He then died somehow and became a Lich. A Lich is a Undead dark magic user who retains all the power and consciousness they had in life but is now "unliving" usually a animated skeleton or ghost. Its a frowned upon way to achieve longer life. Betelguise has been trying to come back to life ever since he died as a lich usually does in efforts to avert death and further their power to satisfy themselves. Heres some fun terms. Witch- female spell caster, and theres many different kinds of witches, the highest form usually being called something special like the supreme or grand, a example is marvels "The Scarlett Witch" or "witch queen" its important to note that ONLY WOMEN can be witches. Absolutely no exceptions. Males are not capable of being witches. No debate allowed. Warlock/wirloc- a male witch, and there's different kinds, however its not as deep as witches for when a warlock achieves certain statuses/states of being/ spell styles, they become something else. Usually advancing to a sorcerer or wizard. Sorcerer- a male multi magic caster. Sorceress- a female multi spell caster. Regarding sorcerer, Sorceresses, lore is different depending on the story but it seems like witches and warlocks are born as where sorcerers and Sorceresses are made. Some stories say this title is above most names but thats to be debated. Lich- a magic user who became undead to further their goal achievement, a frowned upon practice even amongst dark magic users. Necromancer- a powerful dark magic user who can break the boundaries of life and death, a specific type of magic that isnt guaranteed to be known by powerful magic users. Its rare. Mage- a low level magic caster. Alchemist- a magic user who specializes in just alchemy. Enchanter- a male who only knows spells of enchantment. Enchantress- a lady who only knows spells of enchantment. "Whats the strongest?" You may ask, well, the answer can be different completely depending on story.

I made up my own backstory for Beetlejuice. I know, it's gonna feel dated after Beetlejuice 2 comes out. Keaton Michaels was a snake oil salesman from Texas in 1888. He often hitched a ride with a traveling circus, offering deals to nearby circus customers. The circus folk got tired of his schemes and abandoned him in the desert. He was suffering in the heat when a caravan approached him. They were a Native American tribe who offered him a sip of a special life enhancing water, enough hydration to last for weeks. They sent him on his way, but Keaton wasn't done with them. He caught up to them at night while they hit a rest spot, and sneakily snagged the magic water and placed a bottle of snake oil in its place. He was immediately caught and tied up. The chief put a curse on him, by tethering his soul to a star in the night sky. The chief explains the curse to him in vivid detail, the name Betelgeuse becoming his weakness and his power. They left him behind, where they rendered him unable to move unless someone says Betelgeuse three times. But it was too late, Keaton died of dehydration, and his body was found later and given a proper burial. Keaton's ghost would go on to work for Juno. Edit: The sequel film has released. My comment has aged poorly and is way off base from the official backstory.

@@kirkstinson7316 You're right, he did say that. But is it true, or is he lying? He also said he attended Julliard, and is a graduate of the Harvard business school. Those didn't exist until after the plague, and they've never graduated ghosts. But it's certainly possible he's seen The Exorcist 167 times, whether played on a living person's tv or perhaps the afterlife screens the film. I wrote my backstory based on the way Beetlejuice speaks, the bio-exorcist commercial he showed the Maitlands, and even his appearance to a certain degree. Remember, in this version of the afterlife, ghosts resemble what they looked like when they died. Beetlejuice looks like he suffered a slow decay of sorts, like hunger or dehydration.

Maybe Beetlejuice’s memory is selective and therefore similar to that of The Joker. The Joker once famously said "If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!" In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, he explains how he died to some of his shrunken head employees. What he said I’m not going to say here in case it may ruin the movie for some of you that haven’t seen it, but he didn’t kill himself in that story. So I think it’s extremely possible that Beetlejuice’s past is multiple choice like The Joker’s.

Beetlejuice does remind me of a drunk honestly. He looks like a guy who lost everything and went on a drinking binge, with some stubble and uncombed hair. I think he died during the great depression. Maybe he lost his family in the 1930s because he was unemployed and maybe his wife died from not enough food and he took it personally. That suit just looks like something from that era. The hanging explains the black marks under the eyes. Maybe a white can of paint fell on him after he died which explains the skin color and the once black suit now mostly white.
