There’s something really uneasy about this planet in a strange Earth-based way. It feels so disconnected from the rest of the galaxy, and I can see why the more '80s, Earth-inspired American setting fits now. I remember when a few people were losing their minds over the trailers, calling it lazy and saying this planet and it's buildings looked too much like Earth. But after watching the first episode and hearing about what’s going on here, it’s starting to make sense. I’m also getting High Republic vibes. They never mention the New Republic, just referring to "The Republic." There’s a lot of gold and white, which reminded me of the design from the High Republic era. Plus, the kids seem to have so much insight into the Jedi and their lore, which would make sense on a New Republic planet, since they’d restore all the lost information about the Jedi that the Empire had banned. But it also makes sense that an isolated planet formed during the height of the Republic, cut off from the rest of the galaxy, would still have data about the Jedi, even with the rise of the Empire. So, does this mean these kids have no idea about the Clone Wars, the Fall of the Jedi and the Republic, or the rise and fall of the Empire, along with the formation of the New Republic?
@CaptainAmercia18 сағат бұрын
You could also argue that the planet is meant to reflect Earth and the audience, like when we were kids, playing with our Star Wars toys and having lightsaber fights with our friends. Dreaming about discovering a crashed ship that takes us to a galaxy far, far away. Making the planet Earth would be too much, but having it simply reflect Earth during a certain time (the '80s), at the height of Star Wars fandom, is a better move.

Skeleton Crew has a lot in common with Attack on Titan. Wim's desire about explore the outside world is very similar to Eren Yeager. Also Farah's comments about the Republic (not the New Republic), the currency still in circulation like the Old Republic, the slightly unique culture in terms of transportation and droids, and the violation of the barrier in the sky and the ability to break through it all overlap with the humanity within the walls of Paradis island.

There was definitely a Utopian - Tiger Parent atmosphere going on throughout this episode, which was a bit of a drag. As an adult, it kind of brought the kid version of you back into the fold with school being a bore at times and kids wanting to be kids. Hopefully the next episode has more of that adventure feel to it.

THIS SHOW TRANSPORTED ME BACK TO WHEN I WAS A KID! Like when I was in Kindergarten or 1st grade seeing the OG trilogy on tv or The Goonies. The tone and the vibe is sooo good so far! I do somewhat agree with people’s criticism of the suburb aesthetic for the first episode but it didn’t bother me as much as some people. Though I do wish they would have tried a little harder with some of the things that look like our current world l¡ike the street lines, the tram, etc. But I think it was unique and an interesting choice. I hope this show keeps it up because I love these first two episodes. That lil elephant kid Neel is adorable.🥰

Man. When Acolyte released, I stopped watching episode one after about 10 minutes and didn't go back for weeks. Skeleton Crew however got me to binge both episodes back-to-back. The amount of comments I've seen on other videos saying stuff like "It's too childish!" or "I hate the american suburbs setting!" Is just sad. I knew there was something off when I saw the American-inspired suburbs. As a European, the American suburb are pure evil... no offense to any suburbs watching.
@thedarkknight222118 сағат бұрын
I get that, there are SOME suburbs that are kinda creepy. But in Maine where I live, the suburbs look and are incredibly pleasant, particularly near or along the southern coastline. Plus the best seafood in the world.
@Kmbri17 сағат бұрын
Oh no this is a very interesting and debated take, that suburban america actually killed economic and environmental progress. I have a friend who is passionate about it and he has def made me think a bit differently.
@call_rickey17 сағат бұрын
Suburbs that have a mishmash of architectural styles and were slowly patched together over time ✅ Suburbs built as huge swaths of tract housing in the middle of open fields off major interstates ❌ (In all seriousness suburbs are largely the result of white flight from urban areas and the GI Bill which many POC, especially Black people, were locked out of benefitting from and bear a large portion of the responsibility for the impoverishment of the American city and its population)

When I saw the original trailer I thought it looked so-so, but a bit too childish. After watching this it definitely does have a childish feel to it...but the sort where it makes you feel like when you were a kid. This show definitely feels like Goonies meets Treasure Planet and I am all for that. The characters also don't feel like Disney trying to force something. That's been my main issue with the last few "Disney" Star Wars...the characters just don't feel like they belong and everything tries too hard. So far this cast feels like kids going off on an adventure. Other Disney Star Wars stuff tried to alter lore way too much whereas this genuinely feels like it's just its own little blip in the Star Wars galaxy. I'm sure the story will get bigger/deeper, but I don't think it'll get to the point where it could literally try to re-write canon events. I just want them to do Star Wars and add in fun stuff in its own little pocket-verse. So far so good because the first 2 episodes are really fun.

I DREAD this comments section. I liked these few opening episodes, but it’s either going to be the normal kiss-ass trolls who LOVED the Acolyte And the Sequels, and hate on everyone who rightfully VERY MUCH disliked them objectively , or the people who LOVED/HATED this opening to this series. I thought it was…ok. Positively meh. A step up. And down. Both. But god…there are 99% only shills or trolls out there it seems. So let’s see. Can Star Wars rise above the absolute gutter it’s in, thanks to current Lucasfilm? Time will tell. I have hope. But it’s likely a false hope.

Don't agree with The Last Starfighter reference - that's about a single _late teenager_ following a call to adventure. This is about a _group_ of _barely tween children_ falling into adventure. I like The Last Starfighter. This... is not for me, just like all those 80's flicks about kid groups doing stupid stuff. Horses for courses and all that.
