Here's how to really use the training mode: 1. Set the speed to 1/4. 2. Zoom the camera in. 3. Do moves and admire the animations.

setting the CPU to run is really underrated. slowly inch towards them and try to corner them without letting them get past you. it helps you get better at your advantage state: reacting, trapping, and forcing out options

Sporadic in training mode, there’s an option called “cpu behavior.” change that to “run”

@everyonesaidmynamewasstupi3713 4 жыл бұрын
Sporadic if you inch towards the cpu and try not to let them pass you, it helps you get better. when they’re set to “run,” they will only do defensive options, so it’s good for practicing dealing with those defensive options in a real match. when you corner them they will eventually try to pass you.

I think it's not really a fantastic idea to say "if you’re not doing this, you’re probably training wrong” Although yes there are good and not so good methods, everything done in practice mode is for personal gain, so whatever you do to practice depends on you if you can improve. I mean shit there are over 70 characters that play differently, you can’t expect them all to train the exact same. Overall it’s just preference. It’s like saying “this controller is better than that” when it really isn’t the case, and rather just what that person likes to play with.

Honestly, it should’ve been named “the basics of training mode” because, though there are character specific combos and kill confirms that you can practice, the stuff he went over is more on the “if you’re new and/or you wanna get better with any character” side of the scale.

Online there are people that don't mash. It's better this way because you know what you can actually get away with against a good masher rather than you assuming you can get away with actions you can't. Like your pummeling for example.

Something I never see anyone say about short hopping is that if you press 2 jump buttons regardless which ones 2 at the same time is a guaranteed short hop even if you do hold the button input too long. This way you don’t have to use the buffered short hop aerial all the time. This way you can guarantee a short hop while only worrying about which landing aerial to throw at your opponent. 🤙🏻 Maybe it’s nothing new but it helped me and I didn’t know this until recently. Changed the game.
@Randomperson-zh4ek

Been knowing this since I started playing. I always explore and combine any controls to get the best for me, or just simply understand what each thing does and doesn't do. You could also press A (or any button that you set on Attack) and Jump at the same time and you do a short-hop attack

Random person yeah but pressing A+jump gives you a rising aerial, which doesn’t always land on a standing opponent and is almost always worse for combos. Short hopping and doing the aerial as you land is important to know if not simply more useful.
@REMiXPRiME
@REMiXPRiME 4 жыл бұрын
KevSB07 I’m aware my comment states that pressing 2 “JUMP” buttons at the same short hops for you. I’m not saying Jump+Attack. 🤨🤔 JUMP+JUMP guarantees a short hop with out worrying about quick tapping the jump button, also with out having to worry about a buffered short hop attack. (Which is Jump+Attack) This method allows to consistently short hop while also being able to throw out attacks at any time. (Landing/Falling attacks) I feel like I am repeating what I already said in other words but what ever helps, helps. I’m always down for that. 🤙🏻

Smash 4 and early Ultimate - Only to test certain things when they appear. Most of my matches are won by knowing what the opponent is going to do because the control over my characters was so bad. Since February - Been recording 30 minutes of training mode everyday, with 3 quickplay matches as a reward so it doesn't become a chore. Recording it all because I want to see my improvement overtime later on. Trying for at least 1 year. Short hops were a very large barrier into more competitive play so for a while I was just focusing on doing short hops and only fast falling when I full hopped so I would pay attention and not go into autopilot. After 20 sessions in, I felt a lot better and wasn't struggling as hard to short hop, so I decided to go to 20 minutes of short hops and 10 minutes learning about the characters I play. Currently Lucario, since I want him and Meta Knight to be my mains. Lucario just is just more demanding of doing stuff correctly if you want to get anywhere with him though, Meta Knight is so much easier to do well with since you'll just catch people off-guard with him constantly, making it harder to try to improve. Gotta say Shocks me just how much there is to learn about each character. I accidentally do more than 10 minutes of researching a lot because it's fun seeing all the new things you didn't before, which can change up the game a lot. I do look forward to turning down the amount time spent on short hops, but they are used in just about everything, so I want to make sure I can do them perfectly. Next on the list is recovery because I need to be prepared for when I get good enough to fight people that know how to edgeguard. Around 50 sessions in right now (supposed to be at day 71 today.... Life keeps interrupting!) and I'm short hopping very very consistently and it shocks me because I thought I'd never get there. After all I was all try hard in Smash 4 and there was like 3-5 times in Smash 4 where I'd be in training mode for at least an hour.. Then get frustrated when no progress was made. At the time I wasn't getting enough sleep for it to really stick anyways, but doing it inconsistently doesn't really help. Also there's a large portion of my life where I was used to just carrying teams and being at the top in a lot of shooters and I could generally pick up new shooters very fast, so when I started trying to improve at Smash, I just thought I hit my limit super early. Turns out it just takes a lot more time to get better at Smash, and there's hell of a lot more thinking and adapting involved, while requiring more types of muscle memory than just moving the mouse, timing a shot, with a few key presses for whatever gimmick that game has for abilities/grenades or whatever. Also the mental game effects your gameplay sooo much harder in Smash than in shooters. My mental game is super weak in smash right now. Used to kicking people's butts in For Glory in Smash 4, now I'm struggling to do anything in Ultimate now that I get paired up with people of similar skill level. You know how demoralizing it is to think that you're super awesome at something for so many years, only to realize you're just doing well because other people were just so much worse and you're still bad? I'm getting over that slowly, the training sessions are kinda relaxing and making me more calm in matches as time goes on. All I gotta say, it's been quite a journey. My short hops are almost consistent now and I'm still in disbelief at how much better I got with them. I definitely recommend spending time in training mode just perfecting your finger movements. Hard to do all that cool stuff in a match if you can't even control your character. Still so much more to improve on. B-reverses, zair drops, Parries, platform movement, etc.. and that's just general stuff that every character can do. Probably even more stuff I don't even know about, and then there's character specific stuff. Every little bit helps though!

@keeshuunedited5678
@keeshuunedited5678 4 жыл бұрын
@@nanceskiinanceskii4674 That's what I thought initially, after all, it's a quick easy way to do short hops. Then after a while I realized that while I never mess it up in training mode, in normal matches I mess up pressing both buttons at the same time from time to time. Almost never, but it was enough to make me go back to attempting to get better with short hops the normal way. If I'm gonna use a crutch, it has to work all the time (great for people that don't play much though). As time went on in these training sessions, short hops got easier overtime. Increasing my finger speed, which made other things much easier like combos, and a similar things that require fast finger speed like b-reversing. It's starting to get to a point where I can short hop almost as consistent as I want in matches. I've been thinking about changing my controls for a bit recently anyways, since I gotta be able to do c-bouncing and can't really do that with my current control setup. So I might try to have 2 jump buttons again. As for what my jump buttons were: It was R + ZR. Right thumb gets busy with c-stick aerials. Which Meta Knight absolutely needs for his up air combo, but it makes things significantly easier when spacing in the air with everyone. I had 2 shield buttons for L and LR because I wanted to be able to move the shield in place, including if I wanted to play Inkling who I was considering playing at the time. However since then I realized I'm probably not going to play Inkling and even if I did, I could probably use Y or A instead for a secondary shield button since Inkling refills ink when doing shield+B. Also I wonder from time to time if I should do claw grip to access more buttons at the same time (and because it looks cool). However, the main reason why I've been afraid of claw grip is I'm afraid I won't be able to press the buttons fast enough. Though it is easier to press the BAXY buttons than it is to press the shoulder buttons. I'm going to give claw grip a shot tonight because it'll let me be so much more flexible with where I want to place buttons if some new tech appears.

Pauletna is very bad for practicing punish dash game because of her wind on smash’s. Personally I’ve always used captain falcon for most of my cpus because of weight, range, height, and practice gimping due to his limited recovery options. Small chars I use Lucas/ness or lucario (mainly because of how his recover changes on damage and his projectile ability. Same for ness). Large chars bowser or Gannon for combo practices and the range on their moves are a good mix and match for dash dancing practice

Hey quick question. Can you do a controller input guide on how to RAR from initial dash? I can do 100s of regular RARs in a row but from initial dash I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Thank you
@bancholeo55
@bancholeo55 4 жыл бұрын
Essentially the controls are the same, the timing window is what changes. What can help with learning it quicker is that if you buffer your dash near the end of the setup attack (I'm a Roy main, so for us Jab is the setup for bair), all you have to do is tilt the control stick diagonally backward and jump to get more consistent rear-facing jumps. There are a few guides to IRARs( Instant Reverse Aerial Rush, which is a RAR from initial dash as you requested), so all you have to do is search for IRAR. I hope this helps! ✊🏾

what they said about short hops isn't true, you can just use the short cut, (pressing two jump buttons) there is never a need to manually input short hop, especially since they mentioned rar, you controller should be set up with mutiple jump buttons so you should be fine to do falling short hop airels and just short hops
