I’m gonna be honest, Texas is one of the most hilariously useless battleships from history and is known for 2 things: 1. Being the last dreadnought type 2. Her Normandy adventure. Everyone remembers Texas but few forget Nevada did better.

Texas was an expiremental warship, as it was the first in the Navy to have an AA battery. It had the most advanced AA on any dreadnought in the interwar period, with the only thing beating its aa abilities were fast BBs of the thirties and aircraft carriers.
@XXXTENTAClON2272 ай бұрын
The Dreadnought is even funnier for the fact that it is the only ship to be so impressive that 4 different ship classes were named after it… yet it’s only achievement was ramming a submarine to sink it, which also makes it the only confirmed battleship in history to have sunk a submarine It’s basically the most famous ship in the world behind an even funnier ship, the “unsinkable” Titanic, which sank on its very first voyage People just like absurdity I guess… and love films

10:40 Would love to see some recognition for the HMS Dorsetshire and her sister ship, the HMS Cornwall. Both destroyed, refitted into heavy destroyers. HMS Dorsetshire was the Destroyer to launch 3 torpedo's at the Bismarck and destroy it. HMS Dorsetshire and HMS Cornwall were both lost in the Indian Ocean when attacked by a Japanese Carrier Group (just the aircraft) hundreds of sailors were saved, including my great great grandfather, who served on the HMS Dorsetshire. On Bournemouth Pier (In Dorset, South West England) there is a memorial for the HMS Dorsetshire, then is even an engraving in stone of it's final picture along with the HMS Cornwall. The picture was taken by a Japanese pilot returning to it's carrier after sinking both ships.

4:45 Yeah, that's BS. Siberian tribes have been around for a loooong time, and territorial claims on their lands have existed for nearly as long. The Moskau-Kasan wars have pretty much happened under their noses for decades, so of course they were aware who won that war, not to mention being raided and plundered and ruled by the Golden Horde before that. Even the Kosaks needed a long time for that. And by the time the whole of Siberia was an integrated part of Russia, St. Petersburg became the new capital.

Explanation for Taihou: During the Battle of the Philippine Sea, when Taihou was launching her strike force, an American submarine fired a spread of torpedoes at the ship, and of that spread only two were on course to hit. However, a Japanese pilot noticed the wake of the torpedoes and deliberately dove onto and destroyed one of the torpedoes leaving one to strike the ship on the starboard side. Initially, Taihou seemed to shrug off the hit because no fires started, but the strike did fractured the aviation fuel tanks. Damage control officers insisted that the situation was under control and that they were okay to proceed and they did. Then, one of the damage control officers made a fatal error. The fractured fuel tanks were leaking gasoline and the fumes spread in the surrounding area. In an effort to dissipate the fumes they activated the ventilation system. Rather than dissipate the fumes they were instead spread throughout the ship sealing it's fate. Later that day the fumes were ignited by an electric generator and Taihou is blown to pieces as the flight deck bulges upward and flames consume the ship. The ship continued to burn for three more hours before sinking at 4:28 PM. She took 1,650 men out of 2,150 with her.

Warspite is more impressive when you know some of the insanity she survive. (Such as tanking the entire German High Seas Fleet for a bit). As I understand it Britain was never really worried about Germanies navy, rather what would happen if Germany were to ally with another power like France or Russia or the USA or all of the above but mostly France against Britain.
