There’s one more reason why someone might not comply with police. In this case, he literally didn’t understand why he was in trouble? The cop escalated at every turn and continued laying hands on and pursuing a man he clearly couldn’t subdue and who tried to reason with him before trying to run away from him. Lyoya was never a threat to that cop’s life. He was a threat to his ego.

A few month ago a group of loud college kids were climbing some construction equipment parked outside my apartment window late at night while I was trying to sleep. I thought about calling the police to report a noise complaint but even though I'm white and am unlikely to be targeted by the police I didn't want to risk one of the college kids getting shot over a noise complaint so I just waited for them to leave.
