This video explores the abilities, powers, and origin of the Image Comics character "The Immortal." From his mysterious ancient past as several notable figures throughout history, becoming a superhero in 1930's America as a founding member of the original Guardians of the Globe, sometimes using his superpowers like vast superhuman strength and immortality to commit villainous acts due to bouts of insanity, being the most powerful human despite falling short to the power of a few alien beings like the Viltrumite Omni-Man, to ultimately allying with Emperor Nolan as well as his popular son Mark Grayson aka Invincible to battle multiple hostile forces; Let's take a look at this powerful Image Comics anti-hero and, literally, the strongest leader America has ever had. This includes a short, canon character biography and my own opinionated "Sage Rating," which I use to give ratings of comic book and science fiction characters.

As Sage pointed out, Immortal is very vulnerable to insanity. That probably be means, even though he's been officially a good guy, he's more morally grey than good considering he's probably done a lot of messef up stuff everytime he's gone insane or lost himself.

People had different values and morality back then. Slavery is f.ed up today but was a casual business back in the day.

C.C. is only truly controversial if you completely take him out of his historical context. As a reminder, while slavery was not too common during his era, it was regularly practiced by the Muslim world and to an extent, during the feudal era which went on to last for centuries up until the 20th century. He wasn’t particularly cruel for a conqueror or ruler as we have hundreds of very similar stories that just happened to be less famous. Of course, from our modern perspective, we can clearly call out this behavior as wrong and judge it accordingly but when people say that it was a different time, that isn’t just an expression. Columbus brutally ordered his troops to put down rebellions ( which is common place in many authoritarian societies ) , he traded with slaves ( also commonplace ), forced religious conversions ( shall I repeat myself? Extremely common place ) & finally, of course, introduced diseases ( but to be fair, that one really was an accident ). However, people mix all of these things together which they can but when we for instance claim that 90% of the inhabitants of the region he arrived in perished, we need to be careful what actually brought their end because we know how devastating the imported diseases turned out to be. Furthermore, while he was certainly a bad governor as he got detained and brought back to Spain ( only to be released later on ) its cartoonish to frame him as one of the most "horrifically cruel slave owners" when the main argument for that categorization in this context really is just that you happened to have heard his name. Yes, it was a horrific time for many people and he was a very willing participant. Does that make him particularly terrible in the grand scheme of things? Not really. One read through of one of the many only somewhat documented wars of the time ( not even including all of history ) will provide one with more terrible details. Just as a reminder, putting villages to the sword and slaughtering / enslaving entire regions was perfectly reasonable for many generals and other conquering people throughout history. What makes Columbus unique is really only that he was the first European in the new world to practice this and that people have documented him to such an extent. He wasn’t a good man by our standards. Or even just a morally average one. But while he was undoubtedly brutal in his pursuits, he is only one of many names spanning all continents who used his methods, many far more often and with significantly greater cruelty and savagery. Like, remember what Caesar did after conquering Gaul? Fun time…

The reason I described him as being particularly brutal among slave owners is based on an anecdote I read from one of his fellow captains, who claimed Columbus would often pull far ahead of the fleet and the only way the other captains could locate him was from the trails of floating slave corpses left in the water behind his ship, often women he had r_ped and killed out of boredom. It was remarked that even his fellow captains were perturbed by his sadism. But unfortunately you're correct in the assessment that this type of behavior was fairly commonplace in that era.

I always felt like The Immortal’s early demonstration of power was misleading in comparison to how strong he turned out to be for the rest of the story. I mean, he freaking threw a man into space. That’s a lot more impressive than one might think. The exact science would be boring to go into, but it would at least put The Immortal’s physical strength in the middle pool of the Viltrumite level.

Honestly immortal strikes me as a god like being like Thor. But having more of personality related to Wolverine with the being basically immortal and living through history from the start. That's the thing to me Image Comics with their storylines always that "weird" turns and twist, (again to me) not in a good way sometimes. With some of their characters they appear to be trying to avoid or not include 'something" that for lack of better words flips it for me; what do you think my brother?
