@bradyoder5899

I used two rows of electric fencing this year with great success. The outside fence was 1 inch polytape and the inside row was two strands of polywire, one about 10 inches from the ground and the other almost at the top. I am definitely impressed how well it has kept the deer out. Do skimp on a good fencer. You have to knock down tbe stuff that touches your wires or it will take some juice from your fencer.

So the question is can you use buckwheat the following year or what? Do plots have to be established before you can use buckwheat to aid?

I maintain about four acres of food plots and all of them are getting completely overrun by water hemp.. which apparently is also a big problem for farmers because of its resistance to glyphosate and outlasting pre-emergent chemicals. Curious how to prevent this from happening next year and whether I can salvage some plots this year. Is there a summer maintenance video for weed control. From watching previous videos i think he would say only add winter rye to brassica if you are giving up on the brassica. So if the brassica is eaten down to dirt then you could plant winter rye as a replacement crop, not “in addition to” the brassica since the brassica won’t survive with the rye competition.

Jeff, appreciate all the advice I got one main question. I hunt in big woods of southern Ohio no ag around just some hay fields. I frost seeded clover plots into the my no till brassica blends from last fall. They are hammering it this summer and I am holding the bucks I had all fall. Would you till under the white clover and plant brassica or would you leave it as clover or would you spray it and broadcast the brassica mix?

You had mentioned including clover in mixes in the past...specifically with the brassicas. Do you still recommend doing that and why/why not?

Awesome video as always. Were you working around with Dylan? Seems you were moving back and forth a lot, and he was trying to center you in the video.

Great information Jeff. I’m starting a new food plot in a recently cleared timber area. I’d like to start with buckwheat but don’t want to till. Can you use your no till method to plant buckwheat? Do you simply broadcast and cultipack the seed into the hard ground?

You can lay buck wheat on top of the soil, just get the weeds out, you can watch/look up Jeffs no till video!

Have you ever tried the plot saver fence, I put that on my forage soybeans, and they haven’t touched it, what do you think about me taking off the fence 3 weeks before season

I'm surprised you do not utilize Chicory in your plots. I have had great success using Chicory in WI and perennials offer bang for buck.

Not sure what happened, but my buckwheat did not take in one of my plots at all. Had rain right after planting and the others are doing well, but this plot is very sporadic with great seed to soil contact. Also, what setting are you putting your spreader at for the brassica blend?

I have a couple fields that are grown up and get bushhogged every august. I want to plant them this year with annual clover and rye. Was gonna disk after bushhogging since there is and will be quite a bit of duff. Is this a bad idea? Don’t have equipment and have a friend with atv helping out with an atv sprayer and pull behind spreader for lime.

Trying the no till this year. Its a little tough with a member of the family who controls the keys to the property to follow your methods. He insists to still plow and disc. So far the little plot we are using the buckwheat on has been having alot of grazing pressure and may be only knee high. We are expanding plots though for the next year and still adding some. In September we intend to plant rye over our whs blend, but also in a .5 acre plot plant clover.

Another awesome video! When spreading sweat feast into clover, should I also roll and spray with glyphosate just like with the ultimate no-til?

I don't have enough property to do Big Lots like that how do you feel about putting corn in little 4 foot by 5 foot plats in your Brassica plot just for a little structure to make them feel like they're not so much out in the open

Jeff, I am planting WI Winter Greens late summer in a small plot I cleared on a wooded hillside. I’ll definitely let everyone here know how it goes and how long through the winter it sustains.
