I am a 1950 born Indian. I lived in Delhi as a child. Now I remember a calender of the PIA of the year 1958 or 1959 which showed for every monthly page a beautiful woman putting on different national dresses of Pakistan which included sari, now banned in Pakistan. I am an airline pilot and I'm telling you, PUNJABISM is an actual reason that destroyed PIA. From Pakistan Intl Airlines, it was gradually turned in to Punjab International Airlines. The term 'Great People to Fly With ' was actually coined by Mr. Omer Kureshi, who was then General Manager Public Relations PIA, and was used in its global advertising campaign. Mrs. Kennedy only repeated the same slogan and from then on has wrongly attributed to her. A better way to reduce manpower, reduce losses and perhaps generate profits is to spin off the non-core functions like the training centre, flight kitchen, airport operations, etc.,as separate independent companies. This makes each individual product less expensive and more saleable. At the end, the government can decide to choose whether to sell off the main core airline, and it becomes much more attractive. If not, most of the non-core functions would have been spun off and sold anyway. If there are no buyers for the core function, shutting it down would be less painful.

As long as, Ishphani family scion Mirza Ishphani was the Chairman, all went well. After 1971, PIA downfall started. Jackie Kennedy flew by PIA in 1962. Much before vivisection of Pakistan. PIA failure is another example of failure of 2 Nation theory.

After 1970 PIA had been totally mismanaged without any vision. In fact Emirates was established by Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum in 1985, though modestly but with a super vision to develop Dubai as a world class trade centre basing Dubai as a huge civil aviation hub connecting the major international cities in the west and across the Atlantic and the east up to Australia and New Zealand. The development of Dubai and Emirates go hand in hand. This country and all her institutions, including PIA are malfunctioning without any VISION, sailing like a rudderless ship.

PIA was the best and flourishing airline until Muhajirs (Urdustanis - Indian originals) worked diligently and honestly. But corrupt, greedy and incapable politicians started firing Muhajirs in 1980s and filled the positions with incapable villagers in PIA who had no experience of airline services. Honestly Punjabis and Sindhis have destroyed all institutions of Pakistan.

I love the fact that you convey fact based analysis instead of falsely glorifying Pakistan.
