Paul of Fab Rats: Internet Stardom and Niche Audience
• Fab Rats, a KZbin channel that started in 2019, has gained immense popularity for its entertaining and educational content on car building and restorations. Paul Cox, the lead figure on the channel, has captivated audiences with his hands-on and hard-working attitude. He is known for his genuine approach, stepping away from scripted content to convey a homely and relatable vibe.
Paul’s Background: Self-Taught and Inspired
• Surprisingly, Paul doesn't have formal certifications in his trade. Inspired by his father Sherman, Paul was self-taught, starting to weld at the age of nine. His extensive knowledge stems from hands-on experience, including working at a machine shop from the age of 15.
The Genesis of Fab Rats
• The channel's inception is linked to Paul’s passion for demolition derby and his friendship with Matt Wetzel of "Matt's Off Road Recovery." It was Matt who suggested Paul and his wife Michelle start their own channel, a decision they initially hesitated to make but later embraced, leading to the success of Fab Rats.
Paul’s Transition from Construction to KZbin
• Before Fab Rats, Paul worked for over 20 years in construction, juggling his job with the early days of the channel. The decision to leave his stable job for KZbin was driven by his desire to spend more time with his family and focus on his passion, a risky move that ultimately paid off.
Family, Friends, and the Essence of Fab Rats
• Fab Rats is more than just a KZbin channel; it's a glimpse into Paul's life, involving his family and friends. His wife Michelle handles production, and his children, brother, and late father Sherman have all been part of the show. The channel embodies not just a passion for automotive projects but also the importance of learning and spending time with loved ones.

Leaving a stable job in construction to pursue his passion on KZbin was a bold move, but it clearly paid off for Paul and his family. It's a reminder that following your dreams is worth the risk.

Fab Rats is one of my favorite. So is Matt's Off Road Recovery and Robby Layton. They have priority when I watch KZbin. Love seeing an old car or truck given a new life as a power workhorse like Matt's worlds largest off road wrecker, Paul's Yota And Ed's Golden Nugget. They continue to make great content.

Matt's suggestion for Paul and his wife Michelle to begin their own channel turned out to be a great idea. Although they were initially unsure, they eventually embraced it, and this decision contributed to the success of Fab Rats. I've also been a fan of Paul Cox's car collection. It's an enjoyable show, and I hope there will be more episodes in the future.
