Hi coach I want to ask, what are the takedowns/throws in wrestling?
@KOLATCOM
@KOLATCOM Жыл бұрын
There are thousands of takedowns and throws in wrestling. Can you be more specific? Are you asking about the difference between takedowns and throws?
@al-zx1qf
@al-zx1qf Жыл бұрын
@@KOLATCOM yes coach, What's the difference between a takedown and a throw, and which one is more effective, coach?
@KOLATCOM
@KOLATCOM Жыл бұрын
@@al-zx1qf Takedowns are a set of actions that award points for gaining control of your opponent by taking him to the mat and establishing rear control. Throws are a subset within the takedown set. However, in Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling you can be awarded points for a throw which exposes your opponents back without achieving takedown control. In Folkstyle wrestling it is very rare to receive back points for throws without gaining takedown control but it appears that there is a newer rule allowing this in NCAA wrestling. Now to answer your main question. The most effective takedowns consistently seen in high level competition are single legs, double legs, front headlocks and go behinds. Pretty much the most basic takedowns available. Throws are not a high percentage move and are rarely seen when competitors are highly skilled and on equal footing. The most basic throws are also the most highly used throws. Arm throw, head and arm, lateral drop. If you are a beginner you should focus on setups for leg attacks and defense for leg attacks. When you have these down then you can start adding throws. Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any follow up questions. Thanks for asking!

Wow man this is a great sneaky one out of the back pocket. Should one still proceed with this if he goes to a seat belt grip after stepping over the leg?
@KOLATCOM
@KOLATCOM Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Keeping the whizzer locked over the arm on your leg will prevent him from coming up to a seatbelt. If he does get a seatbelt hold you will need to hip in to get him off your leg and then work to square up. Ankle capture is off the table at that point.

Hey coach Kolat Im a high school wrestler whose main moves consist from the over-under position, but I can't seem to get it in a match as much as I want to Do u have any tips?
@KOLATCOM
@KOLATCOM Жыл бұрын
You can't rely on one position to open a guy up, especially not the over under. A lot of high school wrestler are afraid of going upper body so they are taught to stay out of the over-under. You need to develop other ties and setups with leg attacks (2 on 1, Collar Tie, Arm Drag, Reverse Wrist, Underhook, Snap, Shuck, Tricep Pull, etc.) If you do this you will have greater success and still be able to work your over-under when it is there.

@@KOLATCOM thank for the advice coach 👍 By the way, I'm a very explosive wrestler but u can't seem to transfer my speed into wrestling. Do u know what I can do?
@KOLATCOM
@KOLATCOM Жыл бұрын
@@ProfessorP3 In wrestling speed is all about timing. When your opponent is setup for a shot by making him step to you, you will get to the leg clean and fast if you time it right. Muscle and power of course helps but if you already have that you need to add better timing and setups.

Is that kick legal for U10 in USAwrestling (freestyle)? I’ve never seen that before.
@KOLATCOM
@KOLATCOM Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is legal in freestyle. Although we call it a kick it is not a kick with impact which would be illegal. This is a push with the foot - you should make contact with the body and then give it a hard shove this will avoid any impact on your opponent.

Keep training and competing year round. Find teammates who want to train and travel with you to tournaments. Look for open mat training days at local high schools and colleges to get new partners and diversify your training. Go to Freestyle and Greco tournaments to get more experience and a leg up on the competition during off season. This all will help you immensely when folkstyle season rolls around.
