I installed the same ball joints on my '04 Outback LL Bean. I had to grind off about a mm around the top half because they didn't fit. But I made them fit, thank goodness.

I was using a 1/4 inch drive impact driver, but it wasn't strong enough to take off most of the stuff lol. Since then I got a 1/2 inch milwaukee impact which takes anything off

I am new to this kit. I was only able to install the outer tie rods. The ball joint seems to not fit in the spindle like the OEM. It is loose. Any advice?
@SWSpeedCo8 ай бұрын
I dont remember mine being loose so I'm not sure. Are you sure you got the correct kit for your vehicle?

@@SWSpeedCo I actually watched another video and realized that I have to relocate the cones from the OEM ball joint to the whiteline ball joint

why did you have to get a new tire rod? can you not reuse the old one?
@SWSpeedCo3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can reuse the old inner tierod, I just wanted to replace it while I was in there

So did you get the ball joint out?
@SWSpeedCo2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I got it out. They are never easy on subarus
@vannevels67582 жыл бұрын
@@SWSpeedCo yes, but how? It looks like you used an opening ball joint separator.
@SWSpeedCo2 жыл бұрын
I used the ball joint separator to disconnect it from the control arm. Then I loosely connected it to the control arm and removed the pinch bolt that holds in the ball joint and I pryed down on the control arm with a pry bar which removes it from the spindle

Pretty good, you can throw it into corners Pretty hard without the front suspension bottoming out. Made the front end feel a bit stiffer

@@SWSpeedCo any mods you reccomend for better straight line driving? Since I’ve owned my car I’ve had issues kind of swerving left and right at highway speeds

I would say that is probably more than likely an alignment issue

My car kind of tramlines a little bit on the freeway, and I think it's because I have 0 toe. If you have a little toe in I think that would help. The only other thing I could think of that would cause that is maybe ball joints or bushings. But you could also be used to the new car.

How the fuck did you get the tie rod adjustment nut and tie end off?! I've tried TOO many ways (PB Blaster, fire, freeze off, etc) to get them off but I CAN'T! Torque specs?
@SWSpeedCo2 жыл бұрын
For one side I couldn't get them off either. What I had to do was cut the inner tie rod shaft off at the threads so I could get an inner tie rod tool on it to remove the inner tie rod. That's why I replaced inner and outer tie rods at the same time because I had to cut one off. There is only a torque spec for the inner tie rod to steering rack and you can find it online or in the factory service manual

SMH...what not to do: using a extended socket without supporting the pivot point, and go beyond proven torque specs. You probably overtightened the bolt that you snapped.
@SWSpeedCo3 жыл бұрын
The bolt snapped when I was trying to remove it because it was rusty. Definitely didn't over tighten it
