Lucas does not at ALL lack a good advantage. He has So many followups off of nair, which is a combo tool, up air and even fair. Literally all his aerials can combo. He has one of the best combo games of the entire cast, much much better than ness's

He really does. I mean sure, Ness has less end-lag on his aerials and is just easier to play and over all has a good kit. Lucas’s air attacks combo better than Ness’s (besides Fair) Lucas’s kit is literally really freaking good, he just has A LOT of tools and it’s kind of hard to master all of them. Lucas has better kill power than Ness and better specials then him but as the game gets longer, he kind of loses his neutral and it’s harder to kill with him. Mystical Assassin He has SO many kill setups his neutral is his only issue, which in smash is one of the most important. If they gave lucas better out of shield options, like making nair quicker or junk like that he'd be much safer on shield which is what he needs. As for neutral, It's really not all that bad. Keylogram_ 314 I definitely CANNOT agree Lucas has so many more followups off all his aerials compared to ness. Like up air, which is more consistent since it doesn't rely on multiple hits, combos into itself and other moves more times than ness's up air. Lucas has less followups off of fair but it's definitely still possible to follow up with other moves like DJCZ, dash attack, or even ftilt if their % is low enough. Down air is unparalleled by ness's down Air when it comes to followups since dair loops are a thing without a doubt. Unlike ness, lucas actually has followups off of grounded spike bair, and even uses the sour spot for tech chases. Lastly, Nair. I promise you without any regret lucas's nair is FAR better than ness's as a combo tool. Practically all his aerials can followup as a true combo. You may argue that ness has magnet, which I can agree is a fantastic combo tool, but it's honestly no better than Lucas's DJCz and you might say that dthrow combos are a thing. And I'm here to argue that ness's down throw really has no followups after 30%, except maybe in the most situational of situations. Lucas Dthrow combos into fair as well At 0%, so at least he has that.

Furret The Byleth Main though I do have to agree that pk freeze is easy ish to avoid, it can be used as a way to make the opponent use their resources offstage. Lucas has a relative strong ledge trap game also so if they do I’m avoid it, it’s not the end of the world.

lucas has arguably the best mobility options if mastered. take a look at psi magnet and wavebouncing, his djc, and you can push yourself in the air with pk fire too if you struggle with landing. but overall ness is still better because you can't do multiple consecutive complicated inputs 100% of the time, especially online. lucas has more potential if you can consistently execute moves though

I am going to have to disagree. Comparing the movement options of the two, Lucas’ are far stronger because of how he is able to wavebounce and b reverse is down and side special. It makes coming down from platforms and mixing up your opponent a million times easier

i can make an arguement. as aplayer who uses lucas a lot. there are some stuff i have to say. lucas's attacks deal significantly moree damage then ness and has a feature with pk thunder. ness's pk fire is a multi hit but pk thunder isnt. lucas's pk fire isnt a multi hit but pk thunder is. so lucas can travel with pk thunder more and catch more opponents. if u also havent noticed ness's pk thunder when it hits someone it pushes them forward which gives them a better chance at recovering lucas pk thunder can go for multiple opponents who are trying to recover.

gotta be honest as a lucas main i would've appreciated this video a lot more from someone who had put more than maybe 2 hours of practice into the character the basic important things that you missed to capitalize on lucas optimal playstyle: advantage state is very oppressive but requires reading and capitalizing on enemies teching, which sour spot f-tilt, regular f-tilt, d-tilt (frame 3), jab (frame 2!!), pk fire all result in tech situations at low percents (lucas is phenomenal at punishing tech from anywhere on stage but doing so is not easy in the hands of a weaker player). playing around tech situations effectively lets lucas control the pace of the game and is good at putting your opponent into a panicked state and crumble under the pressure. counter to this is lucas very weak disadvantage. he has a very slow air dodge and almost all rush down characters can react to a lucas trying to air-dodge out of a juggle. landing as lucas is difficult without mixing up BUT once reset to neutral lucas can camp/zone and mix effectively again. lucas has a lot of pressure and kill confirms and amazing off-stage but is effectively bottle-necked by his disadvantage. he isn't too light and has a small hurtbox but he really suffers against rushdowns once they get in and keep him in a string of reading his landings. my best advice to playing lucas is to play the game around tech situations, ledge-trapping and edge-guarding, and mixing up between his zoning and camping and crossing up with nair or running up with jab or running up with shield into jab. i would probably put him below ness in his current meta, but i dont think this video really does him justice

Yeah PK Freeze is highly underrated with the amount of lower percentage kills I get when an opponent is off stage. Mixing that and PK Thunder is huge.

I‘m lucas main since he has been added. Before i played ness. Lucas moveset just fits my playstyle way better but i think if you compare the framedata ness should definitely have way more less punishable moves. But still i‘m quite happy with lucas. It would be cool if they buff lucas rocket that move is kind of ridiculous the way it is now. And the hitbox of magnet and the effectiveness of the windbox. Then all thats left is the missing up throw into whatever and lucas would do way better

SDI is literally the #1 counterplay to Ness' PK Fire. Followups are NOT guaranteed if you get hit by one. My friends have gotten so good at SDI, I can't even connect a dash attack sometimes. If you're complaining about PK Fire, just wiggle the stick away from Ness and your problems VANISH.

Lucas was my brawl main and I didn’t regret it as he was a very fun character. Ness, on the other hand, is annoying for me to play as and play against. The thing with Lucas is that he has a higher skill curve, but Ness can just fall back onto spamming PK fire and most players don’t know how to get around it and end up taking tons of damage. So, in my opinion, Lucas is way better.

You’re actually insane, while yes, ness can be really easy to pick up, mastering him is super hard, spamming fire isn’t a good strategy at mid level play or higher, don’t confuse annoying and easy to pick up with actually being good and mastering him

@@konajohnson6182 Well yeah, but your comment was just kinda ignorant. Lucas def has the higher skill curve, but Lucas actually needs skill? You don't get good with Ness unless you have skill. It's more accurate to say casuals don't really know how to get around Ness' PK Fire. I think the argument is there to make for Lucas being > Ness but your points didn't back that up. a Bestness or an Awestin or a Gackt don't use PK Fire the way you described

@Niccolo Vanible I’m not saying that Ness doesn’t take skill, I’m saying that Lucas has a higher skill curve than him but that’s just my opinion. Also, I can understand what you mean when you say casuals always complain about PK Fire, but have you seen a lot of Elite Smash Nesses? Almost all the ones I’ve gone up against always fall back to PK fire as an option in neutral and always goes for Pk Fire to Pk fire to grab. I’m not saying Ness isn’t easy to master, I’m just saying he’s easier to learn than a lot of other characters.

No. Follow up: seeing all of these Lucas players defending our boy I makes me very glad to be a Lucas main. Follow up follow up: In neutral d tilt is very strong because of the follow ups all the way from 0 to around 90 or 100. Also crossing up shield with bait and especially fair is great shield pressure. Also spaced fair is dummy safe. So is spaced f tilt which in some cases is pretty spammable. He has so many movement options with being able to to b reverse and wavebounce neutral b side b and down b. Djcz is probably his best tool and mastery of it is key to Lucas. His edge guard and even ledge trap game is very significant. It is very easy to cheese people with pk freeze while they are trying to edge guard offstage because they can bonk their heads on the stage and also when you are edgeguarding because pk freeze is cheeseee. Reverse edge guarding is used very often by me. Also djcz from ledge gives him a great mixup and can lead to bug damage and kill confirms. finally... BLUCAS. IS. INSANE. I’m

No mention of PK Freeze is such a dis-service to Lucas. While it was a joke in previous games, it got a major buff with simply knocking frozen characters straight to the blastzone.

Lucas need serious buffs to his combo game. He should be able to autocancell his aerials quickly by landing because every time I do a Nair or Dair on someone, I can't do anything after that because they can shield it easily. Also buff his Upair, it sucks

I think it might have been good to mention the difference in highly technical movement between ness and lucas. Lucas' djcz in combination with wavebounces and b reverses make his micro spacing insane, especially when you mix up between using psi magnet and pk freeze. This is incredibly important considering lucas is more zoning heavy than ness. It might also have been important to mention that lucas' pk freeze is a pretty useful edgeguarding option that can be used in conjunction with down smash at ledge or going offstage due to its low end lag.

lucas is horribly underrated, and ive made it a point to try bringing more popularity by maining him from chrom. Objectively most tier lists put chrom higher than lucas and for good reason, but Lucas has so many things that if used correctly, make him so much better than ness AND chrom as well as other characters.

Funny story, I picked up Lucas for a doubles tourney at our High School just because my best friend and doubles partner mained Ness. We became the “annoying earthbound team” and Pk fired our way through bracket until we were elimed at losers finals. To a team of two annoying links I may add
