I'd be interested to learn what Simon did to piss off not just the BBC but the entire mainstream broadcasters because, for sure, he has a very rare talent. The kind Graham Norton etc would kill for.
@TomStufforShow3 жыл бұрын
I could be really naive here, but I get the sense from his stand up and later work (Grandma’s House - which got 2 seasons on BBC) that he couldn’t sustain this kind of persona and that he didn’t like being perceived as a bully, so he chose to move away from that. I watched him record a pilot for channel 4 show where he interviews celebrities about their trauma in a therapeutic way (it didn’t get picked up 😂). He’s still doing lots I think, just not in this style.

@@spa2damax Nothing sinister. I don't dislike Mr Norton. Just that he is (or was) the highest paid BBC entertainer and good as he is, not worth it (in my opinion - but such is subjective). @@topman6727 Identity is personal and isn't a binary thing, you can have more than one nation forming part of your identity, plenty of people have affinity to multiple nations. For instance an English person born to Jamaican parents could feel both English & Jamaican. Its the same with your example. You could be raised in California, but speak Welsh, be brought up with an appreciation of Welsh culture & history, go there anually and feel an affinity with it and incorporate it into your identity. There's plenty of people who feel affinity to more than one nation, particularly when families migrate

Unlike Lamarr who just made fun of the people not in the room... Amstell made it a wonderful anti-pop-quiz. The reason it failed in the end is because pop itself failed. The mainstream they were making fun off simply stopped existing and was slowly replaced by something so absurdly dumb that the concept of making fun of it became redundant. Maybe that was why Lamarr left in the first place. Not sure what Rhod Gilbert could have done in the end with a world where only KZbin acts and casted turds had interest in appearing because nobody else would have an advantage of holding their face into a camera without presenting their music.
