like any Gaggia, could be extensively modded and fixed with standard Gaggia parts. It was very inexpensive for a dual boiler machine, running around $1300CAD. You could last get them in Canada for under $600CAD at the Hudson’s Bay Company on clearance. If I had only known…

Hi Tom I got the Outin nano and the basket plus as well. The magnetic ring fits better once you put the basket into the holder, which helps with the puck prep. Also in my tests so far a bit coarser than porterfilter works the best. I also usually go for lighter roasts I just think they taste better out of this machine than the darker roasts. So far I am really happy with the purchase, can easily prep myself a nice cup of espresso no matter where I am 😃 Looking forward to the tests you will do with it, greetings from Vienna 🙋🏼‍♂️

I mean, I have not had the issue, have had mine since it came out. I preheat for 20-30 mins daily too, I guess we will see.... having read WLL response, seems like a flaw out of manufacturing, polymerization seemed to have occurred during the coating process. In my mind, this means that they will fail relatively quickly after purchase.

Hi Tom, I recently got the Outin along with the nano basket kit for my birthday. Would love to get more tips from you on it as I'm experimenting. I wish knocking out the puck was easier. Dialing in took a few tries along with the correct grams and water ratio, but it does the job for my business travels. Seems like 70mils of water vs max gets a cleaner basket and shots. I also use a paper puck filter.

Thanks Tom, it's sad that other youtubers don't touch on boilergate, especially those who have been involved in marketing EVO. In Europe it is the wild west when it comes to the help you get, some dealers claim to be completely unaware of the problem, some seem to know about it but think that a descaling is enough to fix the problem, which turns out to only worsen flaking. Some have had the boiler replaced, but it is a problem to just replace the boiler, as it will sit against the brew head which is made of brass and probably cause galvanic currents. Someone got the money back, etc. Gaggia couldn't do worse than what they do in the EU. Why do they continue to sell the machine!?
@FarouqTaj
@FarouqTaj 8 ай бұрын
The financial impact to Gaggia is unknown but it might be catastrophic. If the coating is unsuitable for espresso boilers due to high temp. and pressure then this issue will affect most of the machines they made in 2023. That might be unaffordable for Gaggia which is probably why they haven't been very responsive.
@dejedejsson
@dejedejsson 8 ай бұрын
@@FarouqTaj Gaggia is owned by Philips so I think gaggia will be fine in the short term, but Gagggia is handling this horribly and trust will be hard to rebuild, I personally am affected and have been incredibly badly treated by the dealer who takes directives directly from Gaggia it seems. I will never buy a machine or gadget from gaggia again.

Interesting presentation on 'white label sales'. Problem arises when the product looks similar but is a cheaply-made knockoff. I almost purchased a Bosch fuel pump for my car off ebay for $38. I contacted Bosch, they looked at the listing and explained that the PACKAGING was counterfeit. The part inside is not Bosch. It is a real ((crappy) part that will probably not work correctly and then fail shortly after the 1 year warranty is up.

Likewise I was about to buy the Gaggia and have now decided to go with the Rancilio Silvia. The Silvia is £64 more expensive in the UK but arguably made with better materials. My main concern with the Rancilio is the steam pressure which is very high and takes time to master when steaming milk.

In Romania the Turin/Mii/Avx did not caught on and the local distributor is not selling them from some time now. My guess is people do want a heritage machine. It can still be found in Hungary, but I'm not sure for how long. Myself if I wanted to buy a machine and upgrade from the Dedica, I would go straight to the Lelit PL41TEM and skip the GCP/E.
@Deeper-Trends

I would consider Lelit machines myself also until I found out that they have 2.5% lead in their brass alloy boilers. So I'm not in to boilers anymore unless they are made of stainless steel.

URGENT for Tom re Evo problem: Sorry to be a PITA but I have a GREAT video idea for you (maybe). WLL sells a replacement aluminum boiler unit for $35 (!) which is a lot lower than I would have imagined. Maybe there is a larger-capacity stainless steel replacement out there somewhere (??). >> Point being, replacement at that price ($35) it is just not a big problem, and it makes sense to replace badly-scaled units rather than cleaning them up.
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 8 ай бұрын
I don't know. I haven't seen anyone on reddit or otherwise figure it out. It's a specialized design the GCP has. One would need to manufacture the boiler, and doing it with stainless will be expensive to machine. I think it might be best to move on to a different machine to be honest, or buy an older GCP.
@SunriseLAW
@SunriseLAW 8 ай бұрын
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Main reason for comment is the fact that Whole Latte Love has the aluminum boiler for $35. All the doom and gloom, all the Gaggia bashing happening all over KZbin is really unnecessary, which might be a good vid. For $35 it hardly pays to descale (joking of course).

Hi Tom, I think your compare Gaggia Boiler with a Bialeti is not right, because after use you disassemble , clean and dry a Bialeti. But is impossible to do with Gaggia. So, Gaggia boiler is always full of water, being corroded and still has galvanic corrosion due a bi metalic junction aluminum boiler and steell of the group head. Gaggia is a obsolete machine and is not a match to a such a modern one like MiCoffee with brass boiler and PID. Chears,
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 8 ай бұрын
I suppose you're right that the Bialetti is only aluminum, and it can dry out between uses. But I was making the point that the Italians have been using aluminum for a long time now. Anyway, I don't think Gaggia is obsolete - they have too much heritage for that. But, this is quite a hiccup in my estimation.

You are using the nanobasket Wrong way. You should put the basket into the black rim and then you put the doser on top. It is magnetic and it holds together nicely. Then you tamper the coffee with the doser still on. You didnt use the leveler. That was a completely botched cup of coffee and it does not represent the capability of this device. I can make beautiful espresso with this heck of a Machine.

Why not just pay few dollars extra and make the boiler out of stainless steel? All problems solved. I know from the teflon pans that the coating is susceptible to acid. I suspect if your machine is not flaking today after some counts of descaling (which is basically acid) it could be flaking in the future
@TomsCoffeeCorner
