New game idea: reverse Immaculate Grid. The grid is filled with players, most likely the most popular that day. Then the guys have to fill in the teams/categories around the grid.

Ideas for drafts - walks, both pitching (could be tryna get the most even tho it’s a bad stat or who threw the least) and/or batters drawing BB; batting strikeouts (again I think a negative stat draft, whoever can whiff the most would be funny); drafts of stats all done but just postseason stats would be AWESOME; and maybe pitching wins/saves

I hate to be that guy, but as someone with a degree in statistics, I feel qualified to give an opinion on the score calculator. The problem is that ERA and innings pitched do not have a normalized scale. by dividing ERA by innings, you artificially inflate the importance of ERA because the deviation(scale adjusted) is much higher. What I mean by this is that a (non-injured) starting pitcher is going to throw anywhere from 150-230 innings, meaning that the lowest of the low is only about 65% of the highest possible innings. For relievers, the gap is even smaller. On the other hand, It is totally reasonable to get ERAs from anywhere to 1.75-4.50, a much larger gap respectively. You should normalize the scale of the two by taking the average ERA and Innings for each of the three teams. Then, for ERA, since lower is better, take this average and subtract by each individual team's ERA, then divide by Standard deviation of the ERAs. This will create a scale where 0 is the average, and a higher number means a lower ERA. Then, you can do the same thing with innings, but this time, take the individual innings and subtract the overall mean innings, again making a scale where 0 is average and a higher number means more innings. Since both numbers have the same scale, you can add the two together and the higher number is the better number. If you wanted to weight ERA more than innings as this is an ERA draft, you could multiply whatever weighting you wanted to make it more aligned(eg. if you wanted ERA to account for 60% of the score and innings 40%, then you would multiply the ERA portion by 0.6, and innings by 0.4), Just some food for thought
@JDawg12329Ай бұрын
For context, Using my formula, Jake moves to second place in front of Jolly
@mse326Ай бұрын
I mean if they really wanted a true ERA they should just track earned runs and IP and then get a team ERA. If they wanted to weight they can just do it to those numbers. Wouldn't need to normalize anything.
@JDawg12329Ай бұрын
@@mse326 the problem with this is that innings doesn’t matter at all. In theory I could take guys with super low ERAs regardless of innings pitched and then my era would be super low but have like 200 innings.
@under-waterbasketweavingАй бұрын
@@JDawg12329 it is techincally just an ERA draft, not best pitchers draft, maybe you put some qualifiers like 150+ innings for starters, but it should just be lowest ERA imo, because its an ERA draft

im all for the draft being more ERA based than this, but there needs to be regulation. if you do innings as a variable again but not the main stat, make it an inning minimum (or a plate appearance minimum if its hitters). a minimum of 1100 innings sounds reasonable for this kind of draft, and then if they do get the lowest ERA, being behind on innings shouldnt matter as long as they have enough
