In an interview Ryan Ike talked about accidentally ripping himself off when he used a guitar piece that he had written for another project as "temporary music" in West of Loathing, and the devs loved it and insisted he keep it, so he tweaked it slightly to get "Sit Fer A Spell". This must have been that track.

For those still wandering, yes the song is a metaphor of death, but if you dig deeper you can find a ghost story from Arizona called "White Riders", which describes 12 riders who come for you when it is your time, aka when you die.

“Locked on” refers to actual locks, like, “seems you’ve got a lock on things” simply means you’ve got good control on this situation, or, in this case, he’s locked on and in control to get to his destination. As for Vagrant Song, you do realize there’s more to the West than simply deserts, right? A vagrant could easily see the sea, I know it might sound crazy, but many people in the west came from other countries, from, you know, the sea?
