To be fair Katara thought Zuko had changed and was actually somewhat nice to him when they were talking about there mothers in the crystal caves at the end of the book 2 but Zuko choose Azula side that Aeng almost died so its lot more understandable that she wouldn't trust him this second time around

Also Kataras personality is being the most gullible and trusting but also the most unforgiving. For example she was the one to trust jet. But she was the last willing to accept his help. She will trust you if you don't betray her.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Kitara is fully justified in being skeptical of Zuko plus she's even more emotionally scarred by the fire nation killing her mother than Sokka is.

One detail many people miss is when Sokka first approaches Suki in the prison, he's just trying to pull the same prank Suki pulled on him when he met her disguised as a guard in Serpent's Pass. I mean, it's still inappropriate, but he was just trying to reverse the joke on her.

I actually thought everyone get this at least when watching for the 2nd time, i got this at my FIRST time ever, and i still did'nt get everything, for exemple: i allways thought ozais face was only revealed over s2, but they did in the EP Zuko alone s2ep7, and i Just noticed last month

Everyone says Book 2 and 3 just get better every episode, and when you're watching Book 1 and already in love with the show you're like "how??" But then you see exactly how. The writing makes sense, and not in a trope-y "I know everything that's gonna happen" way, but in a way consistent with the journey our characters have been on. Watching Zuko fail to "switch sides" at the end of Book 2 is hard to watch and so frustrating as a viewer but makes complete sense in the story and makes his journey in Book 3 that much more satisfying and believable. It's so surreal to watch him interact with the Gaang in a "normal" way and the show let's us know they know it's awkward too, they don't just pretend everything is fine and normal now. I fucking love this show.

Katara has at least graduated from outright hostility toward Zuko (totally understandable given the broken trust), to some gentle teasing. And it even got a smile out of him! Like he always knew this wouldn't be an overnight transition with the whole group, but they're getting there 😊

Sokka blames himself for the failure of the invasion plan but TBH the plan was awesome. It was the Earth King who fucked the plan by telling it to people he didn't know if he could really trust. He needs to chill.
@hallieraymond Жыл бұрын
I cringe so hard at the way Sokka chooses to reunite with Suki-with a young girl in a prison where we've already SEEN the guards are abusive, still wearing the guard's helmet, making an advance. It's nightmare stuff, and worse, it's nightmare stuff she might've lived in a show written for an audience a few years older. But horrible moment aside, Zuko and Sokka are probably my favorite story pairing on the show, and it's such a shame they don't get a chance to play off one another except in this episode duo. Sokka's strategic skill works exceptionally well with Zuko's tactical strengths. In a way, it seems like Sokka is more himself in this episode with Zuko when he's not performing for the others (to live up to his expected role as group comedian, as seen in "Sokka's Master"), and Zuko is really the perfect person to support Sokka in his insecurity after his recent failure. There's also a great story of trust here in the subtext. Sokka ASKED Zuko for details about high-security Fire Nation prisons and expected to be told. And Zuko not only told him but volunteered to assist and protect him in infiltrating the prison and staging a breakout of his loved ones. Sokka feels he can trust Zuko for state secrets, and Zuko, without being asked, goes the extra mile, proving both exceptional courage and a deep commitment to the cause and his new friends. I mean, how on earth is Sokka ever supposed to distrust Zuko after this, when the man risked his life to go against his countrymen and break Sokka's loved ones out of prison?
@dafnid7294 Жыл бұрын
Apparently she also teased him like that when she was disguised, in the episode with the Serpent's pass? I don t remember it at all tho. And anyways, she is not weak emotionally or physically, she can handle some abusive guards, let then come lol
@hallieraymond Жыл бұрын
@@dafnid7294 , she did, and she's not. But there is a HUGE difference between a guard teasing a man in the open with his friends (including the Avatar) beside him and a guard teasing a woman alone in a PRISON cell. Also, just because she can handle potential attackers doesn't mean it wouldn't be TERRIFYING to have to do so at any moment. Finally, the fact that Suki's IN prison means that she has lost. What happens to her in the kind of situation Sokka initiates if Sokka ISN'T the guard, the guard DOESN'T love her, and she loses again? No. DON'T let them come. Are you kidding?! This is a kid's show, but in a coed prison with abusive guards, or in any kind of prison with abusive guards or lax guards, a girl like Suki would live in constant fear of assault. Even if nothing's happened to her before, or if she's stopped it happening every time before, that kind of fear is life-changing: traumatic and debilitating. And the optics of Sokka's advance on Suki in this situation show how young and comparatively innocent Sokka is. Her response of attacking him is completely justified, and in a similar situation, I would NOT have melted and gone all sweet the second he revealed his face but would have yelled at him and been furious for the next twenty minutes for that one moment of sickening fear, for making me associate someone I loved and something I'd been hoping for with something so awful even for a second. I get it's a kid show. They weren't trying to go this deep. They were trying to make a cute callback or a quick joke. Maybe I'm too sensitive, and I don't want to start something. But Suki deserved better. Women deserve better. Victims who have been in close quarters with authority figures attempting to abuse that power deserve better from this normally beautifully and subtly written show.
@dafnid7294 Жыл бұрын
@@hallieraymond I am obviously kidding, but she can take them on as she did with Sokka. Anyways, I just consider her way stronger than that and yeah she in prison from the war. She didn't lose to 2 or 3 guards she can teach them a lesson anyday. anyways, I get what you are saying so Ig he should have been clearer

This is one of the things that I really loved about these last few episodes before the finale. Redemption arcs are, of course, not at ALL unheard of. But for a show to actually give us episodes showing the person actually putting in the work to EARN the trust they're asking for, proving that they aren't villains anymore... so damn good.

What's so amazing about this show is that book three is incredible but the only reason its so amazing is because of every tiny detail and event in the other two seasons is what makes all of the events and character development and battles possible in book three because season one and two perfectly created and set the stage for the beautiful masterpiece that is the final season. And book three would be fun to watch still without the other two, but all of the depth and the reveals the the grandeur would be lost without the comparison of the other two.

👏 greatest parter of the series. You can't beat a good prison show. I tell ya, when that idiot grabbed the paneling I'm thinking does he not know how heat works? Is being a fire bender that good you think you can write-off all things hot. Lol, I should talk, got a near second degree burn from a glass lid 😢. And Sokka is at his best when he's improvising. There's only been one full episode since Zuko joined the group, so it hasn't been very long. Katara still being prickly towards him makes sense for the position her character is in and also just timeline-wise. We've also been Zuko's cheerleader for awhile now but the Gaang obviously doesn't have even close to the amount of context that we do. Someone else in the comments pointed out something pretty astute about Katara's character: She's actually pretty quick to trust someone, but when she's been burned once, she'll bar and protect herself fiercely. Jet's a good example of this. Even when she allowed him in to help them find Appa, she was still coarse towards him. And he didn't even do an ounce of what Zuko did to her.
