Hajime, I would also like to say who is my least favorite because why not, I personally didn't like Shuishi as a protagonist, but did like him as a character, I didn't like him as a protagonist because : 1-HE DOESN'T SAY 'NO THAT'S WRONG', WTF SHUISHI, YOU CALL YOURSELF A PROTAGONIST?!?!? 2-my man is supposed to be the ultimate detective.... Yet it takes him around the same time it takes 2 ordinary high school students with no remarkable talent to solve a murder case...

Hajime is without a doubt because of how much he feels like a real person. Out of the entire cast from all 4 games,he's easily the most realistic with how he interacted around others and went on pure logic and facts for most situations. Very rarely did he ever let his emotions get the better of him,with the only example I can really think of is half way through the final trial. He's just all round a superb character and one of,if not the best,protagonist I've ever seen in a game

I think it is easily Makoto. He literally got nerves of steel. What he goes through from beginning to end of the entire franchise is just a good story. Makoto doesn't get enough credit for how much he changes. He started as a shy and intimidated student who felt he was out of place and becomes the hero in the end that dragged everyone out of despair. I love that. Everyone would have died without Makoto being there. Kyoko could not get through that game and get the secrets of the school without him and he brought together a cast that distrusted each other (unlike the other two casts that got along for the most part outside the troublemakers) to get everyone to become friends who trusted each other to protect each other to beat back Junko. Makoto is awesome.

I adore all 4 protagonists because they were all great but Hajime my man is just the shining star among the protags. His writing feels so much more realistic and fleshed out and his character comes out so much even though protagonists are supposed to be pretty basic to let the player attach themselves to the main character. I love this sassy, lovable, sharp tongued dork dearly.

I'd personally pick Shuichi. I think he has the best growth of any character in the series. Although, if she had lived longer, I'd definitely pick Kaede, just because of her large heart.

Komaru isn't a protagonist in any of the mainline games, so she wasn't featured in this video. However, she is still absolutely an amazing protagonist!

In my personal opinion, I feel Makoto is the best protagonist because of his naive and bland personality. For the same reason that most protagonists are male, the viewer must place themselves into Makoto and be him. To do that you have to give a pretty dull character. There would be no second game without him meaning that there probably wouldn't be the third one either. I feel safe to say that every plot was made from Naegi. Not only that he is one of the only people who have survived multiple killing games. Not only that stay an actual execution. He has everything that you need in the standard protagonist. Hope, plot armor, unfailing trust, and a few waifs make Naegi as a whole. While the others might be more interesting, I feel Makoto is supposed to be us. I can relate to Makoto in a way rather painless and also learn from his mistakes. In characters like Hajime, I cannot understand his thinking of a killing game. Shuichi is obviously used to dead bodies (which I can slightly relate to) but he would go on differently than the rest because he understands. Kaede died in the first chapter so can't really understand her point of view in the killing game. I can also relate to his antics of confusion which is my entire personality. I feel he is the most realistic character in danganronpa. Makoto rises above the normal expectation and makes others climb with him. While protags all do that, no one can come close to Makoto in hope. (well maybe Hajime..) Actually, I feel Hajime and Makoto are around the same level. Just i can't really relate to Hajime in standard view. I can however relate to the first protag, Makoto Naegi. I don't know if you will see this but I would love your thoughts!

I absolutley agree with you! This is pretty much my exact reasoning as to why Makoto is my favourite protagonist. His bland personality with lack of characteristics leaves lots of room for the player to almost immerse their own personality into Makoto if that makes sense. Although I personally love Makoto purley for the reason of his bland personality, his goofy and cute personality from Trigger Happy Havoc really left a big impression on me. It was really nice to see how much his personality evovled thorughout the entire series also, going from uwu boy into The Ultiamte Hope, the Future Foundation, etc... Hajimie is definitley quite a lot harder for players to relate to, his personality is made very apparent right as he is introduced in Danganronpa 2, and even in the animes. He definitley evolves and undergoes so so much character developtment, but so does Makoto as well. I agree, they absolutley are around the same level. Shuichi is quite similar to Makoto in a sense, but definelty not as relatable of a character due to his talent and his very strong mindset towards ending Danganronpa, and so fourth. I also thought it was Hajime. I also think he's the most "everyman" of the protagonists with no exceptional ability. His backstory, essentially, being a nobody who had no talent or hope of joining Hope's Academy as one of the elites is very relateable.

Idk about best protagonist, but i cry every single time i think about Hajime after watching the despair arc in the anime and the ending of the second game like HOLY SHIT he's 100% the most tragic character in my eyes That makes me inclined to pick him as the best protagonist since he seems so real, even though Makoto is my favorite character. Makoto is also real though, especially since he gives into despair in the future arc in the anime and would've killed himself if he wasn't saved (Can you tell i love the Danganronpa 3 anime yet 💀)

I think there's fair reasoning for liking any of the protags above the others, it really comes down to personal preference. Personally I'm not a fan of blind hope, so characters like Kaede and Makoto are not my forte. I like Hajime, but my issue with the "He's the most normal person therefor he is the best" is that he is like that because he *is* a normal person, and it's meant to contrast with the rest of the cast in SDR2 which is way out there. I like his arc, but ultimately prefer Shuichi's. Shuichi also just feels like the most justified to be a protagonist and be the one answering all the questions as he is a detective, so it's not weird when everyone goes to him for answers when there are several smarter individuals in the other games, even going into late-game(tell them Naegi). SDR2 does a better job than THH at that, but it feels so immersion breaking when they turn to the normal dude and tell him to answer the question like their lives aren't on the line. Kaede is, by no stretch, not a bad protagonist either, but the reason for why she has so much character for a protagonist is because she gets killed off in the first chapter, if she weren't, they never would've delved into her character or made her so headstrong and opinionated so early on if she were meant to develop across the game, she is also like, the definition of hubris as her blind hope and ambition cause her to start the killing game when she was actively trying to stop it. Makoto is Makoto, there's not much to say about him as he doesn't have that much character(his own words, actually stated within the first 50 words he says in the first game), and it's cool that he has a place throughout the rest of the series, but i never understood the Makoto hype as if he was Goku or something. Again, it's really just up to preference, there is no definitive "best" protagonist in danganronpa(except maybe when you play as Nagito for like 30 minutes in SDR2) Nevertheless, I'd rank them like this Shuichi>Hajime>Kaede>Makoto

I personally prefer Kaede, because her ability to lead and optimistic nature are plus points that I rarely find with other characters in the game. Sometimes a character can be very optimistic but on the other hand is not really able to take on a leadership role, and vice versa. But yeah, I still agree about Hajime being the best protagonist..

for me it's either hajime or shuichi. hajime because he's most realistic one and shuichi because he's very interesting character on his own. i like kaede and really don't like makoto (sorry, but it is how it is)

How can you not talk about the fact that Kaede KILLED someone, participating in the killing game like Monokuba wanted. Making her the worst protagonist, all the others refused to play and wanted to overthrow the game rules, not kill the mastermind. Makoto even after the first game tried to save Junko, Hajime sacrificed his sould to save his friends and Shuichi grew to instill hope in everyone, only to throw hope away to stop the game.

Well technichally she didnt kill Rantaro because (SPOILERS) Tsumugi killed him but she did mean to kill the mastermind so everyone could escape so she had good intentions. i also feel shes a bit underrated. but i still think Makoto,Hajime,and Shuichi are good protaganists. She was very cheerful and had alot of personality compared to Makoto,and i think she had alot of potential since she died in the VERY first chapter. I dont think shes the worst. but i guess its your opinion.
