he's my parents and my favourite Korean singer for english covers! you should watch his performances on Begin Again, they're amazing He got 1st place in an audition show program and actually did really really well, he was really popular and really was the OST king. However, in that variety show, he got to know a different singer who won 2nd place(?) and they were publically friends. In 2020(?), that friend got into a huge scandal and people went on a witchhunt for Roy Kim as well because he was the most popular "friend" of his. However, that friend had previously spoken on shows that it "wasn't fun" hanging out with Roy because all he wanted to do was stay in and have deep conversations as opposed to, for example, going to clubs. It turned out that it wasn't Roy in a specific group chat that involved the scandals but Roy was investigated by the police for a different chat. He didn't defend himself, just showed up in an incredibly thinned state, got investigated, and was released. It was later revealed by a reporter that he had gotten an investigation for "sharing p**nography" but this had been because someone else in the group chat had uploaded a photo of a Korean celebrity that had been manipulated. Roy found a blog post explaining that it was a manipulated photo and shared this in the chat and this was what was flagged as "sharing p**rnography". He never defended himself because if it was revealed, he was worried that people would find out who the celebrity was and their image would be tarnished. He then released the song, "Linger On", which he sings in the video and which really defends how he must have felt, then went into the Navy for conscription despite the fact that he was exempted for being an American citizen. He came back and thanks to that reporter, he has sang an OST and been on a few shows, but I don't think his image fully came back - unfortunately, people don't care for the truth. I still see posts on social media accusing Roy Kim of doing things that he hasn't done, comparing him to criminals... I was quite surprised that he even came back to the industry given the witch hunt that he had to go through....... Please give him lots of love! He's super talented, writes all of his songs, is an amazing singer, great person that has gone through a lot.

I remember reading rumour about his dad disowned him because he was presumed as related to JJY's scandal... it was frustrating since he didn't say anything while there were a lot of variety shows that JJY did with him showing that they were indeed close, leading people to assume that he was JJY's accomplice...

I got to know him a few years ago, because of Jungkook's cover of his song "only then" (which I highly recommend Psy & Bella to check out!), I totally loved Roy back then, but it's just now that I'm deeply involved with his music and couldn't find a good explanation of what happened.
