I actually love how bittersweet this movie was. Like, Victoria and Victor are cute, but he and Emily DEFINITELY have more chemistry. But it wasn't possible for him to be with Emily unless he died, and in the end she couldn't bring herself to let him lose his life prematurely. I still think Victor and Victoria will be happy in the long run, they'll grow and learn together, but I do think a part of Victor's heart will always belong to Emily.

@@LooDoesStuff Well okay then. I will. Anyone who is not interested can feel free to disregard this. In the first place- in terms of temperament, personality, and general outlook, Victor and Victoria have a lot more in common, and are a better suited match: that they are counterparts is suggested even by their names; whereas, while opposites can attract, Emily might, ideally, have done best with someone as vivacious and lively as herself. In the second place, while Victor, I believe, does come to be genuinely fond of Emily- cares about her, admires her, feels compassion for her- it is Victoria whom he is in love with. It is the thought of Victoria (represented by her flowers) that inspires him to say his vows so perfectly in the wood. It is Victoria to whom he confesses that he wishes to marry and be together with her always. He never once says anything like this to Emily. Even after bonding with Emily over the piano, his first thought is to get back to Victoria. And he is _devastated_ to hear that he is ‘Too Late’. It is then, *_and only then,_* once (he believes) all chance and hope for Victoria are lost, that he agrees to stay and commit to Emily. And after all, why not? There is nothing now left in the land of the living for him to go back to; his own dreams are dashed; maybe he can at least try and bring Emily some happiness. His promise once given, he is fully prepared in all honor to keep his word- the more especially to one who has already been so deeply wronged and suffered so much- even if it means passing up an unexpected second chance to wed the girl of his dreams. But, truly released to make his own choice, he does not refuse his freedom. He could have called on Emily to wait, could have insisted on going through with it, if that was where his heart lay. He does not. - He _chooses_ Victoria. And it is the correct decision. We may not get as much screen time getting to know Victoria; it is not her story. But the woman who fought tooth and nail to help Victor, or get him some help, who stood up to Lord Barkis so magnificently in informing him that there was no Money, is surely just as equally amazing in her own way, just as deserving of love and happiness, as the one whom we spend the movie building a bond of sympathy for. Sad as it is, Emily is right: she could never have found true peace in someone else’s stolen happiness.

A deleted song had Victor decide to marry Emily because his heart was broken because Victoria would be married away. So yeah, he loves Victoria and likes Emily as a friend and would have used her just to fill a hole not to be alone and give her at the same time what she wanted

I’m sure most people can relate to being hurt before and seeing the one they love run off into the sunset with someone else. Watching Emily let go and be at peace with herself was beautiful and relatable. Amazing film!

I think we spend so much of the movie with Emily that we end up rooting for her. I'm okay with Victor ending with Victoria because it's what Emily wanted. I think she steals the show for the whole movie so I always end up just rooting for what she wants. Also I always loved the piano duet scene it's so touching! I loved you reaction, it was very fun

It is sad, but Emily is right. She could never have found true peace in someone else’s stolen happiness. And yes- I have to suspect the reason we tend to end up rooting for Emily is simply because we spend so much more time with her. We tend to be less sympathetic to Victoria because we do not know her as well. It is not her story. -Victoria is a very different person, but from what we do get to see, I would say she is just as amazing, in her own way; I feel she is extremely underrated.

for myself, I would like to see more VictorxVictoria just for the sake of seeing how they will interact after they are married. we saw Victor take the lead for the wedding and being more commanding than he was with his parents. Victoria literally climb out her window with her bed sheets and seems quite bold when her parents aren't hovering around. I curious if their real personalities are going to mesh or clash

When I first watched this, I did want victor with Emily. I loved their friendship and connection with each other and I liked how he did choose her later on in the film. But the more I rewatch it, it would suck if he died down there. Also, Victoria does need and want him too. She respects him and believes him when everyone else doesn’t. They are so sweet too. The ending is a realistic one. Victor helped, maybe unintentionally, Emily move on. She was able to get the closure she actually needed. Once she let go and accepted what happened to her and killed her ex, she was happy. Victor and Victoria can fet married, escape their families, and be hapoy tigether too. The good people got what they wanted and needed in the end.

I do hope Hailey and Stella get to participate in your Future Animator Reacts reactions considering outside of their _Corpse Bride_ reaction and their participation in the group’s reaction to _Klaus_ they haven’t reacted to any animated films on the channel. Now Granted, the Animator Reacts series is just primarily just James (You) and Nobu doing the reactions, but I wouldn’t mind if Hailey and Stella get to be in more group reactions outside of your Thursday group reactions such as your Animator Reacts. Heck, I wouldn’t mind if the girls do their own Animated movie reactions much like how they’ve been doing separate reactions on Saturdays to the various Horror and now Sci-Fi films.

Ok I've said it before somewhere but here goes, the "would never marry you" scene. The hardest part is both Victor and Emily are right! He married her, although by accident. And he would never marry her, not because of herself, but because he would never marry a corpse. Still he didn't find the best way to state it, like you said, he's not used to speaking up.

It's a little unfair to Victoria to compare them as she had so little time with Victor by comparison. In the extremely brief moments we saw them together they seemed to get on well and though they were both being forced into an arranged marriage, once they met each other they seem to have lost much of their apprehension about the possibility of not liking the other, and instead of being resolved to go through with the marriage, appear to have been happy enough. Victor's continued apprehension seems to have been about performing in front of people, not the actual marriage - during the rehearsal he seemed earnest to let Victoria know that despite mistakenly saying he didn't want to, he really did. He spent a LOT more time with Emily and so Victoria was always going to come up short by comparison, even more so because this is Emily's story, not Victoria's.

victor and victoria were the better match. this movie is about the corpse bride moving on. victor helped her do that. victor and emily didn't have more chemistry, they just spent more screen time together. that piano scene with victor and victoria shows that they are both clearly interested in one another. plus victoria went out of her way to try to help victor and got locked in her room TWICE!! victor spent most of the movie thinking about victoria and he only agreed to marry emily when he heard that victoria was marrying someone else.

I do wish we had ONE more scene of Victor and Victoria prior to him "marrying" Emily. Like after the rehearsal fiasco, Victoria follows him and she tries to give him a bit of encouragement and that his clumsiness won't change how she feels about him. Maybe even a brief musical number inserted in there. THEN the marrying the corpse thing happens.

This movie is a fave of mine. The subversions of having Emily be a charismatic sweetheart, and the world of the dead basically being an eternal dance party are super enjoyable to me! Plus the aesthetic is dope to me. Side note: there’s a good chance I’dve gone to the world of the dead to be with Emily… but I’m a crazy gay that way, so no shade to Victor from me. 🤷‍♀️😂

Yes I think Victor and Emily had more of a connection, but I think that is because she is already dead, she is no longer answerable to society's constraints (the underworld is happier and brighter deliberately compared to the land of the living) so there is no guarantee that had they met when Emily was alive that they would have the same connection as they would still be motivated by the rules and constraints of the living and the society they lived in, and still likely controlled by their families. Personally I think that Emily is a representation of the person Victoria could be without those constraints (for example she wanted to learn the piano but wasn't allowed, whereas Emily was.) The chemistry that Emily and Victor had is entirely possible now that Victor and Victoria's families cannot control them like before. They have both grown and will grow to have a good relationship I feel (I mean Victor went back to see Victoria and only decided to go through with the wedding with Emily when he found out that Victoria was marrying someone else, telling him in his mind that she didn't feel the same about him.)

You guys missed the most important (and saddest) part of the jazzy backstory song, (but it is a bit blink and miss); Emily was actually killed by her groom to be, she didn't get left at the alter or die of a broken heart....but she/her body did get left after bing murdered. No grave. No funeral. After she woke up as a corps, she vowed to stay where she fell in death until "someone put a ring on it", so instead of hanging out in the afterlife, she stayed in the woods, for years, unevenly exposed to the elements; that's why she has like a skeleton leg, and one still w flesh. Then Victor comes along, confusing her frozen frostbitten hand as a branch, as he continues his redo of the night......and puts a ring on it. The rest, including her murderer, is history.

Someone pointed this out before- But another thing that was probably missed was that Emily said that she was "left for dead" meaning she was still half-alive after Lord Barkis attempted to murder her. So she just died slowly in the woods

That was the last Emily ever saw of her family after that.

The thing is that Victoria and Emily met Victor for the first time in the same day. Emily had more time with Victor, so obviously they would have more action. What would've been a bit more.... something, is if Victoria jumped in front of Victor, Emily stands up to her death and that sets her free, leaving her bouquet behind and in depression, he joins Victoria in death. Victoria becomes the new 'corpse bride' and they live their life together if this was a bit more of a TRAGIC MOVIE

This is written similarly to Casablanca, the right thing is for Victor and Victoria to be married and Emily to go away just as Victor and Ilsa fly away and Rick stays to see them off. Still, the audience wants to see Victor & Emily and Rick & Ilsa together. Also, the skeleton dance section in this movie plays homage to Disney's black and white animation from 1929 "Skeleton Dance."

9:22 - the expression on your face as Victor “retrieves” the ring… LOL! Oh, by the way, you can see a picture of Scraps (“with fur”) and Little Victor, for a second or two, at the very opening of the movie. Re; Victor’s feelings- I believe he sincerely likes and cares about Emily… as a friend. He feels compassion for all that she’s been through. But it is Victoria whom he wishes to be with, always; it is she who is the better match- in personality, outlook, and temperament-- his soulmate and counterpart. We spend a lot more time getting to know Emily. We don’t see nearly as much of Victoria: it is not her story. I believe that is the only reason why the ‘chemistry’ does not seem as strong for her with Victor as with Emily, and why she does not tend to strike us as being every bit as amazing a woman-- she simply does not get as much screen time.

Only reason why Victor and Emily had more chemistry is because he was literally dragged to the underworld where he had no other choice but to interact with Emily. Victor and Victoria on the other hand have never met before (Emily too) and only spent that small time at the piano and the wedding rehearsal where they couldn't be themselves. Lets not forget that Victor chose to go to Victoria instead of his parents and where he admitted his true feelings for her. In the very small time Victor and Victoria had together I feel like they were better together than he was with Emily. They actually cared for one another and the only reason why Victor agreed to marry Emily was because of the news he heard that Victoria was getting married to that other guy. Also you can't hate on Victoria for not helping Victor in the fight cause she literally can't do anything without putting herself in harms way whereas Emily could cause she was already dead.

I think Emily was still trapped in the world of the living as a corpse , once she was married she was in a sense released and could go to the land of the dead . Once she let go of the idea of marriage and gave Victor up , she was set free

As an adult rewatching this movie realizing that Victoria was conceived from hate fucking because her parents don’t even like each other. Also yeah I believe the worm is modeled after Peter Lorre.

i may be biased by how much i love this movie, but the character design in this is just top notch excellent. carlos grangel, the character designer, also worked on eris from sinbad and moses in the prince of egypt!! and its also part of the reason i hate frankenweenie so much --the character design there just feels like a bad copy of the ones from this movie

I made 3 characters made for corpse bride. Here is the events with the characters in it Izzy (11) and John (16) are living descendants. Anna (also 16) was hired as Izzy’s babysitter and end up being John’s girlfriend. In the year, 2005. Izzy and John parents were going out to a party. They thought that John was going to go out to play with his band but he told them that one the them was ill. Did you tell them that they did call a babysitter to mind Izzy all those she was upstairs drawing. Izzy discovered the big book and a ring of a necklace, it was a Family Album, Izzy showed it to her dad and he told her that it been in the family for decades and points to a photo of Victor. Shortly after the parents leave Anna to the door and meet John. Izzy was going to sneak out to explore when a blue butterfly appeared in her bedroom. She tried to catch it but unlucky. The butterfly landed on the floor and Izzy jumped at it, unfortunately she missed it. Suddenly she felt the ground shaking, and then she fell through the floor and saw a black tunnel. She cried and Anna and John ran upstairs and tried to save her. Izzy felt something pulling her in, unfortunately all three fell right it and slide down until they landed in a forest. Confused and a bit scared. They decide to find anyone who can help them return homes. The three arrived at a town but noted how odd and old fashion everyone was. Anna came to realised that they end up travelling through time. As John and Anna discussed, Izzy saw a face in a carriage that looked familiar. She followed it with John and Anna chased after her. They entered into the house where they’ve seen their ancestors. They were questioned, but said that they were here for the wedding from what they were hearing about. As soon as the adults went into the other room. Izzy introduce herself to Victor, who was more nicer than the adults were. They say that they were lost, but couldn’t say that they were related. As Victor played the piano, they met Victoria and the kids the knew that they were a perfect match. After Mrs Everglow found them, they headed into the wedding practice, is Eva, who is completely bored and asked Anna questions, which she was told off by. The kids felt sorry for Victor as he was struggling and Izzy disliked lord barkes (or lord poohead as Izzy called him). Things turned into chaos when Victor dropped the ring. Victor ran off after being told off, Izzy, Anna and John followed him to comfy him. The four walked toward the woods, the three kids encouraging him, and tell him to think of what’s more important. He said he vovs to a t and put his ring on a stick. They felt the wind changed and crows staring down at them. Suddenly, the stick grad Victor’s hand. The kids pulled on him until they freed him. When the ground opened up, they’ll freeze on the spot. They could only watch as the Corpse bride aroused. All four ran for their life’s. They reached the bridge, freaked out and out of breath. The kids had began to walk back into town but when they turn to find Victor, the corpse bride was right next to him. Izzy ran to stop her with Anna and John shouting to Izzy to stop. Just as Izzy reached Victor, they were engulfed by the crows. The next thing Izzy knew she was surround by dead people. She found Victor who is freaking out. Izzy tried to calm him but bumped into him when she saw the Corpse bride standing behind her. They discovered the Victor is married to the dead woman and this wasn’t a dream. Wow, everyone else is enjoying this song about Victor’s new wife. Izzy pulled Victor out of the pub and find a way out. Meanwhile, Anna and John are searching for Izzy and Victor in the land of the dead. It didn’t take long to find two who quickly explain why happened but they stop because the corpse bride is on their tracks. All four reached a dead end so Victor climbed but his new wife was here. Izzy,Anna and John found the stairs and quickly joined the couple. They introduced themselves to Corpse bride (who they know now as Emily) and she gave Victor a present which was his dog scrapes. Izzy fall in love with the dog because she always wanted a dog but couldn’t because their dad was allergic. Victor then revealed that he knew they from a different time and promised to keep their secrets, Emily was happy to meet Victor’s relatives that made Victor think of a plan. He said about going to meet his parents in the living world. At first, the kids thought he gone mad but he secretly tell them that it will help them get out to the living world. When they reach Elder goodNick and was the spell, they returned to living world. Victor and the kids headed to back town while CB waits. The kids wanted to go to the police but Victor needed to see Victoria. They relented and help him up. John and Anna tried to find help as Izzy followed a butterfly.suddenly all three found CB appeared on the balcony. Izzy climbed up and when she reached the top, it was so late. Victor and the kids were putting back, they tried to explain but it went from bad to worse. John tried to comfort his sister who missing their parents and Anna tried to think of something. All feel bad about what they done to CB. They had were sleeping when Izzy heard Emily playing the piano. She peeked in as Victor join CB, as they played, Anna and John join Izzy as their listen. The kids joined the couple and apologised. Izzy announced that John wrote a song about the corpse bride (the song is Transylvania by McFly). How do you know where the other dead people appeared at the pub and Victor,John and Izzy heard the news about Victoria. The siblings knew that if victor didn’t marry Victoria, they would be erased from history. They soon found out that if Emily wants Victor to stay in the land of the dead, he will have to die, and Victor agrees to it. Izzy told him what would happen to them butthey respected his wishes. The couple announced their wedding in the living world. Victor asked John to be his best man and Anna and Izzy were be bridesmaids. In the church, up above the three kids watch the wedding play out, knowing that time was running out for them. Even though Anna would return to their own time, she won’t remember what has happened. Especially does she develop feelings for John and he feels the same. Izzy was so sad, knowing she will never her mum and dad again but things change when Emily changed her mind and Victor and Victoria to be together. Lord pooface suddenly appeared and they discovered that he killed Emily. After the kids helping Victor fight lord pooface. Izzy stood between Victor and lord pooface, shied her friend. Lord pooface nearly drove the sword into the girl but the corpse bride took it. Protecting Izzy. Lord pooface toasted and drank the poison that was meant for Victor and die, taken away by the dead. See you later, Victoria and the kids happy CB leave after saying goodbye. Izzy ran out first as the corpse bride turned into butterflies. Victor, Victoria, John and Anna joined her and watched butterflies fly into the night sky. The Kids suggest to the couples to get married in the church straight away, they had a small celebration back in victor’s home is telling about their stories. The next day, the five woken by Victor’s parents. banding on the door soon followed by Victoria’s parents, they told the adults that lord pooface had put something in the food and drink to make them hallucinate and Izzy reveal the recording of Victorias parents out loud. The new married couple announced that they would be leaving and start a new life far away. Later on the bridge, Victor and Victoria says their goodbye the children and Victor lets Izzy keep Scrapes knowing how close they were. Izzy explained that is was the butterfly that send them back in time and another one which send them to the their own time, with one that they’re found on Izzy’s hair. They jumped through the hall and returned to the present. The rest of that night was chatting and researching until Izzy and John’s parents came home. Anna leave after she and John kiss and Izzy and Scrapes were ready for bed when she found the butterfly again. She did think that the butterfly was CB and the set it free out the window. They will never forget that day for the rest of their lives.

I absolutely ADORE this movie with all my heart 💕 I think I commented this on the other reaction but this was the theme for my 16th birthday party 👌🏻 love it. I do think that personality wise I liked what Emily did for Victor and how she brought out the best in him 👌🏻 such a nostalgic movie for me ❤

thanks to a childhood fear of the Haunted Mansion (and thus ghost brides) I thought I would be terrified of this movie for some reason but I love it. It's probably one of my favorite Tim Burton movies and I LOVE all the characters in the land of the dead and their designs especially.

You guys should check out 'Megamind' if you haven't already. Saying its underrated has almost become untrue due to so many people liking it now but when it came out it was competing with Despicable Me and people accused it of ripping that movie off. (it came out second but was written and production started first so if anything...)

This is certainly an underated movie. It's not perfect but it's still a good movie. My only complaint is that the moment where the bride becomes butterflies. I just thought it was dumb and cheesy and kinda out of place. But still I like this movie I like the protagonist Victor and the side characters. And even the score (Which I had a feeling it was the Elfman himself and I was right glad he did it) and also the twist/antagonist another thing the old skeleton wizard is played by the same person who played Alfred in the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher Batman movies may he rest in piece. Overall other than that one moment it's a good movie, one of my favorite movies, and a good Tim Burton movies too 8/10...

I'm on Victoria team😂 Victor and Victoria are clearly in love romantically. With Emily, Victor is kind and care for her, but I think it's more like a friend or sister to him. This is the only love triangle that I love though. It's so bittersweet and either team we're on, we still care for the other girl.

I'm the same Stella, this movie is just rippy bits to me. I need to sit and give it a sincere watch. But from what I can tell it's sweet and really cute in a grim kind of way. And Emily all the way, sometimes it's just gotta be what's obvious. And I usually applaud when the obvious choice isn't taken so it's shocking to see it not be the case. I think Burton is for me, I was never that ooh princess girl. I was.. she's pretty.. she'd make a great victim in my murder mystery game. I was probably the only little girl getting in trouble over how she played with her Barbies 🙄😁. Ya know, I didn't like Frankenweenie.. I don't know what went wrong but to me it just sank like a stone. Recommendations: Scoob. Boxtrolls. Though it isn't stop motion or even animated Goodnight Mommy

Trust me, every little girl has done something questionable to a barbie doll. I very much was an "ooh princess" girl as you put it, but I also used to tie my barbies up, hang them by the neck (using mini-nooses) and just leave them to be found in various macabre tableaus, much to my parents' consternation. Every time I see this movie a part of me does wish that Victor had ended up with Emily after they saved Victoria as they had more chemistry together then Victor & Victoria. I know the two of them will be happy together & Emily wouldn't have let Victor go through with marrying her as she would feel like he was being forced into but I also feel like they did the ending they did because it was a kids movie. They couldn't just let Victor go through with drinking the poison so this was the next best ending even if a part of Victor's heart will always be with Emily
