Ian, these 'cheap dreadful cars' are absolutely wonderful. Pretty much everyone does videos on Ferrari Aventadores and Lamboghini Californias, and that's great, if you like that sort of thing. Thing is, nobody was ever taken to school, went on holiday, learnt to drive or took out girlfriends in a Ferrari or Lamboghini. The cars you film are ones we can all relate to, and some of them, however humble, are now so much more rare than a Ferrari will ever be. The recent Mazda is a case in point. I love the daily drive Rover 45, because I used to work at a Rover Dealership when these were new, and it's just nice to see these cars still on the road and being enjoyed. I love all the little surprize and delight features like the Mazda indicator chime, the little pixie in the Nissan Bluebird's dashboard, and the Ratchet Strap accelerator in the 2CV to get you home. What you have here is truly unique, and it's brilliant. Posh cars would only spoil it, let all the other sheep carry on doing those. I prefer the straight talking, down to earth, authentic, and humble 'Man and his cars' persona that you do so very well. Don't ever change it, it's perfect just the way it is. Thank you for doing it, we all love it.

A superb insight into your background Ian. The 'mark of the man' is someone who can chat about himself yet not simply appear to be a narcissist. You appear to be just a genuinely decent, down to Earth bloke; using his own time to produce these broadcasts purely as a labour of love - rather than for financial gain. Having watched them all (I think?) over the past few weeks, you've undoubtedly provided genuine interest for many; as well as no doubt putting a smile on many of our faces - not an easy achievement in the madness of this World today. Suffice to say if you ever get stuck in Nuneaton, the kettle will be on (and the Missis still buys loose-leaf tea for the pot)! ;-) Best regards mate and thank you very much.

Great vid. I live in Australia . Im like you in as much as I am absolutely infatuated with older cars. Im a mechanic by trade but at 60 years old with a shot back I no longer hang off spanners. As for these new fangled cars they just dont get my juices going. Computers and sensors and all that garbage. I could count the amount of novels and books I have read over the last 20 years on the fingers of one hand and still have one left to scratch my chocolate starfish with - ask me how many workshop manuals I have read and I could not put an accurate number on it ! I stumbled across this channel a few months back and love the old road tests, love the old oddbod cars. I really hope to see more old roa tests. Hillman Hunters, old cortinas, Zephyrs and prefects, that sort of thing. Keep up the great work !

AHH Mr Hubnut Although I'm around ten years older than yourself we ran a similar road for a time. I too as a youngster got into cars, with an absent father and a mother who had to work for a living my summer holidays were spent at either my grandparents or with my uncle who owned a scrapyard. The old cars were my playground, I played "armies" in a wrecked jeep or raced at Le Mans in a old MGA shell with a bit of imagination. Then I actually DID become an engineer so that is where our similar paths separate although I also took my wife's name when we married due to me not wishing to be attached to that aforementioned absent father. You make the information on older (British) cars interesting and with a touch of comic. It brings back memories of the British Leyland cars we had in the late 80's. My wife's favourite was the Rover 2000 TC. We have had most of them.....breaking down miles from home but always had a driver who would pull over and give assistance. Great when we could not afford to join AA or RAC.

Well Ian thanks for giving us some background to your interest in cars and your life beyond Hubnut. I can't think of abetter word, I'm not a wordsmith, but the "ordinariness" which appeals. You love vehicles, your enthusiasm is clear, yet there's no pretension. We don't have you testing a new Range Rover courtesy of JLR, or taking a Ferrari to Monaco. Instead we get the unusual, yet achievable, cars we could own too. Tests of vehicles we remember, I am much older than you, I passed my test in 1977. So don't fret you have I am sure many more motoring years to come. You inspire, I decided to get a classic (P4 100 Rover almost as old as me), I do have some aptitudes mechanically but I am no mechanic. I thought if he can why not give it a go. So thanks for sharing some background, for the entertainment and inspiration, along with memories and some fun. Cheers keep up the good work.

Hi Ian. Most of us realize that you are anything but a "work shy bum", and anyone who thinks otherwise is an obvious fool and should be ignored at all costs! I haven't been following you for long, but since i subscribed to your channel, i think i have now watched just about everything you've filmed, and i must say I've enjoyed them. Nice to know a bit more about you though. Especially as you do what i would love to do for a living, but just don't know where to start. I too was an early car enthusiast, (actually anything mehanical), and received car books from at least one person on just about every birthday and christmas from the age of around 8 or 9. Things really got going though, when walking thorough my village one day saw a skip with around two dozen issues of "Car" magazine, and, (much to my mother's dislike), proceded to drag them all home. They all got read front to back on many occation over the years. I don't know where this enthusiasm spawns from though, as none of my other family members showed any interest in cars, it just sort of happened. Always wanted to be a mechanic, (again, much to my mothers dislike), but after leaving school and getting an apprenticeship it all went horribly wrong. This is another story. Soon after that left the motor trade, but always wanted to do something like you do. I mean what is not to like? Travelling around the world driving other people's cars, then writing about it. This especially appeals as i have now realized that without a lottery win i am unlikely going to get to drive many cars that i wish i could own. Maybe one day. Sorry for waffling on again. Keep up the good work.

Great vid Ian, nice to hear about who you are and about your background, I too was born in 1978 in February, I also share a keen interest in cars of the 60’s-to the 1990’s, I feel modern cars just lack a bit of personality, modern cars to me are more like Megatron from Trans Formers, whereas Classic cars are more like Paddington Bear or Postman Pat, more friendlier. My favourite classic car has always been and always will be the original Austin Mini, always wanted one, but I can’t afford to buy or restore one. I think people like your vids because they are of cars that “The average Joe” drives, and that people may fondly remember. So Congratulations on your 300 or so vids!

By the way, why does it matter whether you work or not? And how do you define work? Some people think unless you're sweating and slaving down a coalmine or breaking your back on a building site you're not performing "real" work! Everyone would like to have meaningful/fulfilling employment. You were smart and resourceful enough to find a way to get paid for pursuing your hobby. I call that working "smart" not "hard" although I am sure editing is no cake-walk and the rate you turn your videos out at tells me you are busy on or off camera. The billions of people on the planet working at jobs they absolutely hate for pennies per hour, no virtue there, me thinks. What about a partnership with Guy Martin and do a classic car/bike/truck special? And we love the "common-or-garden-classics" you road-test. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who won't let them out of the shed to see daylight and arrogant types who don't want anyone else to enjoy them. Classics of all types are becoming like bloody paintings: "You can look, but you can't touch and no flash photography. And make an appointment...all right? Another thing, you don't like anything like 40. 12, more like - with facial hair!

My biggest regret is the demise of the British car, and sadly truck manufacturing. Your channel is a breath of fresh air and oh so entertaining to watch, and I think you are a natural. Also your crazy European trips are awesome, so please keep up the good work Sir 👍 Tam.

Nice to hear, cheers for this. Subscribed so it all pops up. I like your down to earth reviews and spread of cars old and new. Keep up the good work.

Thank you. Your channel is brilliant. I'm a wheelchair-user and have never driven but as a boy - I'm now 55 - I collected car brochures, DAF, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Toyota, etc. Your enthusiasm and creative passion are energising, fascinating and entertaining. All best wishes to you!

Hello Ian, thank you for sharing with us how you became a car enthusiast. And I love the way you make the videos and test cars.

Don't worry about people saying nasty things, your in the public eye now so to speak, and everybody receives nasty comments, we are living in a very troubled world filled with equaly troubled people! People call me a work shy bum, but I have more skills than they ever will, But I have been for many years struggling with post traumatic stress disorder and autism, and these issues only where diagnosed when I had a nervouse breakdown, I've been told by doctors not to work for the duration as it could lead to further problems with my mental health, ( another breakdown) These conditions are not my fault and none of anybody's business, So don't justifie yourself mate, you shouldn't have to and neither should I, u carry on as you are!

Thanks for your video and the time it takes to create them. your drive and enthusiasm is fantastic, Have no fear about the style of your videos, they have an immediacy that is as effective as any of the fancy drone and drive by shots of the multi camera highly produced channels. Doing both the day job and Hub Nut is an amazing feat of endurance. I really enjoy your videos, and rarely comment, but I feel you have a gift for communication and I hope to see more videos in the future. Thanks again.

Many thanks Ian for sharing your walk of life. I love your mix of vehicle tests, personal insights, road trips, latest acquisitions and projects in the garage. You’ve even inspired me to start tinkering around with my own vehicles. Hadn’t subscribed to any channel on KZbin before HubNut - HubNut is the first, and remains my favourite. Once again Ian a huge thanks for the work you are doing, and please keep those vids coming😀😀😀😀😀

Ignore the ignorant dickheads who are quick to judge and not quick to learn about you. I thoroughly enjoy your videos, your knowledge, and they way you get stuck in and do things, willingly . Top KZbin channel, which has supplied me with many hours of entertainment. You don't owe anyone any explanations about your busy life. Keep it up, and thanks for your time and intelligence!
