I don't think anything fundamentally changed based on the Whittaker fight. We all knew going into it that Whittaker would be taken down. The question was would he survive. Well, he was surviving, up until the moment Khamzat pressed on his his jaw which then shattered. That was a Whittaker specific outcome and Whittaker himself said his jaw was busted up in the Dricus fight which is what led to the outcome with Khamzat. Essentially Dricus broke his jaw, then Khamzat profited.

I think dricus and Caio Borallho have the best chance of defeating Khamzat. Good grapplers with a submission threat while also being more dangerous than Khamzat on the feet. The best way to nullify Khamzat wrestling is to avoid trying to stand back up and instead, accept guard and constantly attack with submissions or strikes off the back. Gilbert did really well because of this. Whenever Khamzat faces even a little bit of adversary on the ground, he gets discouraged and prefers to stand.

I think DDP stands a real good shot. I think he's different because he actually has the raw strength to deal with Khamzat that others don't. That will be the difference between him making it out of the first round and others that can't. If you're strong enough to put up a fight it makes him work harder which is what you want.

I like DDP and I believe it'll be a tough fight but I think Khamzat is light years ahead in wrestling. Roman Dolidze is one of his training partners. He's bigger than DDP and has elite wrestling grappling, being from Georgia. Merab and Iliya have proven the pedigree of Georgians in wrestling/grappling. Alexander Gustafson is another of Khamzat's training partners and a UFC Hall of Famer and I think He took Jon Jones to a close decision the first time. He's also huge and a great wrestler. Not to mention Robert is one of the best wrestlers/grapplers in the middle weight division. He beat Jacare Souza and Joel Romero, both elite in wrestling and grappling.

Honestly I think Whittaker has the best scrambles and some of if not the best TDD defence in the open, and honestly it just wasn’t enough. Khamzat gets guys into his world and even when he does get out scrambled like he did against Rob, he just gets the immediate reshot to take it back down. Adesanya I don’t see doing well, he had great TDD in the open but so does Rob, and like Rob he will get backed to the cage and taken down. From there he is a lot worse at scrambling than Rob and I don’t see him getting back up. Strickland is good at scrambling and may be better at get ups than Rob even is, but he has far worse TDD and in general worse scrambling and wrestling even if he has better BJJ. I could see Strickland surviving and tiring Khamzat like that. Honestly had his teeth not given in Whittaker should have survived that attempt and maybe done the same but sadly we didn’t get to see that. Furthermore I think Strickland has a more exhausting style to face than Rob does, so there is a chance for him. DDP I think is the only one with real shot here, he is an incredibly good grappler, and he is as strong as a horse, like some goofy strength. He also will push forward against Khamzat and does have more heart if it does go long. The one thing that holds me back from being more sure on him is how he got kinda rag dolled by Derek Brunson, and from there we don’t know much about his ability off bottom and if it’s improved. DDP also is incredible at game planning and really does have underrated fight iq, the guy plans for every opponent so specifically and understands them so well. This I feel really could come into play cause I could see him not backing down from Khamzat and pushing forward, making Khamzat uncomfortable and unsettled. I could see DDP beating Khamzat though and I would probably favour him by just a tad maybe 60%/40% in favour of DDP.

I'm not counting DDP at all, his team is great at making gameplans and he executes them well. His fight agaisnt Sean was super high level. His wonky style includes his grappling, Khamzat isn't going to find someone to train against who can mimic his style and vice versa for them training for Khamzat. It comes down to gameplan and whether or not DDP can survive round one and tire out Khamzat or not. If he can then he can win for sure. Dude has limitless heart, gamefulness maxed out attribute. Khamzat is a power wave, but runs the risk of burning out. If he brings a pro gameplan and sticks to it then he wins.

Another option would be to turn the corner while pressuring heavily downward on a overhook while circling away from the fence. Now this might not be enough for a full escape, but hopefully as he is chasing forward you have now moved away enough from the fence to be actually able to sprawl if his next attack in the chain is another shot.

Look we all knew if Khamzat were to beat B. Knuckles, it was going to have to be in round 1 or 2. The fact that he was able to do that wasn’t a huge surprise. What was, however, completely unexpected is that Whitaker’s jaw was compromised even going into the fight. Imagine how much different the betting line would have been if we knew that someone with a weakened jaw is going up against someone who mostly finishes fights with some form of a powerful choke? Even going forward now, if Whitaker doesn’t retire, how can he ever compete against anyone who has any capability to take his back and apply any pressure on his face?
