I haven't heard much people complaining about Zuko. Honestly, Zuko Carries this series. What they ruined was plotline, character arcs (Katara, Aang, Iroh) and basically bad writing, storyline and visual contradictions and inadvertently making the show more sexist without the lessons. They're like edging us with my cabbages but for new viewers it doesn't hit. The reason it was so funny from the animation was the fact it was happening as a B plotline and the rule of 3. Here they brought it to front and then built it up as if that'll connect new viewers. Shit like that. It's clear fan service but worse than the original. They got to sprinkle it out. The didn't show Azula manipulating Mai and Tai lee to join. They keep killing people in the throne room for some reason which is dumb af if you think it. Anyway, it's a decent show but I hope they get better writers and listen to criticism to improve the next season.

This season was good. But it could be a whole lot better. The good news is they have been greenlit for season 2 and 3. The show runner said that he has been watching and reading the critiques, and he agrees and is going to take those critiques into consideration and fix the lacking parts in seasons 2 and 3.

Cabbage man is king. I absolutely adore how dramatic they made him. He was the highlight of this ep and the Jet fight scene and zuko and aang... the acting of the main three isn't great...but iroh, zuko, jet do a great job. the actor who plays aang is super adorable i can't wait for him to get more experience cuz i think he could really kill it.

A lot of people have been dissing on this show over the report of front runners, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko leaving the project over "creative differences." It is a fake summation. Pretty obvious to see what those creative differences were. The animated shows were geared towards children. No one ever died. No curse words were ever spoken. This Netflix adaption is intended for a much broader, more adult audience. And I am totally down for it.

Michael and Bryan are actually credited as writers for episode 1 and 5! I think they actually wanted the darker tone to explore parts of the story that they never could do under Nickelodeon. I’ve heard the problem with creative differences actually was that they wanted to make even more drastic changes to the story and do more things that nickleodeon wouldn’t let them do since the animated show was geared towards kids. But Netflix wanted to stick to the original beats as much as possible. If that’s true I think it’s possible that we would’ve have gotten a very different retelling of the story if Mike and Bryan had their way. I think Netflix wanted to avoid upsetting the fans by straying too far away from the original.
