Idea for the large pit I don't know a whole lot about how space engineers works on a fundamental level but could you checkerboard grinders and welders and just toggle the ones you want to use and turn off the ones you don't? Also I feel like hangar doors would be a good idea to keep things from flying out and potentially damaging a part of the base, plus it would just look super cool

quick note for Isy's it's a script and not so much a mod, so removing it doesn't do anything. to "reset it" you'll want to remove all programmable blocks and LCDs that have been tagged and replace them. the script has a lot of useful information on setup and functions in the programmable block edit menu.

For just a second I thought that was genuine behavior from the pistons still compressing the merge blocks, and then I got it too 😂 I think the merge block idea is good, there's the space elevator scene in the intro, it's just super difficult to line up, and should be done vertically, with a horizontal offset so the blocks meet up on their sides, not faces

@@sunnysonne2957 It is a good idea but as he said in a previous video his series doesn't exist to be the most efficient builder, he's going to do whatever is the most fun. Just reattaching it with a merge block is boring, instead he made it the feature problem for the episode that and drove his descent into madness story. As for the space elevator scene I actually made a tunnel bore mine based on that design. A pair of merge blocks and connectors to caterpilar down, a projector and welder attached to the drill to build more shaft as it descends and another merge point it can reset from. Took forever to design and was horribly impractical, but so fun to make.

It's an unfortunate problem with Isy's once you start getting a much larger number of components or items than vanilla (not uncommon for larger WeaponCore mod combinations, or Industrial Overhaul paired with other mods). As someone pointed out in the comments, the Custom Data of the programmable block stores that, and deleting the custom data contents will allow you to recompile the script successfully in case you've done a lot of custom setup of Isy's without losing it all. It only seems to have the error when attempting to re-initialize, not a fresh init from scratch. It DOES have the unfortunate side effect of making you have to re-learn the recipes again, sadly. If you don't enable the Autocraft portion of Isy's, it won't happen, but then you need to use another mod or script to handle autocrafting. Edit: Unfortunately, no inventory script works as well as Isy's for inventory control and sorting across all mods. Production Quota (mod) can be used to handle the autocrafting itself, and doesn't care about total different item count since it operates on a per-production-block basis, with less load than a script typically.

Its how it works in my world. And if you put a modifyer letter (like "d" for only disassamble) on the level one tools. Attach some tardigrades to the leap frog and have the leap frog as the mining base. Ot can fly out and then detach the tardigrades which mine and return the resources until the leapfrog is full. Then the tardigrades re-attach to the leapfrog and the leapfrog can transport them all back.

I would recommend a mod called [rebels gates]. It introduces massive airtight hangar doors that look really cool. They come in 3 different sizes that could cover the big hole square and could (probably) fit the FFP (fit for purpose) if you rotate it right. You could also install the sleep through the night mod if you wanted the sun to rotate but still be able to work.

Rebel gates are aesthetically pleasing, but the component cost on the last one is kinda game breaking since that is where blocks get their health pool from, sadly gotta configure the component cost yourself if you want it to be reasonably balanced, rebels lights are super clean looking too and I love not having a grate over the spotlights for my vehicles. Mucho prefer DHI hangar systems, or molecular force doors for the added customization of being able to pick the colours of the molecular gate, but DHI namely for the ramp shaped hangar doors, they are SUPER handy, not a huge fan of the blue force-field but that at least makes sense as to why its airtight, I guess.

The pit could have a wall be made of grinders, on a bunch of pistons so that it travels down the pit grinding everything all up, like how you dug it. The back of the wall could be welders, so it doubles as a big printer. You would probably need piston chain that does a u turn or 2 so it fits. A projector on the wall grid could keep it repaired.

For your big pit, if you want it to have grinders and welders, you could build a wall of each. Hinge the walls at the bottom so they could hinge down to become the floor as needed. Grinders for the left wall and welders for the right wall (or vice versa). A projector on each "wall" with a blueprint of just the subgrid it's on would allow for automatic repairs. The complication with this is that you'd probably have to add thrusters to the walls to lift them back up since hinges are not very strong. Rotors could work better, but they're a lot more tricky to calibrate offsets to work nicely together.

My pit suggestion would be panels that can be flipped from the walls down to the ground. On one long wall there is the grinder panel and on the other side there is the welder one. To use them one rotor truns the panel 90° down and stabilizises it with a landing Gear so is in place perfectly. To use the other mode you first put the currently active panel back on the wall and then put the other one down with its own rotor. The Advantages are that is relativly simple for SE and its a space efficient solution for both modes. You can even armor the back panel so the walls dont get damaged. I hope you understand what i mean :)

For the grinder pit, you should make the bottom the welder and have a piston that pushes the grinder grinders in from both sides. Just flip a switch for the one you need. This makes it so that any damage from stuff dropped onto the grinders is “repaired” from the welders. Love the videos, keep up the good work!

11:25 Isy's got an absolutely amazing door-shutting script to help close all those pesky open doors to hopefully reduce the amount of wasted O2. I use it for basically all my ships, and most of the Workshop ones have it as a matter of course.

If you want your ship charging while you build it: Each large connector has 2 tall sides and 2 short sides. You can connect a regular armor block to one of these "tall" sides. Then slap down 2 more armor blocks on top of the first, then add an upside-down connector above the original and BOOM. Lock the connectors to each other and start building. 😊

I have an idea for the pit. why not do something like sliding floors? Have a base normal floor for hanger mode and then each long wall can have a sliding floor that can slide out for either welding or grinding? You can even use hanger doors to hide the sliders and add some design to it. This can easily be repeatable and you can even split them into chunks since grinders and welders on large scale have a 4 small block spherical radius. That means you can make a single piston push one chunk and they won't connect.

Few episodes behind. For the grinder pit, don't do subgrids, instead you could make a projection of it as welders and one as grinders. Have the colours slightly different on each projection. Using an array of BuildandRepairs to then grind and weld the welder-grinder projectors arrays.

It lets ya enter a top-down style camera, drag your cursor to select "units" and also pan around the screen. Used to play a lot of C&C growing up too and that mod immediately sent my mind there, so when you brought it up, I couldn't resist :P

for that big pit, you could have a bed of welders on the bottom and have a shelf of grinders that get pushed from a trench extending in to the wall. you could use a gravity generator and set the area to only suspend the area where the grinders would sit at -0.25 a-gravity making 0g of overall gravity. if youre concerned about the shelf of grinders wiggling then you could have guide rails down the sides and maybe have some pegs on the leading edge of the shelf to interlock (with a little wiggle room to avoid klang) in the opposing wall. your grinders would be constantly being repaired by the welders and the pistons shouldnt flex since the grinders are suspended in 0g. I dont play SE so i dont know if theres any considerations that would make this unviable but i had the mental image of a drawer system if that makes sense.

The new Make or Break hole, could be made in checkers pattern where it has Welder (W) and Grinder(G) on Checkers board pattern (WGWG...) where Grinders are on pistons, and at Piston Min grinders are off and below welders, and at piston max extended grinders are above the Welders, meaning it would even help fix itself in case of fall-damage. Just an idea, for your creativity :)

Maybe a tip. But what I like to do is outfit my combat ship with Ion thrusters for general flying in space. And then add some hydrogen thrusters that I only turn on when going in to combat for extra manoeuvrability. And I also like to build these detachable power nodes with batteries and a jump drive, that I just swap in and out at my base/asteroid base that has a solar panel farm. Pretty fun jumping from planet to planet and simply detaching for a fresh jump drive/batteries.

You could do sliding welders/grinders. Have a piston(s) that extend a wall on the bottom that can latch into place using attach/detach in place. Should be able to set up an event controller that once the pistons extend the wall into place at the bottom, it attaches to each side via piston, detach the extended and keep it in place. A button controller can then reverse the process and replace with the welder/grinder depending on which you need.

I've been binging this series for a few days now, and I think you just said something that might completely save me from solo survival burnout. "It's always good to build some flaws into your designs, makes them more interesting." I've been struggling to care about progression in a save I just started because I'm reasonably established on the Earthlike planet with nothing posing a threat to me. I've been designing large hydrogen ships to no avail because I don't like the design for long or I start to think "what's really the point? I get off-world and then just continue?" If I change my thinking to that of that one line of yours, it encourages me to build *more* ships, *different* ships, and ships that *don't* do everything I need. Sure, I need a flyable base of operations to get off the planet for the first time, but after that I don't need a single ship to do all of my everything for me. Honestly, I could just build a massive hauler to get off-world and then build a base into an asteroid or something. For the first time in a very, very long time, I think I have an enjoyable way forward in this game.

For your grinder/welder pit. i was thinking you could alternate/stagger welders and grinders along the bottom of the pit, mount everything on pistons. when you want welders, push the welders up. want grinders? lower the welders and raise the grinders up. grouping could be hard but if you only place the welders and associated pistons first, you could group em easier being that theyre the only ones built and then just back fill the grinders and group em in similar fashion. look forward to seeing how you tackle the challenge regardless

Maybe the most performance economic way of operating the giant pit without the need for repairs: Get the devs do sponsor you a bunch of alt accounts, employ a bunch of chinese children to "play" 24/7 and have them solely grind down ships manually in the pit. No need for repairs, very repeatable, and due to you being a lawyer already (lets forget about the "humanitarian part for a moment), labor cost can be at an all time low. You could even whip up a legally binding contract giving them extra motivation in form of putting their entire lineage in generations long debt if they dont "play" with the most "enthusiasm" a human can muster.

You have Airlock problem, where you vent your base quite often. Perhaps you could add yourself a ToDo: Make automated airlock with Blackjack and Sensors. I know it may add a couple seconds to enter/leave base each time, but its oxygen we are talking here about...

Having never played the game, here is my recommendation for the pit: Have the floor be welders and then on top of that have basically a set of giant double doors hinged along the longer sides of the pit. There would need be cavities for the grinders to fold into on the sides of the pit. I don't know if this really works this way but the welders being right below the grinders would then repair the grinders hopefully keeping them from being destroyed by large falling debris

FOR YOUR KNOW! on the merg blocks, they HATE being on the exact same grid at the start. your test was more of a armorment of thoes things. they work when ya use em to lock 2 seprage grids *ie a pair of large ships togeather* but i have seen more smart souls make them operate under a simi same grid methoid* oh and the atomaton programable block are just thememd blocked because of keens madness for asetics (dont blame em)

I know i'm a bit late to this but for the giant pit, you could cut a line on the side where the welders come out from, they would just slide in above the grind pit or vice versa and once they line up instead of a merge block to connect you use connectors (to avoid the warhead explosion)😅

Maybe I missed something, but originally the leapfrog was going to be a mining ship, but now just a transport. what are you going to be mining with? You'll need a mining ship to tag along surely? Looked like you were about to just take off and mine without one. As I say I could have missed something as I was working whilst watching/listening.

As far as tentacles and doors for the sarlacc pit, I would just combine the two. Have either two or preferably four doors (cardboard box like). Point the doors straight up to act as a chute and keep debris from spilling out, angle them out to act as a funnel. And lastly, just open them all the way flat, so that if something hits the edge of the pit, just close the door to shove it in. Also, yay, I got mentioned in a video!!

I believe your issues with Isy's may be tied to the obscene quantity of speed-mod assemblers in conjunction with loads of nanobot structures. Normally having 30 speed mod assemblers is just fine, but I think this causes tons of mayhem when combined with the nanobots. At least in my own experience, I've noticed the nanobots (even with just 7 or 8 of them) can really put a lot of strain on the script when you're running 4 maxed out assemblers. I think this is because the nanobots are meant to also work in conjunction with assembler queues if you've got a script for them. Something somewhere just breaks down. I think the issue is Isy's doesn't play nice with nanobots at any large scale. I have no explanation for how Isy's mysteriously loses blueprint data on all of the components, but I bet a good test for this (if you haven't fixed it yet) would be to remove every nanobot structure, cleanly remove JUST the nanobot mod and Isy's script, then load up the game again with a fresh copy of the script and see how it fares. I don't think any nanobot mod was really intended for the scale you're trying to use them at. This is something I'm beginning to notice myself in my own games. They're meant for assisting the construction of a starter base, help with the creation of a printer, and after that (when you're rolling out printed ships) they're really only meant to be used sparingly. Like on a large grid ship to carry out internal repairs, or to serve as a repair mechanism for small-grid ships in some kind of drydock. What I typically do for any large scale construction is build out a welding arm using MarmOS. The script is confusing at first but there are loads of examples to build off of. The way these arms work is very intuitive, it's just like controlling a spaceship and you can have up to 6dof motion if you build them correctly, and it can cover a surprisingly large range. I usually build a few of these arms, hooked into my base cargo, to weld up any large constructions or even do drilling, as you can attach multiple large grid drills and control it all manually. The games I've played with no nanobots, and instead relied on construction arms, have never given me any problems. I definitely think this is exclusively an incompatibility between Isy's script and nanobots.

What about two walls of grinders, in any configuration you like. That could be pushed with pistons, positioned with one wall on each side. They will pinch together like one of those car crushers, would look really cool.

Instead of one turning door, couldve been two "normal" "doors", like (view from side) .| |. neutral, .__|. grinding, .|__. welding. Projector can go on the subgrid to keep it repaired. this setup also would allow to use piston actuators rather than just rotors alone, if the extra stability is necessary (when using pistons, rotors need be unpowered so they dont fight each other)

I really really like how you have specific jobs for specific tasks, it reminds me of a little ant colony, but what could be an interesting playthrough is if you had one jack of all trades mothership; one that could mine, refine, fabricate, the whole nine, etc

Sort of. You can have multiple shield generators as backups if one is destroyed, but the mod will only project one shield per ship

Merge blocks were probably suggested to merge grids that accidentally got split. They make no sense to use with pistons as pistons and rotors have a builtin detach and reattach feature.

If I were to make a gaint grinding pit I would make a reverse 3d printer with either pistons or wheels ( I love wheels ) and have it slowly grind anything from top down. Also it can have a 2 heads one as a grinder and the other as a welder, although the welder will need to be connected to the base and not wheel based unfortunately

If you have groups that have mismatched states you can use the G menu to set them to a state, not toggling. That's much faster than searching for it 😉

@@LargelyUnemployed It's so obvious that it's often overlooked. Even as veteran I catch my self sometimes sifting though the block list to find the culprit, just to facepalm later on... What I really wish is that they would finally implement a tree view for the damn thing. The colors help, but they are imo just a stop gap. Quality of life features are really SEs weak point. It got a lot better over the years but compared to other popular sandbox titles they are really lack luster. I blame the feature frenzy from the early development years. The accumulated technical debt is probably one of the reasons why QOL features are so difficult to implement. It's easy to cry out and shout "look at Factorio they can do it too" but that's a completely different scale and development approach. I have the deepest respect for Wube that they aren't afraid of tackling the inner workings for QOL stuff. But Factorio is still a project size were all devs have at least an inkling of what other devs are doing. With the VRage/SE behemoth and Keens size that's just unrealistic. Still it would be nice if they would commit to the QOL stuff more.

I think a giant car crusher type mechanism would be interesting, where you put the ship on the bottom of the pit and a giant plate on some pistons push it into the wall of grinders. Very inefficient, but i think it could be worth a try

Btw the click click is due to the fact that some nano builder might be trying to craft some block and they are missing some componants. So if u give them what they need, it should stop😁 at least it work for me 😅

Possible for pit one side extending grinders other side retracting welders. Fully extend the welders and create while retracting. Grinders just eat while extending.

I think having welders on the bottom with grinder walls that crush anything inside would be cool. Sort of similar to how you made the pit except grinders instead of drillers.

HEY! HEY YOU! There's a volume meter on the nanobots. Near the bottom I think. The clicking will be gone if set to 0. Also I use Speed of Light mod for infinite speed so maybe switch versions to that if you need/want to?

You would be better off doing an "all on, all off" buttons separately. Because if you toggle 1 of your gun types on/off and then suddenly want to turn ALL of them off, you would toggle EVERYTHING off, but turn the 1 type ON.. and you would end up in the same situation you just had where you are unsure which ones are on/off.. If you use the button of just "turn all OFF" FULL STOP.. then you KNOW they are off together.. and not in the half on half off toggle nightmare.

16:00 hey lets make an absolutely useless display of two pistons coliding with eachother rather than a proper in game display of how mergeblocks actually work!! btw, this exact concept is actually shown working in the famous tunnel bore machine in the workshop, its really not hard to understand... Put a mergeblock between the piston and the wall of drills, unlock the drills, add a new piston and mergeblock, reattach the mergeblocks and keep going. If you want to make it more complicated add a projector and a connector and you can make an infinite length drill machine (See common tunnel bores in the workshop for examples)

You could just checker box the welders and grinders. Fewer things to Klang out than using rotors etc. It's not as exciting but more... stable. lol

Instead of flipping, you could just have all of the grinders on top and welders on bottom, then lift it all with enough pistons that you can get under it and fly the ship out. Ship prints as the lifting of the "door" happens.

Instead of Isys i personally prefer a Mod called “Production Quota” which runs a lot lighter than script management because it is a proper mod, which integrates with EVERY block that has an inventory.
