Oh yeah, never take the vibe of the subreddit of a competitive game as truth. It's ALWAYS significantly worse than the actual gameplay is, it's just that competitive people don't like losing and people like to complain about "unfair" things when it's just that they fairly lost to them. It's been a thing on every message board since at least EverQuest days. Game is fun, and Booby Trap along with a few freeze properties can get real silly. Triple multicast Snow Globe next to an Igloo and one other Property is a LOT of freeze.

The question about whether the 5% crit chance would go better on bolas or jitte was weird. Does he not understand that +5% crit chance is basically just +5% damage? 5% more damage always goes on whatever does more DPS. The amount of total crits isn't relevant unless you have an item that benefits when you crit. But anyway, assuming both items have the same attack speed, it doesn't really matter which you put it on. It's the same raw average crits per second. The difference is that putting it on two weapons means you have potential to get MORE crits, but also potential to get less crits. It's basically just less consistency overall. But since bolas both had higher dps and higher attack speed, it is the correct choice, unless you plan on relying on jitte scaling up.
