You have to keep in mind this update was made by two people, one valve employee and one contractor, working on it when time allowed. This wasn't some choice by the valve higher-ups. This was two people trying to show the higher ups tha passion and willingness of the community.

Yeah, higher ups need to see that: 1. People already love this, any support is massively better than nothing. 2. More support is very very welcome. Valve gets easy returns and good will from each investment. This game does crazy numbers for good reason, and even though Valve is largely just a storefront money factory (with VR and steamdeck side projects), there's still room for them to stuff a side room with a TF2 support team.

One thing I will note about the Australium plot point, while most australium’s were made buff and macho and stuff, santon wasn’t. When the australium runs out it shows they revert to normal… while saxton remains himself

its not, the hale model has been in the game files since jungle inferno, though significantly smaller (around the size of heavy) in vsh hes scaled up for some reason, making him stupidly tall, like 7 feet, but he goes back to normal size once ragdolled

The Hale model was actually leaked a long time ago and then fixed and uploaded to workshop. Seems like Valve didn't care too much about someone uploading their leaked stuff, thankfully.

My first exposure to Saxton Hale ever was in Dasboschitt's Computer Quest, where he proves himself to be as equally strong as Gandalf the Grey and the Gandalf the White and Monty Python & the Holy Grail's Black Knight and Benito Mussolini and the Blue Meanie, Cowboy Curtis and Jambi the Genie, Robocop, the Terminator, Captain Kirk and Darth Vader, Lo Pan, Superman, every single Power Ranger, Bill S. Preston and Theodore Logan, Spock, the Rock, Doc Ock and Hulk Hogan by throwing Chuck Norris into the Sun. It's impressive just about everything about him I've seen since has been as equally awesome.

You missed out that Saxton Hale was heavily featured in the Mann v Machine update material (see also: "Attention, Cowards!" from October 2012, when they introduced the abandoning a game matchmaking consequences for example, or the fact that he's the banner image for the MvM FAQ page, and _his face is on the Tour of Duty tickets in the game)._ So you know, he was all through the 2012 TF2 material.

Something with the impressions thing... Valve's done that in the past. When the Player Destruction mode was added, the "in the beam" line was done by the original creator of the map and is still in to this day. Also, as others have said, this update was put out by like two people, only one of which worked at Valve itself. We _could_ get the voice actors back in but I wouldn't bet on it. Frankly, I'm just glad this update exists-

10:00 VSH is back and it works surprisingly well. I noticed only 1 bug after an hour of playing and that is that whenever a new player joins they're automatically assigned to the BLU team, but this doesn't really do anything since the player gets switched to the red team when a new round begins.

It's due to the game forcing new players to be balanced to the BLU team, but the Vscript puts them on RED shortly after.

VS Saxton Hale is an old game mode. It pairs the players up against Saxton Hale, an AI. It happened before MvM. I believe it was a mod for TF2, but it's been so long that I have my doubts. Saxton grew up near the Australium deposits. Unlike the locals that lived above the deposits, he lived close enough and grew up there to be affected by the mineral, after spending years there it had a permanent affect on him. The locals that lived above it were drastically changed but once the mined were depleted they reverted back to their old selves. Saxton however had grown up near it and it permanently changed him. He's smarter, stronger and faster than other people, even those who lived above the mines. The mineral itself has body altering properties. If newborns were to receive exposure to the raw or pure mineral for the same lifetime duration they would become like Saxton. The only difference is you would have the recipe for super soldiers or even get close to 40k Space Marines.

I really want a skeleton cowboy with a fast and a strong melee and it can get a rope that can trap mercenaries to help himself and others and a bandit mask you can put on to rush bases. Also a double sheriff revolver, and it can also extend how much items you get and it will have a lot of high level guns (which is kinda rare). With this class releasing they could add mercenary coins with a custom options to buy coins - it will show the price. You will get 150/500 every kill, 500 MC mercenary coins) is random.

I find it highly amusing, that in the wake of overwatch 2's complete and utter failure to give players the new game mode they were promise, valve straight up gave tf2 players a new asymmetrical gamemode, yeah its community made and has existed for over a decade in community servers but valve was under no pressure or even incentive to add this longtime fan favorite game offically, and yet they did it anyway. Granted the gameomde did not work for over a week but at least it is working now. Blizzard take notes that is how you please a playerbase.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this update and the VSH maps added. I've played VSH and Freak Fortress on community servers on and off since 2014 and I never expected it to come into the mainstream. However, I think this is the jolt of life this game needs right now. Like MVM, its something drastically different from the typical TF experience. However, you know what would be absolutely rad? Getting the final TF comic issue, and it ties in this game mode. Saxton Hale turns on the mercs who just defeated the TFC mercs and it would be this final epic battle to save the Badlands. I'd also like some weapon balances too but right now I'm happy the game is still fun and the community so dedicated.

I started in 2020 so this is my first "big" update, its good to see the community being positive about anything at all. Also, maybe the update its not that good, but things are about to become a lot more interesting in this game, and thats what matters, bcs it was becoming pretty stale

Even though there's pretty much only one dev (Eric Smith) involved with Tf2 it seems, adding Hale was a blessed surprise. Nothing is as delicious as hope for such a beloved game. Especially for fan favorite game mode being added I have nostalgia for. May this be a new beginning 🙏

Mannco HQ was made for a very different Hale. Part of the reason why they managed to get away with the infinite superjumping is because the new maps are too small for Hale to just hide away.

Hello, just wanted to point out that when Maxxy made that new model, it was pretty much MADE for VSH. I worked with him on some technical stuff when it came to getting the model to work as a playermodel back then (like giving feedback and support on some odd quirks the game has with certain animations and how they are used), and once it was made we tested over Glubbable's servers and even had a little event going on for everyone to see the new model before it got fully pushed for public VSH servers.

How to balance hale in regular gamemode: + He has 500 hp +slightly slower then base scout + can jump boost about the same as jetpack pyro (has 20 second cool down) + has a chargeable punch (275 dmg) Base punch is 100 dmg Now the negatives: Can't be crit or minicrit boosted even with fan oh war Cannot be healed by any outside sources - backstabs still instant k.o him - killing him with head count weapon will give the player 3 heads - his charging punch has a 15 sec cool down and is highly telegraphed (easy to dodge) - he will be loud, so sneaking up with him will be VERY HARD - no random critical hits Done. Now he is playable in any game mode. Enough weaknesses and strengthes to make him still Saxton but balanced

This version of Saxton gets hard countered by airblast, uber, Natascha heavies, spies, machina snipers (513 dmg at full charged headshot, baby face scouts, wrangled sentries and sticky traps. It would take 2 two players to truly overwhelm him or 1 keeping distance away from him. Brass beast heavy would beat him at a full encounter (bb melts 500hp like nothing and even Saxton's charged punch would not kill him)

while it's nice to have a tf2 update considering it's all community-made (which is also why the VSH mode is broken because they never intended for Vscript to work with casual servers) and it came out with so many bugs even in the normal maps it's hard not to remain cynical about tf2's future
