Top 2 stat teams out this week just gone. But I think this just shows what an even competition it is, not much between the top 8 sides this yr, or even top 15 on some levels. What I think should be pointed out though is the continued ability of some clubs - Geelong, Sydney, Brisbane now a bit, and Collingwood (on the avg) being regularly up there, and Hawthorn often in contention too. And the longer term absences of North, Saints for a bit now, Essenson, Carlton from real contention. With so many equalisation measures in place, club culture and methodology is more key than ever

It's bizarre. He was also crucial to the premiership 2 years ago. I'm a cat supporter and he is our best player all year. He is more important than Tom Stewart this year. He has a very high football IQ, he focuses on doing the essential things right. Unfortunately guys like Stewart, dangerfield get the spotlight, when they aren't our best player, Zach is. LOL. Had to get the stat man to give facts for him to be recognised

In previous years, Steww and Danger were undoubtedly Geelong's standout players and were our best players . However, in 2024, Zach Guthrie has emerged as the Cats' current best player. While Miers and Holmes are also having fantastic seasons, it's Guthrie's role as a playmaker off half back that makes him even more vital. His ability to rebound from defense and be playmaker that sets our sling shot play for our wingers, ala holmes/ danger, but also Jezza does this well moves to the wing and drags backman out of position and small half forwards Mannagh/Miers/Close/Stengle and this has been crucial to our success all year. But I still hear oh tag Stewart, oh Dangerfield is back to his best lol.. I need the statman to back me up. I swear Its zach that had the most rebounds off half back for cats and is most efficient at it. Stewart might be 2nd but isn't as efficient, has had a down year and turns the ball over a lot unlike Zach Guthrie. I have watched every Geelong cats game this year.

I think the stats there don't align with the reality. When the swans go long down the line and play conservative footy they turn the ball over and get scored against heavily. When they play agressively, like when they were 28 points down against GWS, they carve teams up and conceed less. Would love to see some meaningful data like, how many times they've gone long down the line to a contest in a qtr correlated with scoring shots for and against.

Friday night's game was shit. Sat nt was so much better with more goals kicked! It's a shame either Sydney Sooks or Port ferals have to make the GF. Geelong v Brizzy would make the best high-scoring GF and this Sat prelim will prove that. How did Hawks lose? Simple. Agree completely, everyone writing off Port at home against a young inexperienced Hawks team was crazy. Always was going to be close though

Everyone saying in hindsight "Of course Port were going to win, no one expected them not to" but the people who are saying this are the people who got it wrong. Hawks had a lot more going for them than Port did and Port had so much going against them, that's why it was a surprise win to most.
