+katherine harvey, the vets closely monitor the big cats and their weight and dietary needs. They are offered a variety of raw meats in their diet. You can read about what the cats are fed at: bigcatrescue.org/feed-cats

Some cats seem to chuff, rub the wire or walk off after a meal. Amanda's style is "No more? Then go away...go now!" . I think Cameron wants turtle soup.

Cameron is 17 years old and has the lion's version of Lou Gehrig's Disease. He is a picky eater and does not eat much at once. He is fed multiple times a day, all that he will eat.

When Cameron arrived in 2004 we really did not expect him to reach this old age of 17. He is doping well for his age and we count every day with him as a gift.

Lions can live much longer . Apart from the true nature of course... generally for captive lions, this can range from 30 to 50 years max . 17 years is normal for a captive lion . anyway , thanks for this video .

Wow, that first bit with Amanda. I am so used to seeing her copping a major cattitude, I found myself wondering, "Is that REALLY Amanda?" LOL, I liked how Kathryn was patiently calling for Zabu, but it wasn't until she said "treat" that she actually got Zabu to come to the side of the enclosure. "Treats? Why didn't you say so? I would have been there AGES ago!"

Wow, Amanda was like, "What to you mean 'You're done!?'" And her brothers are inwardly laughing at Amanda scaring your poor keeper. I'm glad she's doing fine after her dental surgery. And I'm so happy that Zabu is doing fine. I still think about the near-drowning scare. I'm glad everyone is in good health and doing fine.

+sa rah, Cameron is 18 years old. That is 108 in human years. Anyone 108 years old would have lower energy and old lions, like old people tend to lose body fat and are picky eaters, although Cameron has been eating better and looks much healthier than he has the last few months. He lost his mane when he was neutered because of his aggressiveness to Zabu and the keepers when Zabu was around. He may have lost his mane but he is much happier. This link explains why old tigers and lions are so skinny. bigcatrescue.org/skinny

thought the same, i think it has to do with castration cuz testesteron make males stronger and more muscular and get that mane. idonno if it was worth to make him lose part of himself just to stay with Zabu, but he may have got worst if you took Zabu away i don't know?

Love all your videos and really enjoy your narrating! But I have to admit I'm so happy when you can't see comments since you're not talking to people out here in viewerland. I understand the appeal of the live streaming for answering questions. But watching the taped versions later (on any channel, not BCR in particular) can be so irritating, especially when the narrator is just saying hello to a bunch of names on and on and on. At least BCR has great video content regardless of the sound! Thank you for all you do. We are so lucky to have people like all of you in the world.

Cameron doesn't look like he felt good. He was very thin. His ribs were showing. I miss both Cameron and Zabu.
@DailyBigCat5 жыл бұрын
+Rachel Schwebach, Cameron was always a very picky eater. He would go thru phases where he would eat well and gain some weight, then other phases where he would eat very little. The keepers worked diligently to get him to eat multiple times every day! Sadly he did pass away at age 18 earlier this year. Most big cats live to be 10-12 in the wild.
@gigiw.76507 жыл бұрын
Wait. A lion being a picky eater? That would be hilarious if not because he's sick.😦

@DailyBigCat6 жыл бұрын
+Sparkal, each of the cats enclosures has multiple water bowls that are filled several times a day. On several occasions on either Brittany or Carole's live feeds, the cats are shown drinking from their water bowls. If you watch Hoover on the explore camera, you will see him drink from one of his water bowls often. He has several, but only one is in view of the camera.

I love how everyone thinks they're an expert on the internet. The people at BCR actually ARE experts and know their cats very well. They give them a well balanced diet of several different kinds of meat, and space out the times and amounts of the feeding, depending on the needs of the individual cats.
@kanata_yan4 жыл бұрын
Beatnik I know right. The real experts know what they’re doing.
