Instead or hoarding cars and nlowong their money. They invested in stocks, real-estate & Crypto.

Because inflation is so bad people are putting their money into physical items. They claim 8.5% but when energy prices double or triple, many food items up 25% or more, housing up 25-50% I think you could safely double whatever they claim and it would be much more accurate.

@shane2502 жыл бұрын
@@Nick-sx6jm No, not double... At least triple. Real estate gained 100%-200% in rural areas, gas 100%, lumbar 500%, renovations labor\other materials up to 300%, shipping containers 400%, etc. Food in the supermarket isn't a huge expense like others, but they are making it about 90% of the portion to calculate inflation.

I bought my 99 Cobra in the picture in early ‘19. I only drive it in the summer and therefore it doesn’t get daily-d and have a million miles. I would say, because of the recent interest in this body style and the used market jump, it almost doubled in value in the last two years. The problem being, if I sold it to buy something else, that vehicle also would be twice as expensive as it was previously. The exact same thing could be said about my buying of a home, 70k in equity in two years, but if I sell to upgrade I’m going to pay double on a larger house than two years ago. So it hasn’t become a great time to flip on any of these. It has only become a blessing to have made the right decision previous to the market explosion and to not have to get into ownership when it’s high. I couldn’t imagine having waited and trying to buy my first home now. I feel very sorry for those renting and trying to move up this year, and I mean that in the nicest way. It would be a very hard obstacle to overcome, knowing that less money bought much nicer things two or three years ago.

This is also what happens in every market not just cars. Old japanese made ibanez and vintage ampeg is going up in price and it used to be dirt cheap. 90s warwicks have doubled in price just in the last 5 years.

Dang. I guess i did get a deal. My '98 F-150 XLT only cost me $1,760, but he was only asking $1,600. At the time, it had about 30K miles, but was in amazing shape (minus the waterpump I replaced a yr later). I'm the 2nd owner as well. The previous owner had simply retired and no longer needed the truck. He cleaned it inside and out and had his mechanic son fix any issues. Of course, I gave it a deep look over with my mechanic as well and paid cash. Other then the waterpump, I've had no issues with it. But I do need to get new tires and replace the brakes soon. Hate me if you want, but I've replaced the radio with a modern screened system, replaced all of the lights with LEDs, attached a bed toolbox, and mounted a flag onto the box. I'm not a Ford guy, but I really have nothing to complain about with this model.

Bradley O, I had 4 Metro Convertibles, 1990-1993 models, in Northern California. Rust is not a problem here. I bought a $100 one that had a smashed in front end. I actually cut the front end off a stripped red Metro in a wrecking yard by using a hack saw blade wrapped in a rag. No power tools allowed so it took 4 hours. I welded it back on the wrecked white car. It can be seen in the attached video. I painted the car rattle can silver, added an AC unit. I built a fiberglass/epoxy removable hard top for it with 300ZX moon roof and Pontiac Sunbird rear heated glass. It looks pretty good. Then for grins I installed a little 3 cylinder Kubota 905 diesel engine in it. Going from 54 horsepower to 24 horses is not advisable but it would do 63 mph on the flat before the governor kicked in. The State refused to relicense it, so it sits behind the house ready for the Zombie apocalypse. I made the adapters to mate it to the 5 speed and used a Swift flywheel and clutch, didn't cut any wires or make permanent mods so the gas engine can be dropped in easily. I read that all Metro Convertibles were built at the Hiroshima plant. Payback, maybe. I like the BMW badge. kzbin.info/www/bejne/np-kgHlnl7SGeJo

Many of these were obviously bought by car-loving hipsters with too much money, who like the idea the car represents more than the actual car itself. The metro is the perfect example of that, it's "ironically cool". Drive it more than a few times on trips of any distance and its value decreases exponentially. The Volvo brick wagon is another example - I was a kid when these were new and had many friends with moms who had these or the 740 wagons. My lived experience tells me these were not awesome even when new, but nostalgia is a powerful drug. While the 1K-mile LC100 is an awesome truck, you can't use it for the same reasons as the metro. I would like to have that truck, but not at $136K. I actually daily drive a current-gen Lexus version of the LC200 platform (LX570) which is an awesome truck. As someone who spent time in the LC100 when it was new, I can tell you mine is better in every objective measure, but I do understand the collectability on this one. On a related note, BAT has single-handedly ruined the chance many of us have to buy oddball cars at fair prices. I used to buy cars on ebaymotors at least once a year for reasonable prices, but the BAT effect raised the price on all cool cars "from the modern era" to use Doug DeMuro's parlance. Cars and Bids is having the same effect on a smaller scale.
@_Zekken2 жыл бұрын
If you're buying something with 1k miles on it, you're more than likely not buying it to drive it honestly. Its going to sit in some car collection somewhere on display. Its a bit of a shame really, especially for cars that were designed to just be used and never intended to be showpieces. Though I guess on the flip side, being able to keep some like new examples of these working class heroes is cool in its own way.
