I don't wear camo, use scent blockers, or hunt by moon phases. I put in a few weekends of scouting, do lots of glassing, put on a good stalk into the wind, and fill my freezer. I have never noticed any moon-related changes to rutting behavior.

Yea I'm going to have to say that crap. Its been proven on more than one study that the moon has nothing to do with the rut, only the activity of the deer. Secondly I live in NC our rut runs from east to west with the difference between the peak of the coast and the mountains nearly a month apart. That's four different "sweet spots" in my state. I have come to the conclusion that all these guys are about as accurate as the local weatherman. Hunt as much as possible as close to the rut as you can. There is no one size fits all when it comes to the rut. The only way to get a big buck is to be in the woods. Good hunting and God bless.

just be in the woods every chance you can between October 28th and November 30th every year. In Kentucky I see most my big bucks between October 31st to November 14th. Then again in December when I jump them while rabbit hunting, LOL.

Photoperiod(The amount of daylight) determines the rut and when the does come into estrous. Bucks are ready to breed anytime after losing their velvet, but the does really determine the rut, but the girls aren’t ready until late October early November.

question. do cows eat wheat grains? i have a big pile and was considering putting some out in one of my areas where i have my cams set. i can't even put salt in front of my cams because our crown land if full of cows, all the ranchers are allowed to set their cattle loose on to crown land to free-range all summer and fall. if i put salt out, the cows move in and set up camp in front of my cam. would they be attracted to the wheat as well? i'm guessing yeah.

The rut takes place every year at the same time, weather determines how much daylight movement takes place, if its warm most of the action is at night, cold front are awesome for daylight movement, not just during the rut

On the coastal Marsh in South Louisiana the rut can be early as late August , September, frickin hot, so fawns are dropped when it's not hot.. I've read that fire ants can do extreme harm, blind, kill fawns, ,,not to mention Gators. other areas in Louisiana can have a 2 month difference only 20 miles apart due to annual flooding of the Mississippi River. Mamma nature!

To us average working class hunters, There's about 10% "truth"to all that & 90% "buy our product" !!! Let's face it boys, we still go, even if it does affect the deer, it doesn't affect us, we still go !! We can't change the hunting season dates to accommodate to the moon or ?? We still go, Especially us gun only hunters, we have the 2nd week of November, and on the Eastern Shore that's usually the peak rut. I used to follow the moon phase & Temps, and wonder what times or even if I should go, I still went, regardless !! ( Yeah I didn't hunt Saturday, wrong moon, so I strategically went this morning, and bam, figured that buck out ) BULLSHIT!! In short, by 6:55 I was down & so was my biggest buck to date, 12 pnt that field dressed 237 lbs shot at 6:23 at 25 yards & at 6:36 a nice wide high 8 pnt, that dressed 187 lbs. at 44 yards, all because of a mature hot doe was in the area ( I missed her at 32 yards, but we won't go there ) H&R 20 gauge tack driver !!! so if it's a ??? Moon or it's Hot, Cold, windy or blah blah blah JUST GO !!!!!!

There is not one scientific study which proves the moon has any effect on rut. Doe go into estrus for 24-48hr depending on photoperiod, day length not the moon. Now this can vary from doe to doe however Many universities and biologists have done studies on road killed doe fetuses and measured said fetuses, and for example like the state of Pennsylvania there is a baseline or an average and that is always mid November. This is generally accurate for our geographical area. And from this we can conclude when the other phases of Rut will generally come in. Deer are not going to change their biology because of some gimmick or myth.
