In Skanda Purana, Ganga is described as "UPANISHAD SAARA SARWASWA", meaning "embodiment of the essence of all Upanishads" created by Lord Shiva in fluid form to bring emancipation to sentient beings. Mahadevi Bhagavatham describes her as the incarnation of ADISHAKTI, who incarnated as Ganga to fulfill Her boon to Shiva that She will reside on his head, because he had carried Sati's charred body on his head with great grief. In theory, Ganga represents the element water, while Shiva represents fire. The fiery fires represented by Shiva is kept in balance by the waters represented by Ganga. And the destructive powers of surging waters is kept in check by the force represented by Shiva. Together Shiva and Ganga represent the harmonious union of opposing elements just like the Yin & Yang.

One of the 1st story's of shiva I read many moons ago. Completely different what I read. Ganga was going drown the world . couse she was following, ( can't remember he's name ) to give water to the land. But he went off some were , and she started couse trouble . Shiva came down and wrapped her in he's hear. So she wouldn't destroy the world. .something like that. Tell what's he's name came back on crouse. That's right. He had to go below her as what's he's was looking around heaven. Interesting. 3 different story's I've heard now. Good show.👍
