When Whitney and Mariah released 'When You Believe' for the Prince of Egypt soundtrack, the world really got to hear the differences in their voices. It's so easy to mistake two singers as sounding similar when you listen to two separate solo songs but hearing two voices together gives you a real point of distinction between the two individual tones and timbres of the vocalists.

Music industry can be tough for a vocalist like her, especial in pop industry at her time. It's all fine when you're a up and coming musician. Labels will give you as many resource as it need, best producer, every chance of publicity, you name it. But it's all changed once your popularity declines. They will pull away resource that you'll have less chance to get publicity and production value of your music drops. Then, you popularity drops even further. And when you're washed up, they will milk you dry by giving you a lot of small gigs which doesn't really make a lot. It burns you out. Occasionally, someone who facing decline in the industry will resort to regain his/her popularity by utilizing negative publicity which is making negative and controversial news to invoke public debate and staying relevant. So, I think in this environment, stopping isn't all that bad.

Women are always compared 🤔 not trying to be that person but I don't tend to see that as much with male Talent, they get to exist within their own when it comes to singers. Now it's basketball and other things I see that so perhaps I'm overlooking it when it comes to this area.... Like you said they're distinctively their own and should be able to exist in greatness as INDIVIDUALS instead of trying to lock somebody in as great and the other "the shadow" of that great.. @@craigfurlow7692 Of course, she was not lying. She was speaking her truth. But it was very mean. But some people practice not talking about others at all in private. I just can't imagine Celine Dion trashing anyone, even Jennifer Lopez who CAN'T SING or whomever else. I agree with you, we all make mistakes (considering gossipping is assumed to be private thing, but that does not mean we should do it, so I do consider this a baddy on Whitney's part, but I don't hold that against her. I was just stating that she has shaded... just a few times). Anyways what matters to me is that Whitney Houston and Celine Dion loved each other very much; they were not friends, they only met a few times, I'm sure, nothing more. But there was love. Whitney has NEVER considered herself to be superior to others, which I do acknowledge. Neither Mariah, nor Celine, nor Barbra Streisand saw themselves as superior (Aretha Franklin is a whole other story). And Whitney Houston always had an open heart to other artists. She said in an interview with MTV that she loves listening to the human instrument in everyone.

To be very specific, Whitney and Mariah were not actually compared, but only pitted against each other because they were peers (who sang the same type of songs). There was no copying of any kind. Before Ariana however, Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis were all compared to Mariah-and they all are from different generations. And generation after generation this would continue to happen, because Mariah has become the standard that everyone wants to be and copies. You literally can't name any other artist who is *simultaneously* one of the greatest voices of all time and is one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

You can't ever really say that, that are tons of different voices across various genres, and not all singers can do them. The closest people to having the greatest voices, would be those with a voice capable of entering eithet genre, and I don't see either whitney or mariah belting like a rockstar. Freddie Mercury or Dio now those are two who could sing anything.

She's right up there, as others have said, her singing here is almost effortless. Personally, I put Brandy Norwood above her and Mariah. Brandy's vocal range is so insane, even the Red Hot Chilli Peppers admitted to imitating it through guitar!

This woman should have been protected at all costs. She was a national treasure! I wonder why her family or team didn't do more to help her. It seems like they let her self destruct.

I feel you but sometimes when people go down hill in RELATIONSHIPS it is hard to get them out. To them you don't know what they know, see what they see or feel what they feel so they will not listen to you. Ears to hear and the ability to listen is worth more than Gold.

Whitney carried her siblings on her shoulders. No one stopped her because they were afraid that if they did then she would cut them off leaving them to fend for themselves. Her brother said in an interview that he was the first to introduce Whitney to crack. They only cared about themselves and Pat Houston also none of them would’ve had anything if it wasn’t for Whitney especially her. Pat talked about Whitney so bad in interviews but now she’s over Whitney’s estate 🤦🏾‍♀️Bobby’s relationship with Whitley only was a part of her downfall because he liked getting high just as she did so they enabled one another but there’s also so many things like being taken advantage of that’s caused for her demise. She was truly something special but sadly the world didn’t protect her
