Had a mature ISTJ as a boss. An eagle-eye for the detail, an immense memory for financial figures in prior reporting. Wouldn't be happy with work unless it was verified. Stayed at work hours after everyone else left, almost every evening. Not the easiest person to have a chat with, but that didn't matter - he was bloody good at his job.

Funny story from when I was a baby: My mom was worried that I couldn't talk because I was like 3 and never said anything, so she brought me to the doctor thinking there was something wrong with me. The doctor said "no, he is just lazy." My mom was confused and asked what did he mean, and he told her that she hadn't ever asked or gave me any opportunity to actually speak. He told her the next day to ask me what I wanted for breakfast instead of just making it. The next day she asked me what I wanted for breakfast and I walked to the fridge and said "i'll get the milk, I want fruit loops." She was like this asshole could talk this whole time!!!

I have the same problem after being cut off from contact with my youngest daughter for my political beliefs. I can't move past it, because I can't fix it. Nothing is more irritating and hurtful to me than something just hanging there broken, unfixed and unfixable, unable to be brought to completion. I have a terrible time moving past sad events. My advice, don't shield your ISTJ from life. Don't do everything for her so she doesn't have to get out there.
@jennyhenley41305 жыл бұрын
@@LadyIarConnacht Sometimes when I emotionally accept that I cannot fix something, then I emotionally free up the situation to possibly heal in a surprising different direction. This direction might NOT be what I initially wanted, but it will be better than being emotionally stuck in an unfixable broken situation. This video helped me understand why accepting futility can move me forward : kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXjSo3R4fNxnZ5o My relationship with my mom is not deep like I would like it to be. However, after so much effort (on my part mostly) and almost no headway towards a deeper relationship, I reached a certain point of choosing to accept that our relationship was not going to get any deeper. I am an ISTJ and one of the hardest things for me is accepting that I cannot fix a problem/situation in my life. The "rational mine" within me concludes that acceptance (not trying to fix the problem anymore) is the best way forward (practically and emotionally) if my realistic efforts cannot solve a problem. However, the "solver" in me still tries to come up with a NEW way to fix the problem. I will obsess and analyze ways to fix the problem, even though all attempts to fix it have failed so far. I will be stuck in this obviously futile process for quite awhile, thus causing harm to myself (emotional pain for a prolonged time period causes psychological trauma and damages the nervous system). I use my rational mind to find acceptance. The key is to tell the "solver" within you to stop trying to solve this problem, and that stopping does not mean failure. Do not assign any negative personal judgement to the "failure" of not fixing the problem. Once I acknowledge that the particular problem cannot be fixed, I accept this reality without negatively judging myself. When I do this, I soon feel less emotional pain. Every so often I might fall backwards a little and get back into the trap of thinking about how to solve the problem. But once I remember my previous decision that acceptance was best with this particular problem, then I recommit to accepting the problem. Then I soon feel less emotional pain. Both non-acceptance and acceptance are extremely painful. However, the latter is less painful IMO. AND time helps; time to allow yourself to get to the point where acceptance is possible for you. And in time the acceptance becomes less painful and a place of healing.

@bakachocorobo-kun47282 жыл бұрын
First off, I don’t use Wikipedia lol. Second, I was mistyped as an ISFJ, I think this happened because my mom is and ESFJ, so she really spurred my Te function into learning better social skills. So I learned a lot from her guidance and watching her over the years, especially how mixing charisma with professionalism helps move things along smoother. That and she helped me be more aware of others feelings. ISTJ kids are brutally honest, if we think you stink, we’ll announce it to the world (guess how I know). Because my mom helped me in the weaker functions early on I thought my actions were feeling based. The question, “Do you address someone’s emotions first when they are upset, or do you try to solve the problem first?” I thought addressing their emotions was me saying “it’s going to be okay, let’s do *problem solving*”. I mistook trying to pacify the situation in order to problem solve effectively as addressing their emotions. It took some reflecting on my childhood, my early teen years into current interactions to realize I didn’t have a abnormally strong Ti function for an ISFJ, but was a mistyped ISTJ. Understanding that made a huge difference in understanding myself and how to improve my weaker functions. Also, I’m pretty convinced my sister is and ENFP, because we rub each other the wrong way so much! It’s like having a cat that just wants to mind it own business but a dog keeps panting in its face. Do I love my sister? Yes, I’d be there in a heartbeat if she needed help, but our social interactions are better kept short otherwise we both get frustrated, as you put it when explaining ENFP and ISTJ relationships, “There’s a trail of fesses behind them because they annoy the crap out of each other.” I’m pretty sure my bother is an IXTP type because we get along well, but our sister also rubs him the wrong way too. Honestly though, once an ISTJ gets really comfortable with someone, we can be goofballs, but trying to pry us open like an oyster is shell only going to strengthen our resolve to remain shut. We’re genuine. I hate giving false pretenses about who I am. If I find something funny, I’ll laugh. If I like someone, I’ll smile. I wouldn’t force myself to laugh or smile because I view it as lying. I’d rather have someone not like me to my face, than have them smile at me and stab my back.

I am an ISTJ who is a clean freak at work but has a dumpster at home. This piece of tissue is where it is for a reason. DO. NOT. TOUCH. MY. THINGS. FOR. THERE. ARE. REASONS. WHY. I PUT. THEM. THERE. I'm just too lazy to take the trash out, but don't you dare try to "fix things for me". It also took me 3 whole months to be confident enough to buy myself a hamster - NOT because I was studying about hamsters, but because I was not satisfied about the information available to me about how to raise mealworms (a kind of insect that hamsters LOVE to eat) the best way. Now I am a mealworm expert. XDDDD I am also a dog encyclopedia. I've never owned nor experienced handling a dog ever in my life (until then), yet I ranked 5th place out of 500 people in an actual dog training exam. If only I could've accomplished the down command a tad bit better, the examiners said that I would've ranked 3rd place. I achieved this level of excellence just by knowledge alone. Ha!

POTENTIALLY CONTROVERSIAL OPINION: Superman is an ISTJ. He shows many traits associated with the ISTJ in all of the relevant videos (including God Functions, Temples and such), most obviously when he is either being himself or when he's acting out his public persona. It's less obvious when he's actually being Superman because he's inhabiting his subconscious and unconscious minds for a lot of that time as well as his INFJ Angel Mode on occasion. It may not always fit perfectly, but the overall idea of Superman does, not to mention he would be easier to write and, therefore, better written if the writers used this type as a template.

ISTJ working toward a doctorate in nutrition- it is saturated fat, not sugar, that is contributing to heart disease. Those who have high intake of sat fat plus high intake of added sugars can lead to heart disease, but high added sugar intake without high sat fat intake does not. If we are calling out only one contributing factor, then it should be stated as saturated fat.

I think I'm an ISTJ but I'm never 100% sure. I am constantly looking for various resources and objective proof so i can prove myself to be correct, but i have a on and off kind of attitude towards others where i can either come off to strongly critical, often sitting people down and going through various resources to prove them wrong or i sit back and let people be stupid if i don't "care enough". I never tell a person with questionable logic that they are right, but i can be bad for letting them think what they want and verifying things for my own sake and spreading that for humanity's sake. With a lot of the critical without verifying stuff, I have experienced that with people i believed to be ISTJ. Especially Teachers and Professors.

What percentage of each 'letter; are you? I am about 75% for each 'letter' which makes me a full blown ISTJ. But the test results can range from 1% to 100%. But for some of the 'letters', you may be low percentage, say for 'T' you may be 5% on one test, but show up as 'F' on another test.

ISTJ can appear lazy because they're not being an activist for xyz cause, but most ISTJ adults have spent their lives trying to enlighten others or warn others around them who don't listen, ridicule them or dismiss them as conspiracy theorists. People also dismiss us because we don't keep up with trends, are socially awkward or have a lot of "followers" on social media since we're private people. We are exhausted from trying to expose certain facts. The ISTJ knows history so well that they recognize when sh*t is about to hit the fan, so they've said F everyone who didn't heed my warning, it's too late. And they're now in their bunker stockpiling and preparing for the worst. ISTJ is kind of like the GIVER in the book by Lois Lowry, holding all the experiences of the past, warning people in the present to prepare for possible outcomes in the future. Feeling separate from the general population who is too distracted by trends/norms to recognize nor prepare against imminent threats. It's important to note, that while ISTJs are "traditionalists/by the book" if they recognize something happening that is similar to a historical event or something they don't find logical even though it's a "law, company policy, order from an authority figure, etc." they will speak out against it because they want to warn others that if that law/policy is enforced, it will result in a negative outcome.

Very interesting and unique take on this type. I relate a lot to some of the beginning stuff especially. I do also get stuck in lazy/comfy mode, but for me it's way more about social anxiety and financial worry than actual laziness. I am still very ambitious at heart but frankly, I do better as a wing-man or girl Friday, with somebody else "taking the risk." I'm a wonderful detail person, but not so great with big huge decisions and changes. There have been times when I have looked back, like that guy you know, and said, "Oh my God, I've been stuck here for 20 years." And that's the time when I usually do something radical to shake myself out of that rut. I do want to mention, I don't care at all about sources. You can often find better, more pure observations and logic from someone wholly untaught, even a child, than you can from someone trained to rely on peer reviewed sources. I categorically disagree with your idea that ISTJ go with the collective narrative. I see this trend everywhere among the general population but very little in ISTJ friends and family. To me, they are the opposite, working very hard to make sure they have the best collection of knowledge around. Like you said, they are walking encyclopedias/dictionaries.

When I have a complicated task, I clear the decks and am obsessive about completing the task at hand. I have no small talk, it is a handicap. Social events are painful, I go to them ,but can't wait to go home. Lazy just does not work for me. ISTJ was perfect for my job which I loved. Society is for me a total failure for me. History, Art , English Lit. and Science were favourite subjects. No sport for me at school, I would rather read a book. I Google everthing and then verify that.

I'd like to see them compared to INTPs, they seem similar
@Charlie-rp2wi6 жыл бұрын
Well my best friend and I are both INTPs, while our other friend is an ISTJ. From my point of view, the differences are really clear. The main one I'd say is that while INTPs come up with ideas, it is generally the ISTJs who will criticise these ideas (because INTPs focus more on possibilities and theory while ISTJs focus on facts and relevant information, this happens a lot) and in that aspect we work pretty well together. The ISTJ also brings the INTP 'down to earth' a lot, when maybe getting carried away with a theory or idea. INTPs are also much more oblivious to what is socially acceptable, and while INTPs are more awkward or cold towards people they are not used to, ISTJs are more timid or quiet. Obviously this will vary but that is what I find with my friends.

INTP's and ISTJ's are very mismatched in love, just try divorcing them when they go into demon mode.
@igglywompus5 жыл бұрын
I'd say a massive difference is the fact checking. INTPs never accept things to be true just because somebody or everyone says it is true and keep checking over the facts they already have. As an INTP I find the existing world and what people already know really boring for the most part, and it is only interesting when it links to new possibilities. I'd say INTPs prioritise truth over knowledge and what could possibly be rather than what is.

I've been typed as istj and it's uncanny how many things people can get right about me based on that. There's things that are spot on like my encyclopedic memory and things that don't fit me as well like my lack of critical thought. Often sources are conflicted on things that they don't get quite right about me like lazyness and critic. Maybe it's because of life experience and circumstance. When I was a kid I often shared my vast knowledge and people would just wonder how is it I can remember all that. However often I would come across new more trustworthy information that would contradict what I told to others and I would feel really regretful. Because od that I worked really hard on being able to verify information throughtout my childhood and teenage years. Now, the lazyness does apply to me better but not perfectly. I've always seen my projects through to the end and on time and knowing that I try to avoid starting them. Maybe this is why I might sometimes hard working and sometimes not. Also, I've been working on my work ethic my college years and I've made progress but nothing amazing. It's hard to tell if I'm mature or just blind to my blind spots when it comes to my weaknesses but maybe I'll figure that out once more information comes in.
@arcadianfox81274 жыл бұрын
I'm going to assume that in this scenario I typed myself and my mother correctly (INTJ-ISTJ respectively). If this is wrong, let me know! The ISTJ seems very vulnerable in getting pressured into contracts. The INTJ seems to not read the full contract and fine print too well, only the "seemingly relevant" information. The ISTJ wants to sign the contract for the other, the INTJ wants to do it for themselves. The ISTJ may later say "Oh I didn't really want to sign it, can I go back on it?". The INTJ may later say "I didn't see this, it was a mistake. How can I get out of this?"

This video has got me thinking my dad is an istj. Hes lazy as hell but when he was at work he was good at what he did and would come home and just sit on the couch. I am an INFP with the same functions in different order and unfortunatlely his laziness rubbed off on me and now im trying to finally figure out how to become inspired and have taken cs joseph's advice and am reading a lot and researching things im interested in. My dad has a really good memory like he remembers all the repairs he had to get done on all of his cars within the last 40 years. He beleives anything he hears on cable news that comes from his "side" (unfortunately) and as many times as ive tried to tell him the corprate media is b.s. he's too lazy to even consider. He is quite childish about his emotions which is the first thing that made me think he was an istj. If you give him any crap (which i do a lot) he gets very uncomfortable and at times iv'e gon too far and he literally turns into a hurt child in front of my face (at this point i stop, realizing i went too far). He's totally socially awkward and says cringy things from time to time. He loves to argue with people but is not nececarily good at it but he is confident that he knows all there is to know. Unfortunately I make him sound immature but he's just one of those people that you say "he's alright" about. But does this description sound like an istj or am i wrong? Any advice on verifying whether my dad really is an istj?

INTJ here. I am a 52-year old female who works in Information Tech with a programmer ISTJ who is 60 and he is my best male buddy at work. My best female buddy is a mature ISFJ. I just love those two. The ISTJ cracks us up though. He is sharply-dressed and yet socially awkward and it's actually quite endearing and cute and somewhat childlike. He will provide us with some information and then follow it up with "ya know? ya know?" And he will keep coming back to "ya know?" until we agree that we do know. LOL I would have to say that I am less socially awkward than he is. Funny story. Today on the way to and back from the bathroom I walked by his cubicle and both times he was just staring at his computer monitor, as if staring into space. On the way back, the 2nd pass, I chuckled and said "You gotta watch those things like a hawk, huh?" He laughed and said he was just thinking about such n such. He does that ALL the time though. I sometimes wondering what he's thinking about. It's almost as if he's an INT and staring off into space like I do. But he's def not an INTJ. It's funny. I had to laugh out loud though when you said us INTJs are hopeless because it's true that we can be pretty oblivious in our own world BUT I have worked on this weakness for 25 years and I think I have pretty well-developed Fe now if I do say so myself. :-) I use to always be blindsided by people crying about something I said or did or being mad at me and I had no idea WHY??? or laughing at something I did because it was endearing. But I really worked on it and none of those things happen to me anymore. They haven't in at least 15 years or so. Yes, it has made my life SO MUCH better and I am pretty proud of that. :-)

I can see the similarities and differences between us (I'm an INTJ). One of the differences that dismays me is that when he forms an opinion, he can't be swayed by facts or appeals to logic, morals, or emotion. I don't get that at all. @markrittman24375 жыл бұрын
@@krimo5700 I'm not sure. I'm discussing two topics. The first topic is a tongue-in-cheek and absurd exaggeration of a past relationship with some truth mixed in. My ex just mistyped herself while in her ego. Few people would bother to type themselves while in their superego. Chase has a few lecture series based on synchronicity. The compatibility of two people in a relationship based on how their cognitive functions line up. According to this theory, couples are the most compatible when they share none of the same cognitive functions in their egos (top four cognitive functions). An ESTP man, for instance, has Se, Ti, Fe, and Ni in his ego. An ISTP woman has Si, Te, Fi, and Ne. Since the man and woman have a completely different set of functions and their same introverted and extroverted functions line up, they are very compatible. His lectures say that "sexual compatibility" is based on the locations of the Se of one partner and the Si of the other in the cognitive stack. It is good for the ego of one to have Se and the ego of the other to have Si since the Se partner seeks to show the Si partner a "good time." If both partners share Si in the ego, they both want to receive and follow. If both partners share Se in the ego, they both want to take the give and take the lead. In our case, I was saying in my post that both of us (INTP and ISTJ) shared Si in the ego, and we both had Se down lower in our stacks. This led to incompatibility. Clear as mud?

Love history, love reading history books, I run a history channel even. I'm sentimental and romantic, but can also be cold and ruthless. But I'm also in Pure Mathematics - the abstract, theoretical, logical kind and not the engineering stuff taught in high school. I read the recent scholarship on a lot of stuff - did you know excess fat isn't from excess calories per se but is from stress and metabolism? Exercise works because it changes the body's metabolism. I am very familiar with metaphysics and all those abstract stuff. I prefer viewing history through institutions than through mere dates and facts. Concrete reality makes me cynical. Theories are just facts with caveats. The same way I bring up a fact to the needed situation, I apply the theory when it's the right framework to fit. I have problems with MBTI's foundations, but I can't deny it's somewhat effective. And I play video games tons but I sure as heck know what's going on in the world now. And I've learned not only to question but to actively distrust the "experts" - scholarship always changes, and the one today won't hold for sure.
