I was lucky enough to have my 1994 90 300TDI fitted with 4-cylinder ventilated front discs and stainless steel pistons and s/steel brake hoses by the then Zeus Garage in Exeter, using pistons manufactured by Zeus Engineering. Most successful. Zeus Garage also fitted a Zeus Engineering Geared Timing Conversion, which has made this engine run beautifully since 2002. Balance a coin on edge on the front wing at idle.

Genuine Land Rover brake shoes for Series vehicles rebuilt by the Classic division are made by Industrial Brakes Ltd. in Wolverhampton. They confirmed this to me in a conversation I had with them about four years ago. The lining material is Ferotec MZ Gold, which is a woven material containing quite a bit of brass. They are by far the best linings I've ever used on my Series III, but they do wear rapidly. Mintex no longer use the softer material required for drum brakes, instead using a composite material similar to that used on disc brakes. The net result is the drum wears before the shoes!

Paddocks (who I believe I will not do business with again due to shocking customer service lately!) Advised me that there is no such thing as 'OEM' in respect of Land Rover Defender (older versions) parts. They told me everything is made in factories in India these days and labelled as 'what ever'.... So, I recently fitted LOF Twin Vented Brake Disks. So far so good. An excellent upgrade

I love that coating idea ! Funny really as EBC pads come with a rough layer to deglaze the disc when you first fit them !! Brilliant lol it wouldn’t last the first press of the brake

The BIG advantage of the plating is that the swept area of the disc is a small proportion of the actual disc, on the unplated one the disc corrodes in the normal way, but the plated one does not, the plating, as you observe, is swept away in the first 100 miles, but it is a real advantage for its shelf life, plus cleaning the oily residue off before using is avoided, so plated discs are a winner all round.

Delphi discs are not OEM in this case. OEM are Brembo produced in Poland. Letters EAC on Delphi box are not "Evolution Automotive Components". The EAC declaration and the EAC certificate of conformity are documents of the five members of the EAC Economic Union: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.

I was very lucky to have found a box with a full set of AP Lockheed master and clutch slave and full set of Lucas callipers never used for my disco 2 a few years ago. Not needed them yet but inevitably will be needed when it’s rebuilt one day

I once read the AP brake calipers fitted on the front of the One Ten at launch were the same as those on a Ford Transit (mk2 I would guess) - sound reasonable as they are both similar weight and speed so why reinvent it - they are just a slightly bigger version of the (AP) RRC caliper which was also used on early Ninetys. The part numbers have changed a bit since but apart from the Defender 90 gaining the bigger calipers of the 110 and the 110 going vented, they havn't really changed over the years - biggest feel difference is the ABS vehicles having more servo assistance to give a lighter pedal (presumably as avoiding locking a wheel is less of a concern). The coating would be nice to have if it stops the non-friction surfaces from going rusty so quick (not that its visable through steel wheels) - won't help the friction faces but some braking surfaces rust quicker than others depending on grade of steel used. Given how brands tend to tweek things or change whoevers actully making them for them its probubly near impossable to work out which is best as next time you buy some they are different.

AP has always been OEM. Promotional Range Rover material specifically mentioned them for decades. AP used to run full page ads stating Range Rovers used AP brakes.

I might have misunderstood what you were saying but Brembo are available aftermarket without an LR box. 09.5488.11 is the part number for vented fronts, for example. I know this having spent all bank holiday weekend trying to work out what to buy to overhaul the brakes on my Pulse! Ended up going with EBC slotted discs (not drilled), TRW cylinder and servo, Pioneer 4x4 hoses and will get the existing AP calipers overhauled by somebody who knows what they are doing. The forums seem to think many supposedly new AP aftermarket calipers are actually refurbs which might explain the different company names that you've never heard of.

Good to know. Where do you buy the Brembos from?
@jonny_wright2 жыл бұрын
@@lrworkshop Not bought them but several large auto parts suppliers list them. I presume the LR specific suppliers don't because they're not available from LR, Britpart, Bearmach, etc.

The EAC marking is for the Eurasian Conformity Mark, I like you thought everything was made by EAC car parts but realised its on everything including my Husky chainsaws. Now with the sanctions on Russia I suppose the conformity is now redundant!

Pretty sure Caparo ap was dissolved in 2018 , bought by shiftec/ liberty , not to be confused with ap racing which is owned or was owned by Brembo
@brianreynolds29812 жыл бұрын
Brembo did supply direct to Land Rover untill the end of production for disc yes from poland that is brembo casting as made .

I used to fit ap calipers, upgraded with stainless steel pistons. Now on my own defenders i use the cheap aftermarket ones, and replace them together with the pads when worn.

There are the same supplier AP the Caparo then 920 Engineering ( Libity ) then Shiftec

Is it.possible the Shiftec front caliper is a remanufactured AP? Hence the slightly different colour and bleed nipple.

OEM really is a misused term given the retail sector and the legal use of it. …
