I can stress this enough, I love that you are doing this series. One idea tho: if some cards don't relate directly to some other cards, try to find connections through the variants (1602, steampunk, noir and so on). I feel there are sometimes some really good connections to be talked about.

I’d argue that Beta Ray Bill’s translation into Marvel Snap works a bit more than you give it credit, because being a higher energy means he is not just Thor but stronger, he requires more investment. At a lower cost, Thor is more likely the better card. You have more turns to find your hammer when played on curve, his lower cost allows him to hit the field sooner so you can still play your other 4-cost card, and a static power boost means he is not ruined by negative power. Thor is the more consistent team player. Beta Ray Bill emulates Thor, but is more volatile. He tries to be the stronger Thor, but has the chance of failings when things go wrong. I feel that this is similar to how they handled Green Goblin and Hobgoblin. Both have negative power and move to the opponents side, and you would expect Green Goblin to be the one with more negative power, but he isn’t. However, because Green Goblin is the 3-cost instead of the 5-cost, he is often the better card for what he is trying to do - ruin your opponents plan. Green Goblin is smart, and when played smartly on curve can clog an opponents lane to expertly ruin their day. So while Hobgoblin tries to be the bigger, badder goblin, his ambitions are more likely to blow up in your face if your opponent fills the lane you try to place him at or he just comes too late to stop your opponents plan.

I recently read the Hercules series that picks up after planet Hulk and I love that dummy so much. He’s so much fun. My favourite part of the story is when Amadeus is captured by a bunch of amazons and all Hercules can think of is “Aw yeah, my boy is about to get laid!” And then he spots Amadeus through a window being interrogated by the leader of the Amazons in a bedroom and Hercules just gives Amadeus the biggest goofiest grin and a thumbs up😂. I like how Hercules is an imperfect reflection of Thor in his less traditionally chivalrous behaviour, that he calls out how rediculous it is for ancient Greeks to speak in old English since they themselves are way older than that, and that he fights like an Ancient Greek, that is to say dirty, crotch kneeing (did that to Thor), eye gouging and all. I’ve never seen a story where Hercules has a male lover in the comics, though Hercules being Bisexual makes complete sense given Ancient Greece. Anyone know an example of Hercules X man in a story? The first Hercules comic I ever read was from the late 2010s, the one where he’s roommates with Gilgamesh, and he’s trying to be a more respectable hero. I don’t remember much else about it unfortunately. I do remember that I wasn’t super interested in it and he kind of just felt like a discount Thor. Glad that’s not his usual. Also I just reread the story where Red Hulk kills the Grandmaster. I guess Grandmaster got better later on.

Honestly, my favourite Hercules stuff in comics was in Al Ewing's Guardians of the Galaxy run (a favourite, really, I quite enjoyed it on many levels) - his relationship with Noh-Varr's actually pretty great, was happy to see it after feeling for Marvel Boy after the end of Young Avengers. Outside of that, maybe Herc's solo run by Dan Abnett. Haven't really read anything where I cared about The Grandmaster, but he wasn't bad, while Beta Ray Bill's really fun. Nice to see this videos continue, even if I don't connect on the base level of the card game.

3:12 I would disagree with this. Zeus doesn’t have a proper heir, because unlike the Asgardians, the Olympians are truly immortal and unaging, but several comics over the years have indicated that Hercules was basically Zeus’ second-in-command and favourite child. Like the Hercules (1982) miniseries by Bob Layton (which is worth a read and the first miniseries Marvel our out along with Frank Miller’s Wolverine). I think this is a much more recent change that we saw with Greg Pak. Great video though. Good content as usual.

I do wish Goldstein had played hero in the Hercules live action remake before he appeared in the mcu. I believe that this was their only chance to pull a stunt like this. Especially if they had pulled the muses from that movie and made everything with herc into a musical at least until someone shuts them up.

I already love this series! A friend recommended your channel to me with your "2023 is over" Video since he knows I play Snap practically daily. I honestly have little to no idea about Comics, so this is a really cool way of getting to know the characters. I'm definitely looking forward to more of this! this is one of my favorites series already. to piggyback on another comment, i would love either in these or separate videos going into depth about some of the variants that have lore reasons to exist. some of the variants look so cool and ill end up reading online about them for 30+ minutes. but to hear it explained from someone who truly knows marvel comics would be amazing

Recently I've been rereading GotG by Al Ewing, and Herc becomes a Guardian for a while, even if he has a much smaller role. Really fun book and a new take on Herc, too. He's a more regal, heroic version than previous version due to all the Olypians being "reborn" and he even has a thing with No-Varr, Marvel Boy. Overall, really good stuff, as Ewing does. Plus, this run has some of my favorite issue titles of all time.

Might be a bit late to comment here but the Feb update video recently dropped and gave me an idea. They go over the new cards and give a slight reasoning or a talking point about why the card has their ability. Maybe you could add some of that to the discussion on your next season card lore vids. for BRB in Planet Hulk Animated, i assume it was due to Silver Surfer's convoluted rights, being part of FF ip and also maybe being owned by someone else at the time like a Sony or Fox .. I thought using BIll was an inspired choice for that, and plays perfectly into What If/ Exiles kinda multiversing .. petition for Bill in S3 of D+ What IF hrmm ..

I really appreciate you comparing Thor and Hercs personalities based on Thors MCU characterization. Also reminds me that after Endgame there was articles talking about how asexual the MCU is compared to the comics. Bill is definitely one of my favorites and comparing him to Thor, I think Bill is more self serious and tragic. Hes got a more personal and sacrificial drive than Thor. I highly recommend Godslayer. It really highlights what drives Bill and to what extent he will go. The difference in game play, I think is less Beta Ray Bill isn't accurate and more I'd revisit Thor. Beta Ray Bill is more a bruiser and berserker. He's got enhanced almost feral combat abilities and he's a soldier and guardian. Thor weilds more powers and versatility with Mjolnir. He can summon lightning or throw Mjolnir. Stormbreaker doubling Thor or Bill's power feels right, but Mjolnir should let you bounce it or do something to disrupt your opponents board. I just dont know what. Also now I wanna try a combo of Bill, Herc, and Iron Fist. Drop Herc, next turn drop Bill, get Stormbreaker. Stormbreaker double Bill, drop iron fist, move Stormbreaker to Herc, herc knocks it back to Bill.

One of the biggest draws of Marvel Snap is how quick the games are compared to other card games (usually under 3 minutes). While you probably could do it on paper, the time it takes to do some of the calculations required for certain cards and strategies conflicts with the fast pace of the game.

a lot of cards in the game have mechanics that would be very difficult to do with paper. a lot of tokens and power levels are always changing so it would need so much writing for such a short game. it definitely works much better on mobile
