This is a spin-off of the first 2 videos. Part 1 is educational and Part 2 is the results.
Part 1 • White LED vs Red/Blue ... (Educational)
Part 2 • White LED vs Red/Blue ... (Results)
Part 4 • White LED vs Red/Blue ... (Final Results)
2018's Red/Blue vs White LED - • White LED vs Red Blue ...
White LED VS RED/BLUE/WHITE LED Grow Test Ep.1 2018
- • White LED vs Red Blue ...
White LED VS RED/BLUE/WHITE LED Grow Test Ep.2 2018
- • White LED vs Red Blue ...
In this video I show you a graphed PAR output of both LED lights and a standard Cree screw in medium base floodlight for comparison. Not mentioned in the video, the graph shows PAR output is directly related to wattage consumed. Part 4 will be posted above eventually.

I just watched parts 1-3 and this has been really informative. Thank you! I was trying to learn how to help out my house plants in my rather dark house. Trying to find some floor lamps or table lamps to create more light for them. But they need to be white led or else it looks crazy in my house. Do you have any suggestions for that type of thing?

hello. Thanks for your video... It helped me in my research work. Have you tested the 12LED grow light bulb, with 3 blues and 6 red?

Can you test the same par at same distances with a “ say small reflective tent and a white tent or in closure “ to see if the light or how much more or deeper the light can penatrate possibly versus in a open type room

Ryan I have a question for you about that 3000k 50w lightingever lamp you have. Their website says that it's a 150w HPS equivalent, but lists it as 3250lm. Is that correct? A real 150w HPS is nearly 16,000 lumens, which would mean the lamp is nowhere even close to being equal.

Would the PAR measurements be the same for the 6000 kelvin LE 50W Flood light ? I think you use that one in another video.
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 7 жыл бұрын
TheAthanik between the 2 lights with different kelvin's, the input wattage is the same and the par output is only slightly different. It's only splitting hairs though. Literally a half inch height adjustment changes everything. Since plants grow at fairly rapid rates, that half inch means nothing.

I'm trying to build an exo terra vivarium (36x18x36) to grow low to medium light orchids and I want to use LEDs that are not purple, your video helped a lot. I'm having a hard time finding LEDs lights for my project, plus I never used grow lights before. Are the house hold LED bulbs the same as the ones used for grow lights? Can I use the basic Hydrofarm LG17010 Digital Light Meter to measure LED lights or do I need to buy a different meter (Extech Instruments LT45 LED Light Meter)?
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 7 жыл бұрын
CC actually household led lights are ok if you have enough of them. I would say enough to equal 40 consumed watts. Orchids don't need all that much light so it should be fine. you can you a lux meter, but you'll need to reference it with something. cheap meters are also not typically calibrated for led lights, but it should be close enough.

I wonder if there would be a PAR strength difference between the light with 50 1W LEDs and a light with 17 3W LEDs.

Yes , the panel with 50x 1 watt LEDs will have a much steeper drop off than the higher powered LEDs.

Very informative videos that I enjoy looking at, thank you very much. I was wondering if a 6000K white LED would work if I intend to grow Butter Head Lettuce, since you said blue light is good for vegetative growth? Or should I rather stick with a 3000K white LED? Would love to hear your opinion on this.
@GrowingAnswers

I can't say anything based on first hand experience, but scientifically speaking, heavier on the blue spectrum is going to give you more output per watt between 5k-6k. I would go with 3500-4500k led if going the "yellow" route. It's likely not going to make any difference. Just don't go too "blue" if going the blue-ish route. In my opinion, 4500-5500k would be ideal. It closely replicates summer sun.

Is the color spectrum same for cfl \ t5 fluorescent 65k versus led 65k? Thanks, need to know for vegetative growth...
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 7 жыл бұрын
Specifically, no. It depends on the light. Some LEDs will have higher percentages of other wavelengths. Quality lights will show you the spectral graph. One might say 3500 or 6000, but in reality it may may not be exact. With the human eye, visually a light is usually looked at on human skin to compare light quality. One light might say 5000k and so would another, but you may see a variation when you compare them. Plants also see a variation, but they are not quite as picky. Intensity is more important than a perfect spectrum as long as it's close to the kelvin number, the intensity matters more. Hid metal halide grows plants great, but the spectrum itself is considered perfect by some standards. It grows well because of the power output and not because it has a dialed in spectral output

definitely Not .. just perform 2 separate google searches on led 6500k color spectrum and flourescent 6500k color spectrum and click on the images and you will see the led spectrum is more full spectrum whereas the flourescent will have more peaks with distinct color band gaps

Hey man, thanks for the great research. I have a 100w Citizen CLU048 1212 3500K chip that I run at 50W. All I know about it is it's 129lumen/W. Do you think I could use your chart to estimate it's PAR levels regardless of chip make?
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but give yourself to wiggle room for center par. It might be more intense.
@MTechOver9000

@@GrowingAnswers thanks for the response. Might I suggest for your channel you use your quantum sensor to test the PAR maps of some cheap cobs. I know the citizen clu048 1212 3500K had a strong fan base in the underground growing circles (it's like $8 per cob). There's also very popular cheap Chinese driverless cobs that people swear by (YXO Yuxinou) which are like $2 lol. If you actually tested their PPFD, you would be the first as I can't find these measurements anywhere as I'm pretty sure the mainstream sellers wouldn't want this information out there if they were any good. The community would be very grateful ;)

MTech over9000 this should give you an idea. Not specifically the leds you asked about, but basically in the same class. Efficiency is even worse than hid lights. Might as well use incandescent. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZ_Eh6VoeMympsU

Why 50 watts against 38 watts ? I like would like to see this test though, just in an even wattage for a more decisive test.
@GrowingAnswers
@GrowingAnswers 8 жыл бұрын
You can't get a 50w red/blue cob that actually consumes 50w that I know of. That's why in part 2 I did the test at the same height and in part 4 it will be with even par values to compensate for wattage differences.

Actually I haven't thought of this, but technically I could take a 50watt driver out of my other light. However, that doesn't mean the par output would be equal at the same distance. For now, I have to stick to my current experiment going on.

the reason why its a lower wattage is because red LEDs run at 2/3 the voltage of blue LEDs . There are still 50 LEDs on each chip . Its a fair comparison, .I use 3500k throughout a grow . and ad a little 660nm/630nm red .4 660 red to 1 630 red when flowering

So i wanted to take measurement liek you , but i dont have that meter , i made it DIY in couple seconds , took an LED and connected it to Voltmeter , that is it , just point it towards the light and you can measure intensity like a boss and i mean precise , and if you want to measure different wavelengths use a color filter , i dont have that handy but but no doubt if filter is good it will work .
