In this video, Diana Bytyqi, DNP, FNP-C, discusses the difference between white potatoes and sweet potatoes. Diabetics need to pick the best potatoes that won't increase their blood sugar too drastically. Potatoes are high in carb overall and can increase blood sugar levels.
Although both are nutritious and contain essential vitamins and minerals, sweet potatoes have less carb content and higher fiber content, therefore, making them more desirable for diabetics. They also have more calcium, vitamin C and vitamin A which are essential for our immune system, bone health and eye health.
Sweet potatoes also contain manganese which is helpful for wound healing and important for diabetics.

They would be good for lunch if i watch out what i eat for the rest of the day and cut off all carbs in the next meal and snacks

Portion control is so important. Try to make small changes daily and you will be surprised what a difference it can make in the long run.

A friend and I come very close to matching in readings on the glysimic response to Russett and sweet potatos. Both of us spike and remain at higher levels with Sweetpotatos, over Russett. This doesn't match what she's saying. I have no way of checking the vitamin content. But I am diabetic, and have to monitor my blood sugars closely. Both types of potatos were not acceptable. And I'm responding because I was told that Sweet Potatos were acceptable. Can someone please check this on themselves if you eat both potatos and monitor your levels? My readings are not supposed to be the case. Sweet Potatos are largely considered healthy. I'm back and have looked online and am convinced that White while NOT acceptable, are at least milder than the Sweet Potato. Diabetes seriously needs to get an HONEST voice! Folks, get your own monitors and see for yourself.

Yes, it's interesting when you break it down by minerals, vitamins, carb content, etc. You realize just how careful we should be and aware of what we are eating.
