This ONE Thing Stopped Our Volvo 240 Starting!

Just replaced the ignition amplifier on my 240. Was having intermittent non starts and tried everything else. I took the old one off and cleaned it and the time between non start and then starting up improved, but not cured. So I bought a new one and replaced it. I’m convinced this was the culprit! Thanks!!!!

Glad you guys fixed your Volvo! My 1993 Volvo 240 won’t start now that I had the alternator replaced on it but before the alternator was replaced it started in less than a second so I’m thinking it might have the same issue. Or it could be that something is corroded electrically because it doesn’t sound like the fuel pumps are coming on. Advice would be appreciated.

The joys of the internal combustion engine. My 940 would not start after sitting unused for about 4 months. I decided I would dismantle and rebuild every system that contributed to a running engine. Starting with the lift pump in the fuel tank. And that was the failed part. I had to remove the tank after removing the drive shaft, that was a saga. But I fixed it after much work. And now it is a lovely runner. Love my Volvo.

Glad to see you got it running! For performance cams I use Enem cams from Sweden. There are other good options but I like them because they are new cams and you don't need lash caps. Looking forward to hearing the Dellortos roar for you.

So happy for you both 🥳🥳 i had an uplugged hall sender incident when trying to sell my 8v mk2 in 2009... bump starting it down the hill in front of buyer who promptly left 😂 2nd buyer bought it day or two later and was a local chap, luckily for me as she only ended up 20 miles away after him, and i got it back in 2015 🙂👍

Why did you need the Amplifier? Was there one fitted originally? Glad you got it started.

Electronics in cars? Yeah, always a pain in the arse(nal). Good ol' Wyn the pipe, He's the man. A friend helped me with an old Hilam Hunter which was runnig poorly many years ago. His conclusion was "Sh1t in the carb mate". "oh!", I said, "how often do I have to do that then?".

Stromberg/Zenith is what they used to put on the 164's. Why not twin Su's which is what the "sporty" volvos used to have back in the day? I think they look great but so do the delortos.

If the car does not start with easy start, then you need to check the ignition system. One learns by doing. After a lot of research, finally results.

Yay!!! Those 7 pin bosch ignition amplifiers are a curse to peugeot owners too, especially Jetronic injection as they dont inject without spark! single coil variants do only use the 6 pins, there is a version using the same casing for wasted spark systems that does use the 7th pin, these arent compatible.

Annoying I know but it works now so congratulations on getting to the bottom of the problem. Whilst not wishing to teach my grandmother to suck eggs or you for that matter,please make certain that the mounting of the amplifier to the heatsink in not only spotlessly clean but is well coated with the correct compound to ensure best possible conductivity,good luck.

Using the logo to hide the culprit in the thumbnail implies that you and the channel are the reason the car didn't start. I'm not sure that's what you were trying to communicate, though, lol.
