11:53 !!!!!!! I was written up and ended up being fired because I was “too negative.” No matter what I did or tried, I wasn’t ever able to be positive enough for my boss bc she was the epitome of toxic positivity. I asked her what she thought I should be doing, and all she ever said was “think positive thoughts and good things will follow.” She didn’t like that I was telling her (or anyone else) about all of these issues that needed to be addressed, because she didn’t know how to address them and she wanted corporate to think she was the best manager (bc there were no issues as far as they were concerned). I wish more people talked about toxic positivity especially in the workplace. This was great

It seems to me, our overblown positivity existed long before modern times. A cursory review of fashion through the centuries (codified in portrait painting), displays a rich legacy of inflated praise - perfected by the courtier (celeb posse). I imagine our neolithic ancestors, huddled in a cave, praised the great hunter, as he drew his fanciful exploits. I think positivity has always been the safe choice in mixed company. No one has ever been beheaded for positive feedback (though the hint of insincerity can be a buzz kill). Personally, I would probably be the first person voted off the island. Reciprocity is a tangled web of desire.

I wasn't depressed for the first time in my life and that feeling of calm and joy is what I wanted more of. As soon as the stupid "universe/god" saw that I was doing things that make me happy for first time in my life in it's arrogance and narcissism, it decides to sweep in and sh***t all over my joy just to prove to me and itself that it's more superior, higher, mightier and more powerful than me hence put me in situations that are conducive to relapses in the name of passing it off as being "wise and loving". The universe is neither wise nor is it loving, it's just full of BS and over eager and turned on by creating unnecessary emotional chaos, turmoil and drama. I don't have time for it's LOA BS and toxic positivity being marketed as love and wisdom

I'm generally sympathetic to the ideas in this, but when she got to the "woke" part, I stopped watching. Maybe I'll finish it later, but at this point it's tainted.

Isn’t toxic positivity mostly a women thing?

Too funny. Guys originated victory parades, pack mentality ("Dude you'll slay him.") and too many ass kissing empires to count. Positivity = ego stroking in the old bro network.

It is women who are culturally expected to smile more and be agreeable. Men will ask women they don't even know to "smile" in public places. Anyone can get caught in putting on the "everything's great" fascade....but there is a cultural expectation for female to smile and appear agreeable. 😄
