“Who Are You Redbird” is a 2019 song by Buddy Melton and Milan Miller.
The song echoes a timeless belief that the presence of a redbird is a visit from a departed loved one or friend.
With a red cardinal sighting, it’s almost insistently trying to gain your attention, so this belief is understandable.
Male cardinals in particular are certainly hard to ignore with their striking red feathers and melodic yet almost “pay-attention-to-me” chirps.
My mom passed away last December, and she was an avid birder. I don’t believe in reincarnation, but when I see a cardinal in my yard, I like to think about my mom and the love and life she provided for me.
