It’s correct that as long as the venue or production company has the blanket licenses from the PROs involved, you’re free to perform whatever you like live. But that changes when the music is heard on the broadcast. Any songwriter could get an injunction against the RNC to stop using their music and possibly even sue for damages. In fact, there’s a pretty long list of people who have gone to court over Trump’s use of their music. And when a songwriter gets an injunction, it doesn’t just apply to the original recordings, but to any use of the song.

That's true but the streaming channels/networks etc broadcasting the music are likely covered by fair use because they are reporting it as a news event rather than entertainment
